Picket Snowman Christmas Countdown

I wanted to get in a little Christmas in July before it was too late! Here’s a great project to work on now so you will be all ready for the holidays!

Good morning! It’s almost Thanksgiving!! Can you believe it! Do you start decorating already or do you wait until after Thanksgiving? I have started, mostly because of this blog, but I love it! I especially like the twinkling lights. So festive!

I have a Christmas craft for you today. I should have pictures of the living room and dining room for you next week. There are just a few finishing touches and it’s all ready for the holiday!

*(affiliate links are included at the end of the post for your convenience)*

For this project, I started out with a old painted clay pot. I sanded it down a little and then spray painted it white.

After the paint had dried, I mixed up the Plaster of Paris. The package I had contained 4 lbs. of plaster. I used all of it. Of course, this is because one package drained out the hole in the bottom, even though I tried plugging it. After putting another piece of cardboard in the bottom and letting that plaster dry, I added the rest. I used a couple of disposable containers to mix the plaster in. I poured in the required amount of water, added the plaster and then mixed until  smooth. Then I poured each one into the pot.

Once the plaster had set for a bit, about 1/2 hour, I put an old picket into the pot. You could use pallet wood or buy a piece from the store too. I then put some scrap pieces of wood around it to keep it upright until it completely hardened, about 24 hours.

Now comes the fun of decorating my snowman. I found an old pair of socks and used a red one to make the hat. I cut off the toe and then slid it over the top of the picket and tied it with a plaid ribbon. I also found a piece of red fleece to tie as a scarf. I hot glued some buttons for the eyes and the mouth.

Steve cut a small triangle for scrap wood to use as the nose. I painted it bright orange and then attached it with hot glue.

I found these numbers awhile ago at a thrift store with no idea what I was going to use them for. This was a perfect craft for them! You could also use scrapbook numbers or house numbers or even print some off the computer to use.

I hammered in small nails, below the scarf, that didn’t have much of a head on them, so I could easily slip each number on each day.

I added a little batting to the pot to look like snow and he is done! He adds a little cuteness to the front porch!

Maybe I will add some stick arms too! With mittens!

This is a great way for your kids to count down the days to Christmas and a reminder for you every time you come to the door!! Of course, we don’t get real snow here, so maybe this makes him more likable. 🙂  See you next week with Christmas decor!

Christmas Home Tour

Good morning! Only a little over a week and it’s Christmas! It is coming so fast, but I am enjoying all the special moments! I think I am ready and am looking forward to spending time with family and friends.

I realized I hadn’t shown you much of my home decorated for Christmas, so I thought I would give you a little tour today along with a little story.

Many year ago, when I was 6 years old, I was going to be an angel in the Christmas program at church.

I was excited to wear the white gown, the wings and the sparkly halo. I was going to be in front of the whole church along with 5 other little angels.

A week or so before the program, my parents went out for the evening and my older sister was babysitting. Well, as siblings will do, my older sister wanted me to do something I didn’t want to do…go to bed!

I held on to the cupboard knob under the sink while she tried to pull me to the bedroom. It was quite the tug-of-war and in the end, I came out with a broken pinkie finger!

This was quite traumatic for me! How could I be an angel on stage with a splint on my finger?! I just couldn’t do it!

My mom and dad tried talking me into still going on stage, my teacher talked to me too, but I just wouldn’t do it!  Finally my mom offered me a bribe.

She told me I could open a Christmas present early if I would still go up on stage. That did it! What six year old doesn’t want to open a present early?! I finally went on stage on performance night and hid my splint under my fancy angel sleeve.

And you know what? I have no idea what the present was that I opened! I’m sure it was something special at the time, but I don’t remember it now. I don’t know why I was being so stubborn, but I’m sure glad my mom figured out a way to get me to go on stage!

I hope you all have a Merry Christmas and many happy memories with your family and friends! Thank you for stopping by today!

This blog post is about printables.  We have 4 different printables for you today and I hope that you enjoy them.  They were fun to make!

The first printable I have is actually from a previous blog post for the 2019 Christmas Blog Hop post.  This printable is a Christmas To Do Coloring Page.  This is a cute Christmas tree with ornaments on it.  Some of the ornaments have Christmas activities that you can do and others are empty to put your own Christmas activities in.  Click on the link below to download the printable and use it yourself!

The other printables that we have are all gift tags.  There are three different kinds of tags for your Christmas gifts.  There are blue circular tags that fold over so you can hide the to and from on the inside.  The second tags are pink (my favorite) with cute little pink Christmas trees on the front and the third ones are silver with little black reindeer.  These are all easy to punch a hole in to tie a ribbon through it.

And that’s it!  It’s not very much, but we enjoyed putting this all together.  I know I personally will be using the Christmas To Do List because it’s a great way to keep my Christmas organized.  And I will definitely use the pink tags for all of my Christmas gifts.  Let me know if you are going to be using any of these for your Christmas!

Coastal Buoy Christmas Wreath

Good morning! We are back today with another idea for the Twelve Days of Christmas-Wreaths! Here is a link back to the original post where you can see all the other hosts and their ideas! Don’t forget the inlinkz and the giveaway at the end of this post!

76996992_2464543913815532_1581782501737627648_n

I love the coastal look, which most of you know already, so I made a Coastal Buoy for my Christmas Wreath! This will go much better with my decor!

Coastal buoy christmas wreath title

Here are the supplies you will need:

  • Green or white foam circle form
  • White paint (optional)
  • Strips of cotton or muslin fabric
  • Mod Podge
  • Brushes
  • Silver Duct Tape
  • White paint and whatever other color you want to use
  • Christmas greens, berries, pinecones, ect.

I bought enough supplies to make 2 wreaths, but you only have to buy enough for one. I found these green styrofoam wreath forms at the Dollar Tree. Because they were green, I painted them white first, but if you buy white ones, you can skip this step.

While the wreaths were drying, I cut strips of muslin to wrap around the wreath. I cut them about 1 inch wide, but they don’t have to all be perfect or the same.

christmas wreath muslin strips

I wrapped each strip around the wreath overlapping as I went. When one ended, I overlapped the next one and continued all the way around. Once I got to the end, I used a little bit of hot glue to keep it from coming undone.

I brushed Mod Podge over the whole thing. Since mine will be hanging outside on the door, this will protect it a little bit, plus it looks a little more finished.

When the Mod Podge was dry, I used painters tape to mark off 4 areas. I will be painting 2 areas turquoise and 2 white, so this will keep the paint from going into the other area. I will be covering the taped area later, so it won’t matter that it’s not painted.

I used a turquoise with some sparkle in it since it’s for the holidays.

Next I cut strips of duct tape and then cut each piece in half lengthwise. These pieces I wrapped around the wreath on the unpainted areas.

I found the perfect rope at The Dollar Tree too! I couldn’t believe they had this. It was even called Nautical!

I made some loose loops, 4 of them and then wrapped another piece of rope around the middle, securing it tightly.

christmas wreath nautical bow

I also tied knots at the end of the loose pieces so it wouldn’t fray.

I used a separate piece of rope to go around the outside of the wreath. I loosely wrapped it around the wreath and secured it with duct tape over the other duct tape. I matched up the ends and secured them too.

For the greenery,  I used 2 pieces of greens with berries and a small one with the rope pieces. I placed 2 going up and one going down and I tied them together with twine.

I laid the greenery on the back of the wreath and hot glued it in various places until it was secure.

Once they were attached, I placed the rope bow on the inside of the wreath and tied it on with twine too.  I also added a twine loop for the back. I hooked it around one of the bent stems.

I took it outside and hung it on my porch! It’s the perfect touch to my coastal home!

I also made one to go inside the house. I can’t wait to find the perfect spot for it!

I love how it turned out and is perfect for my front porch! What do you think? Let me see what wreaths you have made!
