Recycle a Sweater for Home Decor

Good morning! The days and nights are getting chillier! I do like fall, but I am not looking forward to winter. I don’t like the cold, dark and dreary days and the way it get dark so early. I am looking forward to the holidays though and being with my sweet family!

Have you ever recycled a piece of worn out clothing into something for your home? Sounds kind of crazy, but I have done this a few times. Mostly to make pillows out of, but this time I did something different. This sweater had a hole in the neckline, so it wasn’t wearable, but I liked the stripes and the colors of the fabric, so I chose to make a small stuffed pumpkin pillow with it.

I found a pumpkin pattern online and printed it out. Then I traced it onto the sweater with a piece of chalk.

I cut through both layers of the fabric so I would have two identical pieces. I sewed the pieces together, leaving an one inch opening at the bottom.

I stuffed the pumpkin and then hand stitched the opening closed. I cut out a stem from felt and found some embroidery thread in the same yellow color.

This part was a little difficult, but I stitched lines through all the layers using a long stitch. It was kind of hard keeping nice stitches, but with all the puffiness, you can’t really tell. Don’t be too hard on yourself!

Whew! Made it! Now just add the stem. I glued mine, but you could stitch it on too.

Once the pumpkin was finished, I placed it on my mantle with a few other fall items.

It gives a little spot of color in an otherwise neutral mantle.

I would love to know if you have recycled any clothing to create some home decor! Let me know! Have a wonderful day!

What’s In Your Drawers?

Good morning! I hope you are all safe and healthy! Are you enjoying fall weather where you are? We have had lovely cool nights here and it has been wonderful! We don’t usually get this long of a fall. It’s usually hot one day and then cold. This is so much nicer!

It’s also been nicer to get outside and work on some projects. I picked up this drawer awhile ago and finally got to do some work on it. The first thing to do was to clean it up. All the screws were removed, the hardware was removed, the drawer sanded and cleaned up.

I patched up the holes with wood filler, let it dry and then sanded it down. Now it was time to paint.

Just my normal Benjamin Moore Simply White.

Oops! I filled in the holes on the outside, but forgot the inside of the drawer! Filled them in, sanded and painted.

My husband cut various pieces of scrap wood to fit inside the drawer. I picked out some different neutral colored paints from my collection of paints.

I fit the boards inside the drawer and moved them around until I had them in the way I wanted.

I took the boards out in the same order and then painted them in the colors I had picked. I tried to vary the colors and sizes of boards so the same ones were not together. I really like the blue/gray one in the middle.

Once all the paint was dry, it was time to put the boards into the drawer. I used Gorilla Glue to attach them to the inside of the drawer.

I pressed the drawers in tightly and let it dry overnight. My pieces fit in pretty tight, but you could also weigh the boards down overnight to be sure they are glued in well.

I found this Grateful sign at our 99 Cent Store. Of course, I liked the color! I knew it would be perfect inside the drawer.

I used tiny nails to hang the sign inside the drawer. I hope I can find other word signs to hang in the drawer for each season or holiday.

I know this has been a really tough year for everyone, but I believe we can still find so many things to be grateful for. I have my family, friends, home, food, and so much more!

I hope you enjoyed this little project today! What things do you have to be grateful for? I would love to know how you are all doing!

Amazon Prime Days!

Good morning! I hope everyone is have a good week so far! Mine has been a little draining, but nothing too crazy. It just makes me very tired and makes me not want to do much after work. But, it’s nothing I can’t handle.

So today is the last day of Amazon Prime Days! There are so many good deals that you can get. It’s awesome! I wanted to show off some of the things on my Christmas list (hint hint nudge nudge) that happen to be a part of Amazon Prime days. There are a couple different things that I have here that you may enjoy as well!

The first thing on my Amazon Christmas list is a record player! I’ve been talking about a record player for a while and I think it would be super awesome to have one in my house. This one is also a bluetooth speaker which is perfect for you to connect your phone to and listen to your music. How cool is this?

The next thing I asked for is a new cat tree. My kitties have had the same cat tree since I have had them so I think it’s time to upgrade! I like that this one has a couple different levels plus the little hammock for them to sleep in. Plus it gives them a little extra places to hide.

How about some pillow covers? My living room is a travel theme so I can’t go wrong with simple black and white traveled themed pillow covers. These are also nice so I can switch the out anytime I want!

Who doesn’t want an Amazon Alexa Dot? This is the perfect thing for you! Not only does this device give you information, but it also works in your smart home system. This small device can help keep your home in order.

We can’t have a nice snuggly Christmas without a nice snuggly blanket! And who doesn’t want a blue leopard print one? Okay, maybe not everyone but blankets are a super nice thing to have for Christmas. Not only to buy but to receive!

I don’t have a big board game collection (not that I have room for it…), but I would like it to get a little bigger. I recently watched a group of friends play Clue Liars Edition and it looked like so much fun! It has a whole new element to the game that makes things much more interesting! Will you be the detective who figures out who did it?

Ok, so this last one isn’t on my Christmas list. But it was last year and I have to rave about it again. THIS BACKPACK! I love this backpack. It is the best backpack for any techie or not techie person. It has so many pockets and I never have to worry about if all of my stuff is going to fit. I use it all of the time and I have never had any issues with it. So, it isn’t on my list this year, but it definitely was last year.

The coolest part about Prime Days is that on Amazon there is a Prime Days “department” in the search bar. So you can guarantee that you will be seeing all of the Prime Days deals.

Also! Now is the perfect time to sign up for Amazon Prime! Right now you can sign up for a 30 day free trail of Amazon Prime. Or, if you have tried Amazon Prime in the past and want to try it again, now is the perfect time! If you click here, you will be able to sign up for Amazon Prime using our code (it gives us a little money back at no extra cost to you). Thank you so much for stopping by!

DIY Dog Costumes for Halloween!

Hello!  How is everyone doing this week?  We’ve been having some wonderful fall weather here! We usually don’t have much of a fall, so this is a welcome change. On Saturday night, our little family went to a corn maze and had so much fun! We actually were able to find all 12 checkpoints and only got lost a couple of times.

This week we are looking forward to Halloween (it is only a couple weeks away if you weren’t aware).  And we are taking a look at some Halloween costumes for our furry friends!  Now, my cats would think that it’s the worst thing in the world to be dressed up in a costume, but other people will dress their pets up for each Halloween.  So here are some ideas for you if you have decided to dress up your pet but you don’t have any ideas.  Enjoy!

This Ty Beanie Baby swing tag costume is easy to make and adorable on pets but can also be a great costume for their humans, too. I'm loving this for the Howloween Pet Parade!

This is so simple, but so cute!

Day of the Dead Hoop Wall Hanging

Good morning! It’s October! Fall is coming quickly! I hope you have been safe and are enjoying some fall weather where you are. I think of all of you every day and pray for you and your families. I love having you come by and visit! Thank you!

I have another Day of the Dead, or Dio de la Muertos craft idea today, but this could be easily adopted to other holidays or colors. Think fall colors with pumpkins or even Christmas with ornaments. So many ideas!

I started with an embroidery hoop, chunky yarn, silk flowers and Day of the Dead sugar skulls.

I cut several pieces of each color of yarn and then started tying them on the bottom of the hoop. I folded the yarn in half and laid it over the hoop.

I took the two loose ends of the yarn, wrapped them around the back of the hoop and then thread it through the loop.

Pull the yarn tight to form the knot. Keep adding yarn for as far as you want it to go.

I added four strings of each color that I was using.

I trimmed the bottom of the yarn to make it a bit more even.

I hot glued three flowers on the hoop over the knots of yarn.

Then I took three skulls and glued them to the top of the hoop. I chose two white ones and one with color.

This is such a simple little craft! It’s perfect to add to my other Day of the Dead items- shadowbox, Ofrenda.

I have this in my entryway right now, but I will move most of it outside to my Ofrenda just before Halloween. Have you ever decorated with Day of the Dead items or put together an Ofrenda? I would love to hear about it!
