DIY Wooden American Flag

wooden flag sticker stars and book page stripes title

I created a little flag from some of the scrap pieces of wood I have laying around. This one was already painted red, so I figured that would work well for the stripes. Now, I made two mistakes on this craft. 1. I forgot to take pictures of all the parts of the process. It’s not too difficult, so I’m sure you will be able to figure it out. 2. I forgot to paint the star part of the flag white before I painted it blue. But I did come up with a solution.

Like I said, my wood was already red, so I taped off the part for the stars. If I had been thinking, I should have painted this square white before putting the stickers on, but, alas, I didn’t.

I found these stickers at Dollar Tree and stuck on 50 of them. That’s when I  realized I should have painted it white, but I really didn’t want to have to redo the stars again. So I just spray painted navy blue over everything.

Once it was dry, I peeled the star stickers off the board. I have a white Sharpie paint pen, so I colored in each of the stars. It really didn’t take too long since the stars are small.

I didn’t get the pictures of the white stripes, but they are book pages with torn edges. I wanted 6 white stripes, 3 short ones and 3 long ones. For the long ones, I had to put 2 pieces together. I used Tacky Glue to attach them.

Really pretty easy! I know you got this!

Make an American Flag from Pickets

Happy 4th of July!!

I thought you would enjoy this little picture. I’m not sure how much the pups enjoyed it, but they sure look cute!

Picket Fence Flag Title

I posted this a couple of years ago, but thought it was perfect for today! I had gathered some pickets from a neighbor a couple of years ago when he took down his fence. I have used them for a potting table and also a little side table. I wasn’t using the small table anymore, so I took it apart and used the pieces.  Steve removed the nails from each of the pieces, than I gave each one a good scrubbing.

I painted 4 pickets antique white and 3 pickets grey. I didn’t cover them too thoroughly, just enough to freshen them up.

I took one of the squares from the table that was taken apart and painted it blue. After the paint dried, I sprayed a little bit of turquoise over the top and then sanded it down.

These pieces also came from the table and they were attached to the back to hold all the pickets together.

Here is my bottle cap collection! My girls and I have collected these for years while taking walks around the neighborhood. We have an alley behind us and there are always treasures to be found.  The girls and I picked out caps with blue, gold, silver and a little bit of red. We tried to get them all different and then placed them on the blue square in random order. I used my nail-gun to attach them.

All done! This was such a simple project to put together and I love how it turned out!

I don’t really decorate with red, so I tried to keep this as neutral as possible.

I’m still loving this flag and have it on my mantle now. I hope you all have a happy and safe 4th of July!

Patriotic Front Porch Makeover

Have you ever had time when you had so many ideas in your mind, but can’t find the energy to actually implement those ideas? That’s where I have been for several months now. But, I am done with school for the summer now, and I am hoping some of the inspiration will come back. I was able to change out the front porch and get it ready for summer!

I love changing out this chalkboard for the different seasons. I wanted things to be a little bit summer and a little bit 4th of July.

I also had to add in a little bit of the nautical look I love so much. This pillow was actually made from a child’s t-shirt.

Lauren made this wreath for me for Mother’s day, just like she made my mom one. Here is the post where she explains how it was done using a pool noodle and flowers from the Dollar Store.

My pillow is missing a button! I wonder which state it is?!

I love these bottles! They look so summery. I used some foam to keep the flags upright.

I at least look like I am ready for the season! Do you decorate your front porch too? I would love to know what you add to look festive! Hope you have a great week!
