Happy Labor Day plus a Fall Roundup

Happy Labor Day to all those in the U.S.! I hope you aren’t having to labor too hard! This is the unofficial start to fall for most of us, so I thought I would share some of my past posts with you. Hopefully you will find some inspiration! Just click on the picture to be taken to the original post.

Pumpkins and Peacock Feathers Tablescape

I loved this one! The colors are so pretty for fall!

Dollar Tree Fall Rake Makeover

This is a great way to recycle an old garden tool and make it something pretty for you porch or patio.

Living Room Fall Tour

This was my very first fall tour! It’s funny how many of these decor items I still use! You don’t have to buy all new items for the season. You can re-use what you have, just in different ways.

Welcome Fall!

I had forgotten about this tablescape! I love how this turned out! I have these same plates on my table today!

Bringing Fall to the Back Porch

I really enjoyed decorating the back porch. It was such a pleasure to look out the back door and seeing the pumpkins and flowers.

Thrift Store Pumpkin Makeover

I always find ‘treasures’ at the thrift store, but they don’t always look quite the way I would like. I gave this one a little makeover!

Neutral Decor Book Page Mobile

This is a cute and simple project and you could use so many different items to make the leaves. I used book pages, but you could use paper or silk leaves like I did below, or even magazine pages.

Falling Leaves Door Hanging

I had all the items I needed for this project, but you can find similar items in your yard and the Dollar Tree.

Decoupage Pumpkin with Maps

This is another quick and easy project to do this fall. Again, you can use any type of paper to cover you pumpkin and personalize it to what you like!

I hope you enjoyed this round up! Happy fall!

How To Make Your Own Dried Flower Mickey and Minnie

Good morning! I hope everyone is safe today. I am in California with all the wildfires, but we are safe where we are. There is just a lot of smoke everywhere plus the heat. I know most bloggers are already putting out there fall decor, but it’s hard to think about when it is still so hot! I will probably wait for fall until September.

Today I am going to show you how I dried flowers and formed them into Mickey and Minnie! You know how I feel about Disney! I had never dried flowers before, and it is so easy!

I went into my yard and cut a few different types of leaves and flowers from various plants. I cut some ferns, leaves, feverfew, blue potato vine, and some white petals of a flower I don’t know. 🙂

I laid out the leaves and flowers on some pieces of wax paper and covered them with another piece.

I carefully laid them in a large heavy book, between the pages. I also stacked a few more books on top just in case.

Do you like my choice of book?

I left the flowers and leaves for a couple of weeks and then finally opened up the book and took out the pieces. I don’t think you really have to wait that long, but I got busy with other things and didn’t get back to them right away. I was so happy with the way the flowers and leaves dried!

I printed out a Mickey head shape just to help me figure out the shape and size. I knew my paper would be a 5 x 7 so my printout was small enough to fit on the paper.

I started with the outline of the Mickey. I laid out the pieces into the general shape. I didn’t glue yet, I wanted to make sure it was formed right first. Once I had the outline, I started filling it in with other bits and pieces.

I cut the fern into small pieces and also took some of the petals off the flowers to fill it in. Once I was happy with how it looked, I started gluing the leaves and flowers onto the paper. I glued on the base pieces and then added a few more on top to feel it in. I also added a couple of large flowers for a bow for Minnie.

I bought a couple of 5 x 7 black frames from the Dollar Tree to hang the pictures in.

I hung them in the guest room, aka Haley’s room, aka the Disney room.

I’m not sure why I thought this would be so complicated, but it was pretty easy! I can think of so many other shapes to use this technique on.

Here is my other Disney wall in the room. I have been collecting ears each time we visit Disneyland and hang them in a black frame. I love this gallery wall!

Thank you so much for coming by today! I hope you have a great week-end!

Here are some other Disney posts you might enjoy!

Bringing Fall to the Back Porch

Good morning! I know I have been away for a bit and I am trying to get back in the swing of teaching and blogging. So far, teaching is winning out! 🙂 I have all sorts of projects spinning round in my head, but by the time I am done teaching, I don’t have much energy left. Thanks for sticking with me though. I will be trying to get a few more projects out to you all!

I was looking back through my posts from last year and saw this one. I liked this one so much, I thought I would share it with you again.

A few weeks ago, I bought a variety of pumpkins, both small and big. I had to buy them at the supermarket, since our pumpkin patches weren’t open yet. Lol.

I used them on my back patio. I actually see my back patio more than the front, and I wanted to be able to enjoy the fall decor all season.

I used little white pumpkins along with faux leaves and acorns in a glass container.

I added a couple more pumpkins to my potting bench too. I made my acorn garland a few years ago, using the acorns from the oak tree in our old backyard.

There are so many ways to decorate with pumpkins all over the house or outside. I like setting one on top of a terracotta pot for the different textures.

I hung up this old window from the edge of the patio. I love the chippiness and the charm it brings to my outdoor space.

A big orange striped pillow, a soft throw, and a few pumpkins make this a cozy place to hang out.

Aren’t these mugs adorable?! I found these at #HomeGoods. They had dogs on them, so I had to get them!

Tucking a small pumpkin into your potted plants is a great place to add fall to your decor too.

It’s Fall! 10 Reasons To Like This Season

Good morning! Well it’s fall on the blog whether you are ready or not! I have never been a huge fan of fall, but I think it’s because I know winter follows. I don’t like the cold at all. But this year I decided to find things I like about fall and not worry about what comes after. So here is my list:

fall living room entry way

  1. Pumpkins-I love all the different colors pumpkins come in now, especially the pastels! I love all the different shapes too. They are so fun to decorate with.

2. Cooler weather-not too cold. Around here, it’s usually still warm during the day and then cooler at night which is really nice.

3. Snuggling under blankets-Along with the cooler nights, comes snuggling with blankets and pups and not getting hot.

4. Cute jackets and pretty scarves- I like having some new things to wear other than tank tops and shorts, but not having to wear lots of layers just to stay warm. I am excited to pull out some of those jackets and other cooler weather items put away from last year.

5. Lighting candles- Fall scents are my favorite! Summer just seems too hot to light candles, so it’s nice to have a few lit around the house again, especially because they smell so good.

6. Crunching leaves- I love to see the leaves falling and hearing them crunching under my feet when I go for walks.

7. Holidays- I am looking forward to the upcoming holidays and the time spent with family and friends. We make new memories and remember times spent together in the past.

8. Sausage and corn chowder- Mmmm! Just typing it makes me hungry! This is so delicious and easy. It is the most requested recipe in my house.

9. Having a fire and roasting marshmallows-We have a fire pit, so it’s nice to gather around it and roast some marshmallows and make s’mores.

10. Festivals- There are several different festivals and activities held around here that signal fall. Apple Festival, Calico Festival, Hot Air Balloon Festival, county fairs, and the list goes on.

Whew! I found ten things! That should carry me through. I am determined to just enjoy the season I am in. How about you? Do you love fall?

Neutral Decor Book Page Mobile

Good morning! Well, I am back to school today! I’m not sure if this is good or bad. 🙂 I am really praying for a good year, but we shall see. I have lots of plans for the classroom, and hope I am able to really enjoy doing activities with the kids. I am almost done with my post for my master bathroom, but I didn’t quite get it done, so I will share this one with you again and help you get a head start on fall. Enjoy!

I don’t have any instructions for you today, but this is very similar to the Falling Leaves Mobile I made a couple of weeks ago. I mentioned then that I thought it would be nice to add some crystals or bling to this, but instead I made a whole new one! 🙂

fall-leaves-with-twine-and-stick

I cut out some leaf shapes from a book I picked up at a thrift store. I used 3 different shapes.

bookpage-leaves-and-crystals

I painted a stick black and added a silver a black ribbon to the top to hang it from.

bookpage-leaves-blowing

I strung clear pony beads and some silver beads onto fishing line. This took the most time. It wasn’t hard, just took the most time of the project.

bookpage-leaves-hanging-mobile

The trick to keeping the beads from moving is to run the string or fishing line through the bead twice. This way you can move the bead to the position you want, but it won’t keep slipping. I actually ran the line through the silver ones three times, since they were heavier.

Once all the beads were strung, I put a little bit of glue on the top of the stick, and placed the line in the glue-very carefully!

I added more line and then glued the leaves on with just a little dot of glue.

And that’s it! Now I have a neutral mobile I can use all year long! Plus a little bling!
