Summer Coastal Dining Room

COASTAL DINING ROOM TITLE

Good morning! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and were able to celebrate Father’s Day with your families! We had Haley’s graduation party on Saturday and she also bought a car that morning! It was a crazy busy weekend, but filled with good times!

I thought today I would show you a few quick pictures of my coastal dining room. I didn’t buy anything new. I just used what I had. I benefit of having most of your house decorated with neutrals or the same colors, is that you can move things around from space to space and it looks new and refreshed again!

I used a lantern as my larger piece and stacked it on a few books.

I added my glass fishing floats and lots of seashells scattered on a blue and white runner.

Lazy Days and Lemonade Wood Sign

Good morning! Happy Memorial Day! Thank you to all those who serve, have served or have given their life for our freedom. You are appreciated!

I have had this sign for several years and it was definitely showing its age. The colors were faded and the paint just looked awful, but I love this saying! So I decided to redo it.

I decided to use my favorite summer colors: apple green, oasis blue and orange. I gave the wood a little bit of sanding and then spray painted the board with Rustoleum Apple Green.

Once it was dry, I taped a piece of newspaper on the middle of the board. I curved the edges to give it a softer look. Once the newspaper was secure, I spray painted Rustoleum Oasis Blue over the whole thing.

Here’s what it looked like after removing the paper.

I looked through the different fonts on my computer and choose the ones I wanted and then printed them out.

Once the papers were cut, I scribbled pencil over the back of each piece. I had to press down fairly hard in order for it to show up on the board.

I placed the papers where I wanted them on the board and then traced over the letters with my pencil, pressing down hard until I could see the letters.

I used a thin paintbrush and orange acrylic paint to paint over the pencil marks.

Once everything was dry, I lightly sanded over the whole board to give it a worn look. Finally, I was able to take it out to my patio and display it on my potting table.

The colors are perfect!

Celebration!! Our Peacock Graduation Party 2015

Good morning! I hope everyone had a great week! We are headed south for Haley’s graduation! Unbelievable!! It seems like we just did this a couple of years ago, but it’s been 4 years since her high school graduation. We won’t be having her graduation party until June, so I thought I would share her peacock party with you again! I love decorating and coming up with ideas for parties! Enjoy!!

The day finally arrived! All the pomp and circumstance! What a crazy week leading up to this day, but I have lots of great memories I am tucking away. My baby graduated! It just seems so crazy that time has passed so quickly!

I had so much fun decorating for the party! For starters, it was in my favorite colors!

Second, decorating helps to keep me busy and maybe not shed so many tears! Haley picked out the peacock theme and we went with turquoise, lime green, purple and a little black.  We purchased most of the paper goods at Hobby Lobby and the silk flowers came from the 99 Cent Store. I did order some of the peacock feathers and our very kind neighbor gave some others. He owns some peacocks and had been collecting feathers for us for the last 2 months. He also gave us the 2 metal peacocks to use as decorations. We are so thankful to have such great and generous neighbors!

We started with purple tablecloths and laid a runner of turquoise sparkly mesh down the middle. I also added some graduation scatter on the runner. We created centerpieces with peacock feathers, lime green cattails, and grasses to glass vases. We bought Floral Gel Beads (from the Dollar Tree) and Haley added food coloring until she got the color she wanted. We added these to the bottom of the vases. We kept the table very simple.

We had purchased tissue paper balls and paper fans from Hobby Lobby and hung them above the food table and the main dining area.

The Candy Bar was the real hit! Do you recognize the beverage bar I made a month or so ago? I found the beautiful peacock feather wreath at Michaels several months ago and hung that on the top. Then we added glass containers for the candy. The glass jars came from Target, as did the 2015 dishes. The other clear bowl were from Walmart. Most of the candy was in the turquoise theme, but Haley wanted a couple of her absolute favorites too, Swedish Fish and Peanut Butter M & M’s!

I also made a bunch of these tassels from tissue paper and hung them in different areas around the space. There were some by the food table, the drink table and the patio.

We had a table with lots of memorabilia from Haley’s high school years and even younger, but since I didn’t want to plaster her information all over the internet, I will just show you a picture of her medals. She is a discus thrower for her school and is the school record holder! We are all very proud of her!

You can just see a little corner of the prayer the principal gave for all the seniors. He had verses and then listed each seniors name. It was so moving and made the occasion so much more special.

We had so much fun planning this whole party! We received many compliments and it was a great way for Haley and I to work together to make the day more special. I am so very proud of my girl and can’t wait to see what the future brings!

How I Cheat When I Cover My Outdoor Cushions

Good morning! Are you ready for Easter this Sunday? We will be going to my parents house and having our annual egg hunt. We have 3 littles, so this is always a fun event! Even the adults get a chance to find their special egg. We should be having great weather too!

Since the weather has been so nice, I have been working on some projects in our back yard and patio. One of the projects that needed done was recovering my outdoor cushions. I did this a few years ago too. You can see it here. I recovered these cushions about 5 years ago, so it had lasted for quite awhile, but they had become faded and dirty. I had bought indoor/outdoor fabric last time, but this time Haley had found some pretty shower curtains from Goodwill, and I knew they would be perfect for the cushions. Here are the old covers.

So my secret to recovering my cushions, is…hot glue! You read that right! I glue the fabric on! I can sew, but I am not good enough to actually sew slip covers, so this is the next best thing. Now when the fabric becomes dirty and faded, I can just tear it off and put new covers on. Isn’t this fabric pretty! I love all the shades of blue. This is what the cushion looked like under the fabric.

Each shower curtain covered 2 cushions. The back of my chairs are open in the back, so I had to cover the whole front and the back of the cushion for the back of the chair. For the seat cushion, I could leave some of the under section of the seat cushion uncovered.

I started by figuring out how much I would need to cover the back cushion and cut that piece off from the big piece. I folded one side over towards the middle. I put a line of hot glue along the cushion and pressed the fabric onto it.

After that piece was secure, I folded over the other side towards they middle. I put more hot glue and pressed that side into it.

Once the fabric was secure in the middle, I worked on the sides. I laid them out flat and then folded the sides in towards the middle like wrapping a present.

I then folded those ends up over the cushion and hot glued them down. I made sure I hot glued all over to make sure the fabric was secure.

I did have to put a seam on the front of the bottom cushion since the fabric didn’t quite fit, but the back cushion covers it.

I love how they turned out! It looks so fresh and clean now! My kitty Kiara, decided they looked comfy too!

I didn’t have enough fabric to cover the loveseat, but I will try to find some solid blue fabric so it coordinates with the chairs.

I also gave the chairs a fresh coat of black paint.

I added some fun summer pillows, some plants and a small rug to this corner. It looks so comfy and inviting.

What do you think? Would you try something like this? I love how easy it is! I would love to hear from you!

What’s been happening here!

Good morning! I’m so glad you stopped by today! I don’t have a new completed project today, but I wanted to catch you up on a few things that have been going on around here. I have some projects done, but got started on them before taking picture. Oops! I have some projects in the middle of completion, but I have one I can share next week! Yippee!

Here’s the project I will share next week:

I recovered two of my outdoor chairs with…shower curtains! I will detail the process next week. Don’t they look so pretty!

Project number 2: See the wall at the bottom right of the first picture? It was a half wall with posts on the top. Very 1960’s. My husband tore all that out and oh my goodness! What a difference! It really opened up the room! I love it! He also took the drywall off the header above the opening and we are going to try to make it look like a beam. I’m so excited!

Steve also made this plant holder. Lauren featured this on her Garden Round Up Friday post and we both decided we wanted one, so Steve got busy! I planted a couple of succulents and some basil seeds in the others. I love it by the fountain!

I hope you all have a great week! Thanks for stopping by!
