Pink and Gold Valentine Tablescape to Share With Your Sweetheart

Good morning! It’s Valentine week! I decided to set up a little table for two in front of our little faux fireplace. It’s a nice cozy place to have a special dinner.

Since this is Valentine’s week, I thought I would share a sweet story with you.

A couple of summers ago, my daughter and I were driving home on a very hot summer day, when we spotted a dog running loose in a church yard. Well, being the dog lovers we are, we turned around to go back. There was no way we were going to leave it out there.

After we turned around, we saw another dog running loose in the church yard too. I called my husband, who was just getting home from work, to bring some leashes and some water for the dogs.

My daughter and I walked over to where we saw the dogs, and started calling for them. The road next to the church is very busy, so we wanted to be very careful and not scare the dogs into the street.

One of the dogs came right up to my daughter, and when he walked up, another dog popped out of the bushes. Now there were three!

We were able to catch the two dogs pretty easily and placed them in the air-conditioned truck with water. The third dog was a little more difficult to catch, but she was just scared and finally decided she wanted to be with her other friends and allowed us to catch her.

We brought them all home and found the home for one of the dogs immediately, but the other two we ended up taking to our local animal shelter. They had no micro-chips and so we left them there for the required days until we could take them to our friends’ no-kill shelter. Both dogs were really sweet and we know they would be adopted quickly.

Once they were at the shelter, I was able to visit them quite often. The little girl dog went into heat and was put into the infirmary until she could be fixed.

I would go into the infirmary when I visited, take my girl out of the kennel, and just hold her in my lap. She was so sweet! She would sit with her head on my shoulder for at least 45 minutes and not even try to get down or run around.

Needless to say, I was falling in love.

I talked it over with my husband, but he was concerned about how our older dog would react to bringing another dog home. We already had our 12 year old and two 2 year olds. Do we really want another one?

I knew my husband was right and so whenever I went to the shelter, I tried to stay away from the little girls’ kennel. It was so hard! She would bark and whine at me every time she saw me!

I was trying to be so strong and tell myself she would find the perfect furever home. The first weekend in August, my daughter and I went to visit my sister for a couple of nights. On the last day, it was my anniversary.

Around noon, I got a text from my husband with a picture of a leash and collar at the shelter and my husband saying Happy Anniversary! I did ask, just to be clear, is there a dog attached to that? The answer, yes! My husband knew how much I loved that little girl, and had gone and adopted her for me.

Here is my sweet Magnolia Grace! Her first name is the name of the street we live on and Grace is the name of the church we found her at. She is still the sweetest girl and loves to cuddle. Just look at this sweetie!

Maggie is so full of love! She doesn’t have a mean bone in her body. She has been the perfect addition to our home. Happy Valentine’s Day!

Valentine’s Treats

Hello!  How did everyone’s week go?  Is everyone happy that it’s Friday?

This week we are getting some inspiration for Valentine’s Day sweets.  Now, I love baking and I’m getting prepared to bake a bunch of stuff for my coworkers.  So I was using this as some inspiration.  And now I’m hungry.  Enjoy!

Driftwood Wreath

Good morning! I’m back today with another driftwood project, or maybe it’s another wreath project! You can see my other driftwood projects here  and here and here and here. You can find the wreath projects here  and here.

I had the idea to make a driftwood star. My husband cut out a wooden star for me, but when I started to lay the pieces on, I realized I didn’t have enough small pieces of driftwood. So I poked around in my garage and found a large piece of cardboard I had been saving. I figured it would work for a driftwood wreath instead. I tried a few different things to trace for my circle, and ended up with this bucket. I traced the outside of the circle first. It measures about 16 inches.

Once I had the outside circle traced, I turned the bucket over and centered it as close as I could. Then I traced the inside circle.

I cut around the outside circle first and then poked a hole in the middle and cut the inside circle. Now I had a cardboard form for my driftwood to be attached to. The edges don’t have to be perfect, since the driftwood will cover it up.

I started with the bottom layer, using bigger pieces and laying them around the edges. Once I had it the way I liked, I hot glued them on.

After the bottom layer was secure, I started adding in smaller pieces to fill in the top layer. I kept adding until I could no longer see the cardboard and it was filled in nicely.

I felt like it needed a little something more, so I added one starfish to the bottom. I hung it on an old window I have sitting on my faux mantle. The perfect coastal touch!

I thought the song ‘Down By The Bay’ was the perfect saying for my chalkboard.

Now I just need the warm weather to match my new wreath! Don’t you just love that really curvy weathered piece of driftwood at the bottom?

Thank you so much for coming by today! I hope you have a wonderful week!

Cable Management for the Win!

Hello!  Can you believe today is February 1st?  Where has this year gone so far?  I swear yesterday it was New Years…but I guess not.

Speaking of New Years, how are everyone’s resolutions going?  Good…bad…have you given up already?  I hope not!  Keep going!  You can do it!

One of my New Years resolutions is to manage things better.  You know, things like time, schedule, money, and cables.  Ugh!  My cable management is terrible.  I just hang my phone charger and Fitbit charger from my lamp (which looks like an Eiffel Tower mind you), but my cats really like playing with them.  And, it probably isn’t good for the cables either.

But thanks to Blue Key World, this problem has been solved!

*This blog post has been sponsored by Blue Key World*

Blue Key World is a company that specializes in home and kitchen wear.  How cool is that?  They created these nifty little doo-dads that help you with keeping your cables organized.  But not only that, but they create some pretty sweet knifes for your cooking supplies.  Not impressed yet, just wait and see.

cables

They were kind enough to send both mom and I a pack of 6 cable organizers.  These organizers are tiny!  They aren’t very big so it’s perfect to hide behind a shelf or on the leg of a table to keep your cords in order.  What’s even better is they come with a sticky pad on the back.  Just peel off the sticker and BAM!  Stick it to whatever surface you need to!

sticker

Now I only used two, one for my phone charger and one for my Fitbit charger.  Just so that way they weren’t hanging on my Eiffel Tower lamp and falling willy nilly.  The hole that holds the cord is big enough for the cord, but small enough that your charger port won’t fall through.  And the matte texture of the organizer helps to hold the cords in place.  How cool is that!

bluekeyworld

Mom and I both tried them for a week to make sure that they worked.  We also gave my dad one for his phone charger, just to have an extra person try it.  Mom always complained about her phone charger falling out of her phone during the night and waking up to an almost dead phone.  But with Blue Key World’s cable organizer, she hasn’t had to worry about that at all.  Her phone has stayed plugged in all night long.  And my dad?  Not the same issue, but really enjoyed not having to try to find his fallen phone charger at night when he was ready to go to bed.

organizer

For me, I have one tiny complaint.  And honestly, it’s not even that big of a deal and it’s not entirely the fault of the cable organizer.  My phone charger has a matte finish on it, just like the organizer.  So my phone charger had a bit of a hard time sliding up and down through the small hole in the organizer.  But if the hole was any larger, my charger port would fall through meaning the organizer wasn’t doing it’s job.  But other than that, it’s great!  My cats aren’t always trying to play with my cables, they are more organized, and they aren’t just hanging around on my lamp all the time.

Overall, if you need a cable organizer, this is the way to go.  If you click here, this will take you to Blue Key World’s Amazon page where you can purchase one of your own.  I promise you won’t be disappointed if you purchase one!  Thanks for stopping by!

Living Room Idea Board

Good morning! Can you believe it will be February this week? Crazy! Even though time is going quickly, I am so ready for warmer weather. I am definitely a summer kind of girl!

Since I am stuck inside most of the time, I have thinking all the projects I want to get done in our house. We have lived in this home for two years now. We did quite a few projects at the very beginning. My husband scraped all the popcorn ceilings. It was a huge job, but I’m so glad we got it done before we moved in! Then we had all the ceilings textured and had the whole inside of the house painted. This gave me a nice clean slate to start with! But now, I have been thinking more about what I want each room to look and feel like.

We are starting with the living room this year.We will be putting in new floors. I’m pretty sure the carpet has been here since the house was built in 1968. Yuck! Here is a picture of what it looks like now.

Fall 2017 green, black living room

I have picked out a lighter color floor since the room isn’t used on a daily basis. It also has to blend with the existing floor in the dining room. Here is the one we are looking at.

We want to add 2 faux beams, new base boards and other trim around the room. Once the floor is done, this idea board shows what I would like to have in the living room area.

Right before Christmas, I found an Ikea Ektorp Loveseat on OfferUp. I couldn’t believe the deal I got! I had been searching for awhile and was so excited to find this. It is in perfect shape! Now I can plan the rest of the room.

(I have links at the bottom of the post for all the items on my idea board)

I would like to have 2 side chairs and I love the look of these Bashir Armchairs by Birch Lane Heritage. The stripe is subtle enough that I can still add other pattern and color to the room. I love the classic look of these chairs.

I desperately need a coffee table in this room. Right now I am using a small oval wicker table we have had for over 30 years. I love this Stoneford Coffee Table! It has just the coastal look I am looking for in this room! I especially like the “X” design on the sides.

The Beachcrest Sade Tree Floor Lamp is so cool! I really like the shades on this one. I like how it would arch over the loveseat a bit to add more light. The color of the Mercury Row Miltiades Table Lamp is perfect too! It adds just a bit of the turquoise that I love so much.

Of course, I have to have pillows! I already have a closet full, but the texture and colors on this Sacks Indoor Lumbar Pillow are so perfect! It has a little bit of a boho feel to it too.

I always have a hard time with artwork, but I really like the look of this Marine Sunset on Canvas. It’s not so overly coastal, but still has all the soft colors and look that I like.

Well, that’s it for now! That’s my goal for this year! I can’t wait to see how it is all going to turn out! I will be sure to keep you all posted!
