Easy St. Patrick’s Day Art

Good morning! I was hoping to have this out earlier today, but that just didn’t happen! But this is such an easy project, you can definitely finish it in time for St. Patrick’s Day! Also, it could easily be changed for other holidays, like Easter, which is just around the corner!

I started out with an old canvas I had. This actually had a picture on it and I painted it, but picking one up from the store is super easy. I also had some burlap squares on hand.

I cut the burlap a little larger than the canvas so that I had enough burlap to wrap around the sides. I did iron my piece too. 🙂

I used Elmer’s Craft Bond, which is a spray to attach my burlap. I sprayed it on the front and sides of the canvas and then laid the burlap on top and smoothed it out.

I folded in the corners as tight as I could and used hot glue to secure them.

Now I have nice smooth surface!

I dug through my fabric and found two green ones I thought would work. You could also use scrapbook paper or a thick wrapping paper.

I printed out two different sizes of shamrocks I found on a Google search. Then I cut them out and laid them on the burlap until I found the way the right layout.

I used chalk to trace around the shamrock onto the fabric and then cut it out with fabric scissors.

I used the spray glue to attach the shamrocks and then pulled out my buttons to add some accents to my shamrocks. I played around with them a bit, starting with green and gold, then some yellow and finally decided it needed a little bit of black to really stand out. If the button is the type with a shank on the back, I cut it off with wire cutters.

I used tacky glue to attach the buttons, layering some on top of each other and setting others into little groups.

I placed it on my mantle with a few other spring items.

What do you think? Pretty easy, right? I might even make a few more for other holidays, I hope you have a great week!

DIY Spray Painted Striped Metal Box

Good morning! Are you ready for another week? Do you have lots of plans? I hope it’s something fun!

I have my last camping post today and then it’s time to move on to fall! Can you believe it? I try to get ideas out to you a little bit early so you have time to try out some ideas or decorate before the season is over.

DIY Spray painted metal box title

I showed you this metal box during my trailer makeover here, so I’m going to show you how I painted it. This box was a black metal box. I didn’t get the before picture, but I primered it a couple of times and then spray-painted it white. This is just one coat, but I painted two coats.

I spray painted the inside of the box with Rustoleum 2X Ultra Cover Satin Aqua. Then I used painters tape and newspaper to protect the bottom part of the box and painted the top edge the same Aqua.

Here’s how one side turned out. It looked good…

This side not so much. I was in too much of a hurry and sprayed the paint too thick and then it dripped. I sanded it a little and was able to paint over it.

I placed the painters tape over more sections to paint another stripe. I should have used newspaper to cover the painted parts, because I tended to get overspray. So don’t do what I show you, do as I tell you! 🙂 Cover other areas with paper! It ended up taking more time than it should have.

I used all Rustoleum 2X Ultra Cover spraypaint. In addition to the Aqua, I used Real Orange, Navy Blue, Green Apple, and Sun Yellow.

I used these colors to match the shower curtain in the trailer, but it matches the whole makeover. I used it this past camping trip to store flip-flops in. This way it’s easy to grab a pair on your way out the door or place the shoes in when you come into the trailer.

It could also be used to store beach towels in. This way you don’t get the constant question, “Where’s my towel?”

Lastly, I used it to put dishes in to carry out to the picnic table. It helps to cut down on the trips back and forth.

I know this metal box will come in handy many times when we travel in our trailer. It can be used in many different ways. Okay! Next week, FALL! I can’t wait! See you next time!

Pink, Yellow and Orange Spring Porch

spring porch pink, yellow and orange spring porch title

Good morning! I’m a day late, but I made it today! Did you do anything exciting this past weekend? I helped out my animal shelter at the adoption event at PetSmart on Saturday. We had two different adoption events happening and ended up with 18 dog adoptions! So happy for these furry friends!

I was finally able to get my Christmas stuff (!) off my front porch and make it a little more spring like. It’s been hard to get out to fix it up between rainy days and really cold days, but we finally had a nice weekend, so I got busy!

I always change up my chalkboard for the season.

Aren’t these the boots the cutest? These were my daughters when she was three. She wore them EVERYWHERE!! Even to church! Only when you are 3, right?

This is my favorite bunny friend. She is definitely ready for spring and for some fresh carrots.

I used to sing this song to my girls when they were small. Some of my preschoolers sing it too and it brings back such sweet memories.

I used a Dollar Store scarf and tied it around a small pillow form. This is a great simple way to bring some color to any room.

I try to fill this wicker box with flowers for each season. I usually use Dollar Store flowers out here because they tend to get faded and dirty. This way I can replace them easily and not be out too much money.

It is supposed to rain again this week, so these boots would come in handy. If I was 3. And had little feet. 🙂

Thanks for stopping by today! I hope you all have a great week!

Mini-Makeover in the Guest Room with Canvas on the Cheap

Guest Room Makeover Title
Good morning! I’m a day late, but I have a great post for you today! Our family visited Disneyland back in May and Haley took this great photo of Walt Disney, Mickey and the Sleeping Beauty Castle. I worked with Canvas on the Cheap and they created this amazing canvas for me. I used it in my newly decorated guest room/Haley’s room. When Haley saw the canvas and the room, who had two comments, “I want the canvas” and ‘My room looks so grown up!”

When I edited the canvas, I made the whole thing in black and white and then colored in different areas. The castle, sky, flowers and the statue all have some color to them.

I love how it looks! The print even wraps around the sides of the canvas and there is even a hanger added to the back.

Haley had made this bench years ago from an old desk and a headboard. Since she moved into her own apartment, I could finally move the bench out from the garage, where it has been sitting since we moved a year and a half ago. My husband revised it a bit and I touched up the a paint a bit. It fits perfect in here!

Here is the rest of the room. The one wall is painted charcoal and I decided to stay with this color. I added some turquoise and yellow accents.

I left several of Haley’s things in here, so she didn’t feel pushed out. Of course, I want her to come home any time she can! She loves peacocks, but couldn’t take this lamp with her, so I kept it in here.

The skull pillow was hers too (obviously, if you know Haley). I added a couple of others to bring in more color.

I needed something small in the space between the bed and the wall and the stool was the perfect fit. I added a couple of books and a pitcher with some leaves.

My father-in-law made this bookshelf for my husband and me when we first got married, over 30 years ago. It has also been stored in the garage and I am very happy I finally have a good place for it.

See the cute floral basket in the bottom corner? I found it in the clearance aisle at Walmart. I snagged it up quickly! It is the perfect colors for this room!

Golden Yellow Fall Tablescape

Good morning! Are you ready for a new week? Just an update on the house…we got an offer and accepted it within 4 days of putting the house on the market!!! Woo hoo!! God is good! Now we just have to worry about the inspection, and hope nothing major comes up. We have been looking at houses and it is making my head hurt. 🙂 I know I am being pretty picky, but we will probably never buy another house, so I want this one to be one we will be in for a very long time. The right one will come along!

I set up a very simple tablescape for the blog this week. It’s a little difficult to come up with stuff to post since I am packing a lot of it up! But I do still have my dishes out, so you might be seeing a lot of place settings!

I used my white tablecloth and then used golden yellow and white napkins for the placemats. I have been wanting to try this out for awhile and I do like how it turned out. The plates on the bottom were the dishes I received for my wedding. They are called Blue Peony and are white with a little bit of blue around the edges and some flowers in the middle. I paired them with a grey plate and a smaller white plate. The napkins are kind of a greyish blue and I found some ribbon in my stash that was just the right color yellow. I used mismatched silverware this time. I have been picking up miscellaneous pieces from thrift stores when I see them. A mug for something warm and some iced tea finish it up.

fall-2016-yellow-gold-tablesetting

For the centerpiece, I used a ceramic pot which looks like a stump and placed some sunflowers inside, with a few other various stems. I put some small pumpkins and gourds inside a black candle lantern. I added a couple others onto the galvanized tray.

I think the secret to a nice looking place-setting is the layering of the different pieces. It looks so nice to have all the different shapes and colors.

I hope you all have a great week and see you next time!
