CORNER NEWS-FEBRUARY 20

Happy Saturday! Always glad to have a weekend to get caught up on home stuff! I made a quick (!) stop at Hobby Lobby yesterday and found this cool whale’s tail book-end.  Maybe it was supposed to have another end, but this part was on clearance, so I snatched it up. I love it! It fits perfect with my beachy theme, plus it’s neutral enough to go with anything.

I also picked up this wooden tree in the new spring section. Karianne, over at Thistlewood Farms featured these and a some cute wooden birds on her blog and I just fell in love with them. They are the perfect accent for spring! I LOVE her blog and her style!  Her mantle looks so much better than mine. You can click on Thistlewood Farms above to take a look!

Guess where we just came back from?! Did you notice we seemed to be a little bit absent from the blog this past week? We were enjoying lots of sunshine and warm weather. Maybe this is why I liked the whale’s tail so much! I will be blogging about this soon!

Corner News-January 2, 2016!

Welcome to the first official post of 2016!  2015 was an amazing year, but we want to make 2016 even better.

But, before 2016 even got started, we took a family vacation to Morro Bay.  This beautiful beach destination is only about 2 hours away from us, so it’s nice for a day trip.

After we arrived and had lunch, we started walking down the street for some shopping.  But before we could get anywhere, we saw some seals sunbathing on a deck.  Why not take a picture of them?

Next, we did some store looking.  It’s like window shopping, but we actually go into the store and look around.  This particular store always has these star lights in it, so Haley and I like to look at them.  Of course, I took a picture of the pink ones.

Next, we went to mom and my favorite store.  It is called the Garden Gallery and it has some beautiful items that it has for decoration.  They had a lot of Christmas Trees up that had different decorations.

I also saw this adorable old fashion car in The Garden Gallery.  How cute is it?

So after all of our hard shopping, we had to go get candy.  There’s a great little place called Kelly’s Candies that we get all of our sweets from.  Haley decided to pull an Ariana Grande and “lick” the candy before taking it home.

Jelly Belly

But the staple of the store is the Dutch mints.  They are hard candy shells with a soft mint inside.  Mom and I always buy a bag or we will be sad.

And finally, we made it to the beach!  It was an absolutely beautiful day, so why not make a video to document the day?

I hope that you enjoyed our little mini vacation.  It was a great way to spend our New Years Eve and it was a great way to start off the new blog year!

Corner News Friday August 28, 2015

Happy Friday everyone! I survived my first week back in the classroom and I think the kids did too!! Just kidding. I think this is going to be a great class. They are smart and are learning the routine very quickly. I am excited about this year.

I did manage to get a couple little projects done. Here is one. I have had this little doggy since I was in college (I will spare you how many years ago this was!), but she was in need of a little update. Spray paint to the rescue! Here she is before:

And after! Just some plain black glossy paint updated her to the new era!

We also went to watch our local baseball team, courtesy of my husband’s company. The guys have been so safe at work, they and their families were treated to a night out. The team pulled out a win in the 10th inning! They have played great all season. I think they were trying to make it last a little longer by going into extra innings!

Two weekends ago we enjoyed some time at our favorite beach. Here is just one of the bunches of pictures I took of the beautiful sunset.

My Beachy Spring Decorating

We are having some very lovely weather here in Central California. Unfortunately, we need rain and snow in the mountains very badly.  Could all of you in the snowy places, send us some?  Thanks!  Anyways, the sunshine makes me want to decorate for spring. Lighten things up and dream of some beach time!

Springtime!

Springtime!

I love decorating with seashells. They are neutral, plus have interesting shapes and I can fit them in anywhere. They go especially well with all my turquoise. I am trying to slowly go to a more neutral color scheme, so my shells will still fit in perfectly.

My style

This shelf is in my dining/computer area. I have had it a very long time.  It used to be that wonderful hunter green, until it got a fresh coat of paint. I also changed out the hooks for some old doorknobs. That glass one took a lot of glue and drying time to get it to stay! IMG_2586

Lauren decoupaged this frame with old book pages, I have had the turquoise jar for a long time, the ‘S’ came from Michaels and the little glass bowl holds a bunch of old keys. IMG_2583

Simple and neutral

Here we have a spindle I covered with twine, an adorable picture of the girls when they were small and a jar given to me by Haley.

This cute little bird drawing in the seashell frame was drawn by Lauren when she was in grade school. She didn’t like it, but I thought it was perfect! I have had it framed in different areas of the house ever since.

Such a sweet little picture

I bought this small crate from the Railroad Museum in Sacramento when the girls were young and we visited the museum with my sister, who lived in Sacramento at the time.  I have a small sea urchin bowl on top and a seashell and jar inside.  I won a 6 pack of these wonderful turquoise Ball jars from another blog. I filled it partway with sand and added a few small sand-dollars. IMG_2581 Underneath the shelf I have a white metal record-player table.  Remember those! Really big CD’s! I have an old turquoise bucket that is actually an ice-cream maker bucket from my grandma.  I have no idea how old this thing is.  But the color is perfect! I’m sure Grandma new thought it would be used this way! I filled it with branches and flowers from my yard. I love the blossoms! IMG_2588 Well, that’s the start of spring decorating! I am still working on the hallway and hope to have that done soon so I can show it off.  Hope you all have a wonderful day!
