Halloween Wooden Cat Box

Hey everyone! Fall is in full swing and Halloween is almost here.

And what is something that goes with Halloween besides witches hats, pumpkins, and ghosts? Well…black cats of course!

Do you remember when mom and I went to Home Depot a few weeks ago and made wooden boxes? She shaped hers like a pumpkin and I shaped mine like a cat. Guess what? I finished mine! Here it is!

So I painted the cat black and painted the front of the box in chalkboard. I added the word BOO for the season of Halloween.

I also added flowers and a red bow to make the cat more festive and more like a cat.

I love how this turned out! It turned out cute and I am able to change it for the different seasons. I can’t wait to see what I make the next time I do a Home Depot project…which is tonight!

Remember these frames I showed you a looong time ago?

I finally got the project done! Aren’t they so cute!

Yes, I actually got each of the animals to put their paw in the ink and then onto the paper!

Even the cats!

Last week, my friend Pam, from Valley Animal Haven, came to visit my kids at the preschool. She brought Phoebe and Mandy in to meet the kids.The kids donated a whole stack of pet food, cat litter and other items for the shelter. It was a great community service project for them.

I’ve also been working on cleaning out some of my stuff. I’ve gone through my clothes and now have done my jewelry. Here is one of my jewelry boxes, but I have a few different place I keep my jewelry.

Here is the new look, for some of my jewelry. Haley used to have this mirror in her room, but took it down. In my house, things like this find a new life in another part of the house!

Halloween End Table

Ooga Booga! Did I scare you?? Just Kidding 🙂

So my roommates and I don’t do a whole lot for Halloween, but I decided to do a bit of decorating for fun. So, with the help of my lovely mother, I bought some items from the Dollar Tree to decorate an end table.

So here it is!

The decor originally started the green cat that my roommate Hannah so lovingly named Randall and the pink BOO sign. So I tried to think of of other things that went with pink and green. Thankfully, black is a main color of Halloween, so it all worked out.

So I bought another cat like Randall who is much smaller and black; her name is Regina. I also bought a small crow to add a “real” Halloween touch, I thought it looked good on sitting on top of the BOO.

I also had a spiderweb that originally had 3 glow in the dark spiders. By the way, those spiders are now hidden around my apartment for my roommates to find. But, I cut those spiders off and added a larger spider to make it a bit more realistic. I also wrapped a black tinsel with silver skulls added in around the table. Aren’t those skulls scary?

Finally, I added a green and black sign with some delicious meals for Halloween. Don’t they sound completely edible? I also added a black candle holder with a white candle. It’s a nice juxtapose to the Halloween theme to have a candle.

So, that’s my decorations. I love how it turned out and love how it isn’t too much. It is nice to be a little bit festive with my roommates and not go too over the top. Now, I hope my roommates don’t scream too loudly when they find the spiders!

Thrift Store Metal Medallion Makeover

We made it to November! Already! The air is finally cooler around here, especially in the mornings and evenings and we have finally been getting some rain. It has been so wonderful! Fall also brings back memories of the sound of the chainsaw as my dad trimmed the trees in the yard. My sister and I would build a fort with the cut branches. Of course, it only lasted a day. My dad would cut the branches up and cart them off!

I found these metal medallions a few weeks ago at the local Goodwill and snatched them up. I knew (for once) just what I wanted to try. I had found some chalk paint at Walmart made by Waverly and wanted to see how well it worked.

I painted each one with the white chalk paint and painted two coats.

Once the paint was dry, I used Waverly Antique Wax.

I put just a little on a rag, wiping some off on the paper I had down to protect the floor

Then I lightly rubbed it all over the raised surfaces of the metal medallion. I also went around the edges.

Here are all three!

I like how each one is a little different and I really like how they turned out! I had never used the antiquing method before, but it looks great.

I am giving you a little sneak peek at my faux fireplace! It should be done this week and then I will be able to show it off!

It’s October everyone! Halloween is just around the corner! I have no idea what I am going to be for Halloween or if I am going to even dress up. It depends on if I have to work that day or not.

These past two weeks have been school. Yippee. Here is my excited face.

Also, my iPhone imploded. I was charging it in my car when I heard a pop and smoke started to go everywhere in my car. I honestly didn’t know what was going on until I saw that my cable was smoking. Now it won’t hold a charge. But thankfully, my phone company has been really helpful and is sending me a replacement phone. Hooray for technology.

Other than those things, nothing real excited happened except for work and school. I hope you guys have a more exciting week than I had!
