Our New Project! It’s Done!!

Not only is this project done, but now I have more exciting news!! My daughter, Haley, got engaged this past weekend!!! I’m so excited for her and my soon to be son-in-love! Now I get to help with the wedding planning! I’m not sure how much I will be able to blog about, but I will try to document some of it. But now on to the show!

I went for the Bohemian look this time in the trailer. A lot of the pictures and things are from the old trailer and I found new places for them to go. As you walk in the door, you can see our Camping Rules. Most importantly, is Make Memories! You can see in this picture, we outlined the slide out with varnished wood. I love how it turned out! Looks so much better than the plastic pieces that were up there!

Just to the left as you enter the door are 2 swivel chairs by a big picture window. You can see here that all the brown is now painted white. I used Benjamin Moore Swiss Coffee for all the paint in the trailer. I used the original handles, knobs and hinges and painted them all gold. I bought the blinds from Home Depot, and the fabric and pom-poms from the 99 Cent Store. The seat covers came from Amazon.

The little table was a t.v. stand and Steve reconfigured it to fit over some of the hose and electrical hoses and wires that are underneath. I painted it and decoupaged the top. I added some fun little decorations to the top and the shelves.

Straight in from the door is the couch. I covered it with an old chenille bedspread I already had and some fun pillows. I used the same blinds on the window and fabric for the curtains. I love that I could use all different colors and it all looked good together!

I recovered the cushions at the table. I used velcro on the back to hold them in place. You may have noticed, but we took down all the valances over and around the windows. We added our own curtain rods and the new woven blinds.

I also covered the table with a marble look contact paper from Amazon. I used a regular width paper and I probably should have used a wide width. It would have fit better. I used black spray paint on the poles that hold up the table. You can see one of them a couple pictures above.

This is my favorite picture!! I hung it in the little hallway that leads to the bedroom.

It’s hard to believe this is even the same room!!! I absolutely love this bedroom! We removed the headboard and recovered it with a sheet. I also added the cute little chandelier above the bed. My good friend, Robin, made me the cute camping blanket at the end of the bed. Doesn’t it match perfectly?

I made this cute little Relax sign out of bits and pieces I had in my garage.

Isn’t it amazing how much of a difference paint can make?

Loving my flamingos!

There isn’t much storage in the bathroom, so I added this basket holder above the toilet to store a few things in. I found it at Home Goods, but I added the bits of material and pom-poms to give it the Boho look.

We have not changed out the floor yet, but it is something I hope to do in the future.

Doesn’t this look so much better?! Did you know that the pieces on the front of the fridge are just a thin piece of cardboard? I just slid them out and spray-painted them with chalkboard paint. Such a simple update!

I also used a peel and stick subway tile from Amazon behind the sink and up on the wall. I love how it turned out! It gives such a fresh and clean feel. I reused the blind on the kitchen window and used a bit of sheet to make the curtain.

We’ve collected magnets from all the different places we have visited. It’s fun to talk about the different places we have traveled to.

Using Vintage Fabric to Bring New Life to Chairs

Good morning!

I know I haven’t posted for a bit, but I am so happy to show you this project today! Thank you for stopping by! I am going to show you what a difference a little paint and fabric can make!

I bought these chairs several years ago at a ‘Junk’ sale. The seats were covered with burlap, but as you can see, they were very stained and dirty. I had bought some vintage fabric at an estate sale and knew they would be perfect for these chairs.

I spray painted the chairs with Rustoleum 2X white semi-gloss paint. I didn’t even take the burlap off when I painted the chairs because I knew the seats would be covered anyways.

I debated whether or not to leave the burlap on the seats and just put the new fabric over it, but I was afraid the stains on the burlap would go through, so I started to take out all the staples on the bottom of the chair. I used a flat head screwdriver and a needle-nosed pliers to take them all out. It definitely took awhile! Thankfully the foam underneath the burlap was still in good shape.

Once the burlap was off, I used it as sort of a pattern for my new fabric.

I used 1/4 inch staples to attach the new fabric to the chairs. I pulled the fabric taut and then stapled all the way around.

As you can see in the photo below, the wood under the seat didn’t get painted. That’s because the burlap covered it before. I was going to cover the chairs the same way as before, but then decided to not cover that part of the wood. I like the chairs much better this way, but I did have to go back and paint those front pieces.

I set up this little table last fall on my back porch. It was such a lovely, sunny day. You can see the chairs with the table set for two!

The sun was a little bright over here. The fabric is much more vibrant.

I set up this little sitting spot on the other side of the yard. Can’t wait for all the grass to start coming in as spring gets closer!

What’s been happening here!

Good morning! I’m so glad you stopped by today! I don’t have a new completed project today, but I wanted to catch you up on a few things that have been going on around here. I have some projects done, but got started on them before taking picture. Oops! I have some projects in the middle of completion, but I have one I can share next week! Yippee!

Here’s the project I will share next week:

I recovered two of my outdoor chairs with…shower curtains! I will detail the process next week. Don’t they look so pretty!

Project number 2: See the wall at the bottom right of the first picture? It was a half wall with posts on the top. Very 1960’s. My husband tore all that out and oh my goodness! What a difference! It really opened up the room! I love it! He also took the drywall off the header above the opening and we are going to try to make it look like a beam. I’m so excited!

Steve also made this plant holder. Lauren featured this on her Garden Round Up Friday post and we both decided we wanted one, so Steve got busy! I planted a couple of succulents and some basil seeds in the others. I love it by the fountain!

Recovering My Outdoor Swing Cushions (I cheated a little!)

Last week was our preschool graduation. It’s so exciting for the kids and parents. The children are all dressed in their little caps and gowns, with tassels hanging askew. They can hardly hold still because of the excitement! We make sure all the caps are on securely, everyone has pottied (they are only 5!), hair looks good, and we are ready to go. We walk in a line to the sanctuary and the kids get really quiet. They aren’t quite sure what to expect. The music starts, we tell them to smile, and off we go! Up to the stage, climb the stairs and find the right chair to sit in. All the while, they are looking for their parents and waving. Finally we start. There is the flag salute, some verses recited, a song sung, and then a surprise for the children. Haley put together a video of pictures we had taken all through the year and the kids had no idea! When it started, one little girl covered her cheeks and whispered, ‘What is this?’. Another one actually started to cry and came over to stand by me until she could compose herself. I asked her why she was crying and she told me she just couldn’t believe she was seeing herself up on the screen. Such sweet moments and memories.

Another sweet memory for me is this project. This is one of my highest viewed posts! So I thought it would be a great way to kick off the summer. It’s pretty easy, especially since I cheated a little, and maybe it will give you an idea on how to refresh your outdoor cushions!

My project today was to recover cushions for my outdoor swing. Now, I have to tell you a few things before I start. First of all, I bought the fabric probably 2 summers ago and never did anything with it. Second, I bought it to cover 3 cushions that fit perfectly on the swing. Unfortunately, they got wet this winter and were completely mildewed. Yuck! Third, which I have already mentioned before, I hate to sew! So let’s get started!! Ha!

So I had some other cushions I had purchased at a yard sale a couple of summers ago and decided to just make them work for the swing since I couldn’t use the others. Unfortunately, the fabric didn’t work the way I really wanted it to. In order to cover all the cushions, I had to have the stripes go across instead of forward to back. Not my favorite, but the only way it would work. I also was going to have the seam in the front of the cushion. Again, not my favorite, but I just went with it. I can maybe cover the seam with some trim later (yeah, right!)

I started by laying my fabric out. I did this outdoors since my house doesn’t have any floor space large enough, plus it was so nice outside. I placed 2 cushions on the fabric and then cut across, making sure the pieces would be large enough to go around the cushion.

Then I cut that piece into 2 pieces so I would have material for 2 of the cushions.

Once I had all my pieces cut I could start ~~sewing~~, I mean gluing! Here is where I cheated! I found this idea a couple of years ago on Pinterest and have used it several times since. I covered my other patio furniture this way and this will be the third summer using it. I have only had to re-glue a couple of places. I also glued the pillow covers on my front porch this way, here. With gluing, it is easy to change out the fabric on the cushions if they should get dirty, stained or mildewed, or simply because you changed your mind or color scheme (this is usually my reason!)

I laid the first cushion on top of the wrong side of the material and wrapped the material around so I could see how it lined up. Once I had the fabric where I wanted it, I made a short line of hot glue and laid the fabric on it. I did this all the way across the cushion, laying the fabric and pressing it down onto the glue. I did about 10 inches at a time, so my glue would stay hot.

Then I pulled the rest of the fabric over and glued it down so my whole cushion was covered from front to back.

Here it is glued to the back. I didn’t worry about making it all straight and perfect, because this part won’t show. It will be against the back of the swing and no one will see it. I like things to look nice, but I am not a perfectionist in how I accomplish this. Obviously, this could be done much neater and more professional if you wanted to.

Now for the sides. I folded the edges in like you would wrap a present. Then I glued the long side on the bottom up to the top.

This piece of fabric already had a folded edge, so it looked nicer when I glued it.

Repeat these same steps with the other two cushions. Not too bad since I had to improvise!

Now for the back. I had to use a couple of different things for the back. I used an old wicker couch cushion and two pieces of foam I removed from another cushion. This was going to be interesting! I measured the fabric long enough to include the foam on the end. I started this part the same way as the seat cushions, by gluing the long piece around the couch cushion from front to back.

I placed the foam in each end and then had to figure out how to add the fabric over it. I ended up cutting a piece that would fold over the end from front to back. I first glued on one side, putting the right sides together so it would make a neater seam.

Then I took the loose end and brought it up over the foam and glued it to the other fabric. I’m really not sure how to explain the corners, except that I tucked them in neatly the best I could and glued them in to secure. Here it is! There are definitely things I would have done differently. But because of the change of cushions, I just didn’t have enough fabric. I think it turned out okay, considering what I had to work with.

Since summer is quickly approaching and we have graduation and birthday parties coming up, I am just glad it is finished. I am probably more picky then most people in the way it looks-they most likely won’t even notice the mistakes!
