Green, Black and White-Fall in the Living Room

Good morning! Happy first week of fall! Our weather actually feels like fall right now! Amazing! Of course, next week the temperature goes back into the 90’s again. This is our typical fall weather.

I showed you my dining room last week, (you can see it here), so now I moved on to the living room. Since these two share the same room, I continued the same green, black and white theme.

Fall 2017 green, black living room

Of course, the mantel is the centerpiece of the room. I added several green items and added black ribbon on the chippy bucket.

Small touches of wood and lit candles help an all-white room feel more cozy.

Adding more texture and soft blankets really brings in the feel of fall.

I found this Threshold blanket at Goodwill. Can you believe they sold it to me for $1.99!!! I couldn’t pass up those wonderful tassels!

I also found this great over-sized towel with the perfect green.

I added my falling book pages leaves to the door in the corner of the room.

You can see my barnwood wallpaper wall in the background. I also filled my driftwood bowl with flowers, acorns, pinecones and a candle. Natural items are wonderful additions to fall decor.

I hope you enjoyed the tour today! I think I have most of my decor up now, so I will be sharing more in the following weeks! Thank you so much, readers, for stopping by today!

So Close To Amazing! Book Giveaway

Today is the big day!!! It’s book launch day!! And guess what? I’m doing a giveaway! Karianne was sweet enough to send me a signed copy of her book and now I want to pass it on to one of you! Just fill out the questions below and I will let you know on Friday, September 8. If you would like to order the book, here is the Amazon link.

Here is a summery of the book:

“This is a book celebrating the incredible, awesome, special individual within each of us. It’s also a book for anyone who has ever mismatched her shoes or trimmed her own bangs when a professional might have been a better choice or added too much soap to the washer and watched it overflow.

(Not that KariAnne Wood has ever done any of these things.)

A debut memoir from the beloved Thistlewood Farms blogger, So Close to Amazing is a collection of hilarious and heartfelt reflections on getting it almost right—and how, instead of giving up, we can choose to simply embrace our real selves right where we are. It’s a story of transparency and honesty and recognizing that perfection is completely overemphasized and overrated. It’s about grace and learning from mistakes and rejoicing in every victory, no matter how small. Because when you find joy in the “you” God created you to be, you’ll discover the amazing that was there all along.”

Grey, White and Blue Master Bath Refresh

Good morning! Well, I survived my first week back at school. Actually, it went pretty well! I have a rather small class this time and it sure helps with the noise level! Last year, they could hear my class all the way down the hall! Anyways, I think we are off to a good start.

I am back today with my Master Bath Refresh! I didn’t completely tear out the whole room and start over, but instead, tried to make it work with what was already there.

Here are a couple of before pictures. The paint was very white and and there was a lot of paint scraped off on the cabinet. The mirror and cabinet were circa 1970.Master Bath 2

The floor was part carpet (#gross) and part linoleum.

Now: the new and improved! Sorry the pictures aren’t the best. The room has no natural light. The walls and cabinets were painted Benjamin Moore Simply White. I kept the same silver knobs and handles. You can see I added one of my beachy bar stools, which is the perfect spot to set your towel or clothing. The hook above it holds my hanging clothes.

I finally found a shower curtain I thought would work with the blue tile. It’s really long so I had to hang it up high, but I love how it looks!

I was able to replace the dated light fixture and the mirror. I found the light fixture for only $20 on clearance at Lowes and the mirror I found at Hobby Lobby.

We added the 12 inch grey tile to the floor. What a difference! I love how all the grey, blue and white tie together.

I used the top section of a bed headboard ( I think!) to make the towel rack. I cleaned it up, painted it and added some black hooks. I hung a weathered seahorse above it.

I hung two floating shelves above the toilet and added a few decor pieces-a candle, a plant, a silver dish. I also found a Sand Dollar sign to hang above the shelves.

I found these great little baskets at Target to help organize all my bathroom essentials.

I picked some pretty roses and placed them on a silver tray to add some extra beauty to the room.

I hope you enjoyed the little tour! I’m sure glad I finally finished the master bathroom. It’s so much nicer now! See you next week!

Neutral Decor Book Page Mobile

Good morning! Well, I am back to school today! I’m not sure if this is good or bad. 🙂 I am really praying for a good year, but we shall see. I have lots of plans for the classroom, and hope I am able to really enjoy doing activities with the kids. I am almost done with my post for my master bathroom, but I didn’t quite get it done, so I will share this one with you again and help you get a head start on fall. Enjoy!

I don’t have any instructions for you today, but this is very similar to the Falling Leaves Mobile I made a couple of weeks ago. I mentioned then that I thought it would be nice to add some crystals or bling to this, but instead I made a whole new one! 🙂

fall-leaves-with-twine-and-stick

I cut out some leaf shapes from a book I picked up at a thrift store. I used 3 different shapes.

bookpage-leaves-and-crystals

I painted a stick black and added a silver a black ribbon to the top to hang it from.

bookpage-leaves-blowing

I strung clear pony beads and some silver beads onto fishing line. This took the most time. It wasn’t hard, just took the most time of the project.

bookpage-leaves-hanging-mobile

The trick to keeping the beads from moving is to run the string or fishing line through the bead twice. This way you can move the bead to the position you want, but it won’t keep slipping. I actually ran the line through the silver ones three times, since they were heavier.

bookpage-leaves-mobile

Once all the beads were strung, I put a little bit of glue on the top of the stick, and placed the line in the glue-very carefully!

bookpage-leaves-over-the-mantel

I added more line and then glued the leaves on with just a little dot of glue.

bookpage-leaves-crystals-and-beads

And that’s it! Now I have a neutral mobile I can use all year long! Plus a little bling!

Don’t forget to order Karianne’s book at Amazon and get some bonuses too!

Travel Theme Entryway

Good morning! I’m glad to be back this week! Last week was a little tough..we dropped Haley off at college! We had 2 car loads of her things to take. Thankfully, the school had big bins on wheels that we could load up and take to the rooms.  I’m not sure how many trips we would have had to take up and down stairs without that bin! Sure glad we didn’t have to find out!

I am so not ready for summer to end! I like fall too, but I just love the relaxed feeling of summer. I wish we had been able to do more traveling this summer, but instead I decorated my entryway with some California signs and other travel items. I pulled out a variety of things and then made a vignette on my door beverage table which I have placed in my entry. It’s the perfect thing to decorate for the seasons!

Travel theme entry way

I cut out the CA from some maps I had, the same maps Lauren used for her Travel Sign. I used a little tape to attach them to the window. Lauren sent me the Seattle postcard when she went on her road trip.

I love these signs! I ordered them from Groupon a while back and love the vintage look they have. I placed them in some black frames I already had and hung them above my hat and California tote bag.

I cut the hole in the globe to make a hanging light, but so far I haven’t gotten around to it. Instead, I rolled up a USA map and placed it inside. When the girls were younger, I placed stars on the different states we had visited. After it’s done here in the entry,  I think I have finally found another spot for it.

A bucket and some starfish remind me of the beach. Some California gardening books and a nautical book are more hints to summer.

I found this big basket at a thrift store and love the colors! It’s the perfect thing to take a picnic in at the park or the beach. A giant conch shell and a Welcome sign invite everyone in.

Hopefully this brings back lots of good summer memories! I think this is the last of the summer decorating. Bring on autumn!!
