Living Room Idea Board

Good morning! Can you believe it will be February this week? Crazy! Even though time is going quickly, I am so ready for warmer weather. I am definitely a summer kind of girl!

Since I am stuck inside most of the time, I have thinking all the projects I want to get done in our house. We have lived in this home for two years now. We did quite a few projects at the very beginning. My husband scraped all the popcorn ceilings. It was a huge job, but I’m so glad we got it done before we moved in! Then we had all the ceilings textured and had the whole inside of the house painted. This gave me a nice clean slate to start with! But now, I have been thinking more about what I want each room to look and feel like.

We are starting with the living room this year.We will be putting in new floors. I’m pretty sure the carpet has been here since the house was built in 1968. Yuck! Here is a picture of what it looks like now.

Fall 2017 green, black living room

I have picked out a lighter color floor since the room isn’t used on a daily basis. It also has to blend with the existing floor in the dining room. Here is the one we are looking at.

We want to add 2 faux beams, new base boards and other trim around the room. Once the floor is done, this idea board shows what I would like to have in the living room area.

Right before Christmas, I found an Ikea Ektorp Loveseat on OfferUp. I couldn’t believe the deal I got! I had been searching for awhile and was so excited to find this. It is in perfect shape! Now I can plan the rest of the room.

(I have links at the bottom of the post for all the items on my idea board)

I would like to have 2 side chairs and I love the look of these Bashir Armchairs by Birch Lane Heritage. The stripe is subtle enough that I can still add other pattern and color to the room. I love the classic look of these chairs.

I desperately need a coffee table in this room. Right now I am using a small oval wicker table we have had for over 30 years. I love this Stoneford Coffee Table! It has just the coastal look I am looking for in this room! I especially like the “X” design on the sides.

The Beachcrest Sade Tree Floor Lamp is so cool! I really like the shades on this one. I like how it would arch over the loveseat a bit to add more light. The color of the Mercury Row Miltiades Table Lamp is perfect too! It adds just a bit of the turquoise that I love so much.

Of course, I have to have pillows! I already have a closet full, but the texture and colors on this Sacks Indoor Lumbar Pillow are so perfect! It has a little bit of a boho feel to it too.

I always have a hard time with artwork, but I really like the look of this Marine Sunset on Canvas. It’s not so overly coastal, but still has all the soft colors and look that I like.

Well, that’s it for now! That’s my goal for this year! I can’t wait to see how it is all going to turn out! I will be sure to keep you all posted!

Valentine’s Day Tablescape

Hello!  I hope you have all had a wonderful start to 2019.  But as you know the year is flying by already and it’s almost Valentine’s Day!  I am reposting my tablescape from last year which was an awesome post thanks to Oriental Trading Company.  Now, everything is still available except for the candy jar.  But there are plenty of other options of candy jars to pick from.  So let your heart and dreams go wild!

*This blog post contains sponsored content from Oriental Trading Company*

So it’s becoming that time again for all of the love.  You know what I’m talking about.  Hearts in red and pink all over the stores shelves.  And not only in the stores, but also online as well.  And Oriental Trading is all about the holidays.

And after much deliberation on what to pick from their website, I finally decided on doing a tablescape.  So after doing a lot of shopping around and putting things in my cart and taking them out, I finally ordered my things and started my tablescape.

Valentine's Day Tablescape Full

And here it is!  I love how it turned out and love each piece that I picked out.  So lets see what I picked.

Valentine's Day Tablescape Center

The first thing is this cute candy jar.  It has a small chalkboard on the front so you can write what kind of candy is in it.  Or, you can draw a heart on it like I did.  But it fits quite a bit of candy in it, so go bananas!

Valentine's Day Tablescape Across

The next thing is the heart tree, if that’s what you want to call it.  It’s a tree in a small pot that you can bend and shape however you want to.  It’s only about 18 inches tall, so it won’t block your view of your loved one.

There’s also the rose garland in the middle of the table.  I added the pink puffball garland and the white puffball garland as well, just to add some stuff to the middle.

Valentine's Day Tablescape Diamonds

And these jewels?  Yep, bought them from Oriental.  I bought a pink, black, and clear pack so I had a variety to spread around the table.  Each color came in a pack of 25 diamonds, so you get a lot of bang for your buck.

Valentine's Day Tablescape Plates

The plates were also purchased from Oriental.  And the silver place mats!  Okay, the place mats were from mom from the last time we worked with Oriental, but they looked great with the rest of the tablescape.  I bought the small candy baking cups from the 99 Cent Store, but they looked so good with the plates.

Valentine's Day Tablescape Overtop

So this is what the table looks like from above!  It’s so cute!

Valentine's Day Tablescape Love

The last thing I got from Oriental was this pretty gold LOVE sign.  It sat so nicely on the cake plate in the background of the photos.  And I must say that I am very excited to put this on my gallery wall in my apartment.

Side note: out cat Kiara is extremely nosy and wants to be in the middle of EVERYTHING.

Valentine's Day Tablescape Kiara

And finally, we found some cute pet clothes for Valentine’s Day at the 99 Cent Store which we had to buy.  Repeat HAD TO.  So we had a little doggy (and kitty) photoshoot for the holiday!

Obviously, Kiara looks annoyed that I took her photo, but I love her all the better!  And Ezzy is on a different couch because she is our senior citizen and I didn’t want to move her.

So that was my fun with Oriental.  I love how the table turned out, but I love the animals as well.  Have a good Wednesday!

Valentine’s Day ‘I Love You’ Wooden Blocks

I know Valentine’s Day is still a month away, but I thought I would repost these wooden blocks in case you were ready to get started on your decorations!

Good morning! Are you ready for February and lots of pink and glitter? My classroom is full of glitter and sparkles right now. Lol! But I want to keep things a little more simple at home.

I have had these blocks for too many years, circa 1990’s. They spelled out our last name. I wasn’t going to use them for the original purpose, but I kept thinking they were such nice wooden blocks, there had to be something I could do with them. I finally came up with something.

wooden blocks i love you

The pictures I took of each step, turned out blurry, but the steps were pretty simple. I painted the sides and back of the block white. Then I used painters tape and to block off the front of the block because I wanted it to stay white. I used scissors to cut straight edges. I went over the sides and a little bit on the front edge with black.

Here is how they turned out. I like the little black edge on the front. I found some black chipboard letters and made a heart out of scrapbooking paper.

Since I only had 5 blocks, I decided on i, u, x, o and a heart.

I layered a soft pink paper over scripted paper to make the heart.

I think it’s the perfect little Valentine’s Day touch!

I’m glad I finally found a use for something else I already had and I love how they turned out! So simple and just the perfect little Valentine touch to my mantel!

Drop Cloth Winter Wreath

Good morning! I hope you are all well today! We are having lots of rainy weather lately. We need the rain, but my yard is a muddy mess! Hopefully it won’t be too long before we are nice and warm again and the mud will be gone.

I saw this drop cloth wreath over at Thistlewood Farms blog, my favorite blog, by the way! I thought this wreath would be great for the winter months, but it would be perfect any time of year! Here’s the link for the wreath, but be sure to check out her other posts. KariAnne is a terrific writer and so creative.

You can find out all the instructions over at her blog too and mine are pretty much the same. The only difference, I had to cut many more leaves than she did, so my wreath form must be larger than hers.

Supplies:

  • Wreath form-I used a metal one from the Dollar Tree, but you could use other kinds too
  • Drop Cloth
  • Scissors
  • Hot Glue

I ended up cutting about 150 leaves. i was able to cut several layers at the same time, so it didn’t take too long.

Once the leaves were cut, I added a dot of glue at the end of the leaf to give it a little bit of curve. This will give the wreath a little more depth.

Once all the pieces had their dot of glue, the leaves were glued onto the wreath form. I glued them on, staggering them, but keeping them all going the same direction.

I hung the wreath on a shutter on my mantle. I have a random outlet right in the middle of the wall above the fireplace, so I always have to find something to cover it up. This shutter was perfect.

I like the contrast of the brown shutter with the white wreath.

I added a couple of brass candlesticks and a little bird to the mantle as well. I’m hoping the bird will bring spring a little sooner. 🙂

Have you ever used drop cloth for any projects? I’ve used it for curtains on my back patio and also as tablecloths, but I have never done a smaller project like this. I really like the texture of it and the soft creamy white color.
