Pink Floral Valentine Heart

Good Saturday morning! Ahh! Is a day to relax for you or are you busy running around? We have a few household things to take care of , but not too much on the agenda. Of course, there’s the Super Bowl tomorrow. Are you watching or is shopping calling your name? We will just be hanging out at home watching the commercials, while my husband watched the actual game. 🙂

Lauren and I kind of came up with the same type of Valentine project and we hadn’t even talked about it ahead of time. A little scary! We both used silk flowers and mounted them, hers is on a canvas and mine is on a weathered board. You can see hers here. Anyways, I had a bunch of small boards that Lauren had painted awhile ago, plus some silk flowers in my stash and decided to try and put them together.

I pulled out the flowers I wanted to use, I chose pink,  and then decided on a grey board so the flowers would really stand out. I drew a heart on a piece of paper and then traced it onto the board so I would have a little bit of an outline to put my flowers in.

I did try this a couple of different ways, but ended up using just one type and color of flower. I was so busy gluing and placing flowers, I forgot to take any pictures during. Sorry! But it is pretty simple. I glued them really close together so they would be nice and tight. I even trimmed some of the petals to give it more of a heart shape. I think maybe smaller flowers with tighter petals would have worked better, but I still think this looks good.

I used a decorative stand to display it on and placed it my shelves in my dining room with my other pink decor.

This was really simple, but I think it looks nice and adds just a little special touch to the shelf.

I hope you have a wonderful Saturday!

Finds and Fashions-January 17, 2017

Hello again! It’s time for another Finds and Fashions…except I don’t have any (sigh). I really haven’t been out shopping or buying much lately, unless you count paint and primer, but that’s not too exciting.

I did take the doors off the coat closet that is right in front of the front door. It’s so close, you practically run into it. I want to remove the insides and the wall in the front, just to give a little more room. There is another coat closet in the hallway, so we really don’t need this one. (really bad picture…sorry!)

After I took the doors off, I realized I could put them together and form a kind of screen in front of the water heater. The water heater sits right inside the door into the laundry room and you can see it from the family room. This at least disguises it a bit. I want to do something pretty with it in the future.

We also brought this big window from the old house and are in the process of installing it between the dining room and kitchen. Can you guess what it is going to be when it is finished?  You also get a sneak peek into the dining room! This is the only room that is even a little bit decorated.

That’s going to be it for today! I hope you have a wonderful day and hopefully I can show you a little more progress on Monday!

Master Closet Makeover

Good Monday morning! Are you off today for Martin Luther King Jr. birthday? I am! Even though I just had time off for Christmas, I still enjoy another free day. I just feel like I have so much to do at the house. It is slowly coming together. The painting is just about done, just the kitchen is left. Yay! It is so nice to see the fresh white paint and to have the house slowly getting cleaned up. I have worked in the living room the most, just because I seem to have an idea of where I want it to go :)! The other rooms haven’t really formed in my mind yet. But they will! Until they do, I have another makeover to show you.

This is the Master Room Closet. It’s not very big, but I have tried to make the most of the space.

Here is the before:  The bar wasn’t even hung on the rack!

We took everything out and I gave it a good coat of paint. I also took off the sliding doors and added folding doors so I could see everything better. I knew I wanted plenty of room for my shoe collection :), so I planned around the shoe organizers. I hung two bars on one side of the closet, one for tops and one for pants and skirts.

I also am a little OCD with my hangers. I have all my summer and winter tops in there, plus my scarves and belts.

After everything else was fit to the closet, we added the shelf back in. I have my jeans and extra pj’s up there.

Down on the lower rod, I have my pants, some jackets and my shorter skirts.

And my pride and joy…my multiple shoe organizers! I bought 3 of these from Target (I had one from the old house). We stacked them and attached them to the wall so I wouldn’t have shoes raining down on my head. On the lower organizers I left out one of the dividers so I could fit my boots in.

I just love how I can see everything at one time. I really helps me use what I have and not buy multiple items because I can’t find it or see it.

Here’s a before and after for you:

That’s one more step to getting the house to normal! Maybe next week I can actually show you a whole room…or maybe just part of one! Hope you have a wonderful week!

What part of the house is NOT a Mess?

Good morning!  How are things in your neck of the woods?  Our weather is pretty crazy right now with buckets of rain! We need it so badly, especially the snow in the mountains, so it is pretty wonderful!

Our house is still a complete disaster! Before we moved in, Steve had removed all the popcorn ceiling, but we hadn’t had time to do anything else. So now we had the ceiling textured. What a mess! Even though everything was covered with plastic, there is still dust everywhere! We have had everything primered now and the family room and dining room are done.  There is still the living room, kitchen, 3 bedrooms, the hallway, and the entry. Still a ways to go, but at least we are seeing progress. So since the house is still a mess, I had to find a project to be able to show you.

I knew I wanted to do something different with my spices, especially since I have so much more storage in this kitchen. This worked great when I didn’t have much storage space. I was able to see all my spices at once. I ordered these from Amazon. This is what I did before:

But I had seen this idea, and knew it would be perfect.

Here is the link to the original post I saw: How to Make a Spice Drawer Organizer

I am not going to add all the measurements, because every drawer is going to be a different size, but you can get the general idea from the pictures. We used 1/4 inch thick wood and cut 4 pieces the width of the drawer. We also made sure they were tall enough for the spice jars.

diy-spice-drawer-organizer

The risers were cut so that the spices could sit on them and the drawer would still open and shut.

The bottom of the jar is going to rest on the riser of the shelf in front of it.

Here is a side view so you can get a better idea of how it works. The jars in the back were a little bigger than the others., so the riser had to be shorter for that one.

I really love how this turned out! I have it right near the stove so I can reach for whatever spices I need. It also helps to keep track of what I already have or may need the next time I go to the store.

Happy New Year! 2017! Amazing! We hope you all had a wonderful holiday! We  want to say Thank You so much to all of you who follow along or even just stop by once in awhile to say ‘hello.’ We couldn’t keep going without all you support and encouragement for what we do. We have been missing quite a bit around here lately, but here is the reason…

2016 was a year of a lot of changes here in our household. Lauren moved twice, we moved after living in the same house for 23 years, we brought not one, but two puppies home, and we went to Hawaii! Wow! I am hoping for a little more calm in my 2017. How about you? Do you pick a word for the year or already have plans? I can’t wait to see what 2017 will bring!

For now I thought we would look back at 2016 and see what some of the top posts were for the year. Starting with number 10.

And our number 1 project!! Another recycled/upcycled one! I guess I know what you all like to see and read about!

It’s nice to go back sometimes and actually see everything you have accomplished over the year. It’s easy to just look at all that needs done and forget about everything you have accomplished.

Thank you again to all of you who follow along! We plan on many more projects in 2017!
