Rustic Glam Christmas Fireplace

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! Only a few more weeks until Christmas! How is your decorating and shopping going? I got most of my decorating done this weekend after having a mess around the house for the past week. I kept it v-e-r-y simple this year. I used mostly silver and gold and natural items, like wood, greens and wire. I really like how it looks! It’s very calming and soothing. My trees are more colorful and really stand out. I have already shown you my Hot Chocolate Bar and my Silver and Gold Table, so today I am going to show you my Mantel of my Fauxplace.

I used many of the same types of items as I did on the table. Lots of gold, silver and wood.

I used many of Lauren’s books to fill in the space at the top and then placed a wooden tray with Shiny Brite ornaments in the center.

I have had this metal deer for years. He used to be kind of rusty, then turquoise and now he is silver! The magic of spray paint! I added a piece of burlap and a button that came from my grandma’s coat.

I love this little penguin! He is one of my favorite decorations to put out each year. I also love that he can stay out all winter!

I made these wreaths from small wood slices and added a green and white winter themed bow and a little silvery pom-pom to the center. I found the leather strap of bells at a thrift store several years ago.

The large wreath over the top has more wood slices with special Christmas words printed on them and some silver ornaments from Target.

Our stockings are hung on a ladder. I have added charms to each of our stockings that represent each of us. Some of the charms are from places we have been that year, or something special that has happened over the year. I have several Disney ones on mine.

Of course, I had to add my signature starfish to the mantel too!

Fall Cookie Decorating Tablescape

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!  Where the cookies are baking and everyone’s telling you decorate!  It’s the most wonderful time of the year!

Props to everyone who just sang this tune.

Now, I’m not someone who jumps from Halloween to Christmas, but one thing that I love about fall is decorating cookies.  And because my roommate Danielle loves to bake, and happened to bake a batch of cookies, I just had to decorate my table to decorate cookies!

So, here it is!

fall tablescape

We had a pretty fall tablecloth that had leaves all over it, so I went with a very neutral theme.  I had white plates and mugs and kept a knife on each plate so each person could decorate their own cookie.

I added chocolate and strawberry frosting to the decorating items and whipped cream, because you know cookies are the best with whipped cream!  I also found some candy that was on sale after Halloween.  They can be used for extras decor for the cookies.

So here is my table, I just need more items to decorate the cookies with!  But, I love how it is simple and cute.  Are any of you going to decorate cookies?

Halloween End Table

Ooga Booga!  Did I scare you??  Just Kidding 🙂

So my roommates and I don’t do a whole lot for Halloween, but I decided to do a  bit of decorating for fun.  So, with the help of my lovely mother, I bought some items from the Dollar Tree to decorate an end table.

So here it is!

Halloween Decor

The decor originally started the green cat that my roommate Hannah so lovingly named Randall and the pink BOO sign.  So I tried to think of of other things that went with pink and green.  Thankfully, black is a main color of Halloween, so it all worked out.

So I bought another cat like Randall who is much smaller and black; her name is Regina.  I also bought a small crow to add a “real” Halloween touch, I thought it looked good on sitting on top of the BOO.

I also had a spiderweb that originally had 3 glow in the dark spiders.  By the way, those spiders are now hidden around my apartment for my roommates to find.  But, I cut those spiders off and added a larger spider to make it a bit more realistic.  I also wrapped a black tinsel with silver skulls added in around the table.  Aren’t those skulls scary?

Finally, I added a green and black sign with some delicious meals for Halloween.  Don’t they sound completely edible?  I also added a black candle holder with a white candle.  It’s a nice juxtapose to the Halloween theme to have a candle.

So, that’s my decorations.  I love how it turned out and love how it isn’t too much.  It is nice to be a little bit festive with my roommates and not go too over the top.  Now, I hope my roommates don’t scream too loudly when they find the spiders!

Master Bedroom Reveal

I am back today with something new! Since we are relatively new to blogland, I haven’t had a chance to show you around my house. Not that you are going to see it all, because some of it is bad, really bad. We are talking half finished or 1980’s bad! There is lots of work to be done! But I do have the Master Bedroom done…at least for now! Things are always changing-just ask my family!

This is the view from the door as you walk in. I just changed to bed to this side of the room last month. I also painted it white. It had been where the dresser is now, but I was constantly having to walk around the bed to get to anything. So far, I am liking this better.

Master bedroom 1

I bought the lamp bases from Goodwill several months ago, but they were still new with tags, from Target. My mom and I just found the lampshades last week on our shopping trip. I added a sisal basket with some seashells and a large plate with the year of our marriage. There is also a picture of the family when the girls were small. Above the table are Lauren’s senior pictures. The long denim dress she is twirling in, she made herself! It was a team effort to sew through all that denim!

Next up is the dresser. We inherited this dresser when we got married from my parents, who inherited it from my dad’s sister. We figure it is about 60 years old. My mom calls it blond wood, but I really don’t know much about it. The wicker chair is part of a set we bought when we got married.

master bedroom 5

The little set of drawers in the middle came from my Grandma. It was my mom’s and her sisters when they were little and it held their doll’s clothes. I changed the knobs on it, but left the wonderful old paint color on it. A few other touches help to add to the beach look without going overboard!

Master bedroom 6

I bought this old fabric box from Goodwill. I thought it was a hat box, but do you see what it says on the side? “Silk Longs.” It must have held somebodies silk stockings!

master bedroom 7

On this side of the bed I used a set of blue wicker drawers for the nightstand. The box is an old cigar box and then I added just a few seashells to keep it simple. On this side, I have Haley’s senior pictures.  I love the one of her holding her baby picture. So precious!

I have an extra little corner in my bedroom that was added on after the house had been built. This extra space is what sold me on the house! I have a wonderful drop-leaf table here which belonged to my grandma, along with the chair. I added a sailboat and a mirror. There is an old suitcase underneath.

master bedroom 13

Across from the table is another old cabinet. I bought this one from a yard sale from a lady who is a big collector of old things. I have placed all my quilts in here. I love how they looked all stacked up! Some are old, but other are new. I just love all the patterns and how cozy they are. I use these for all different occasions, but especially in the wintertime.

Here is the view from this side of the room. Do you see the things peeking out from under the bed? Just a few random things that I had no other place for!

master bedroom 14

Let me show you one of the coolest secrets about this room. See this little piece of paneled wall? Well, if you pull on the hooks, it will open to reveal…

master bedroom 16

A shoe cupboard!! Do you see where Lauren got her love of shoes from! I love this cupboard! I’m sure my husband thought I was crazy, but this is the best thing ever!!

master bedroom 4

I hope you enjoyed the tour! You can check out Laurens bedroom/guest room here, my hallway and one corner of my living room here, and part of my dining room here and here. I will keep plugging along on my different rooms and one day I will be able to show off the whole thing!

The Messy Side of Life

I have quite a few projects going on right now and during the summer I try to get my scrapbooking done from the past year. I am kind of behind since I haven’t even done vacations from last summer! But my goal is to get caught up! This is the desk where I plan on scrapbooking.

Nice and neat.

Nice and neat.

My friend L commented how my rooms always look so nice and neat and how she wished her house looked that way. Well, I set her straight right away! Friend, I only move stuff out of the way or into drawers when I take the picture so it looks that way! Isn’t that the life of a blogger? So, to show her the real thing, here is the desk today! No, I didn’t add stuff to make it look worse, it really is this bad!

What a mess!

What a mess!

There is so much stuff here, it’s going to take awhile just to clean it up before I can even get started on the scrapbooking! There is stuff from Haley’s graduation (almost a month ago!),

Graduation stuff

Graduation stuff

A pile from redecorating my bedroom. I am not sure what I am doing with this yet.

More!

More!

Here are some papers Lauren used for a school project (a month ago), some clear page protectors and my paper cutter I used to cut out tags this past weekend.

and more!

and more!

And this is just a pile of random papers I need to go through! organizing the desk 6 Yeah, I think I have some work cut out for me! I will let you know my progress. Hopefully it will only be a few days! 🙂

A few days later…..

It’s done and ready to go! It really didn’t take as long as I thought it would. I just needed to put things in their proper places :). The graduation things are ready to be scrapbooked, the piles are no more, even the pile on the floor is gone. Now it’s ready for some serious scrapbooking!

Much better!

Much better!

Scrapbooking time!

I have more projects coming soon! Stay tuned!
