What I Learned about Myself in a Month

Hello!  Today, I am proud to say that I have been living by myself for a whole month!  Hooray!  I haven’t died yet, or maybe I did and my ghost is writing this.

But during this month I came to realize some things about myself.  Things that I had assumed but didn’t fully come to know until now.

1. I actually don’t mind cooking.

I know!  I have always said that I don’t like to cook.  But, I think that I didn’t like to cook because I was afraid of people judging how I was cooking.  And so if I did something wrong or burned something, I would be humiliated.  But now that I live alone, no one can judge me!  So I actually don’t mind cooking for myself.

2. My bed is my favorite place to sit.

In all actuality, I am sitting on my bed typing out this blog.  Funny right?  I think I enjoy it so much because I am still not used to living by myself and don’t have to keep to my room.  I could go sit on the couch, but I have found myself happier sitting in my bedroom and watching YouTube on my laptop rather than on the TV.  I’m sure that I will move more toward the couch as I live here longer, but for now my bed is my favorite.

Parisian Decor

3. I can expand on my love of glitter because the apartment is all mine!

I have never been able to decorate the whole house since I have always moved in with people.  So now that I had the chance to decorate with my stuff, I have gone a little glitter crazy!  My blingy pictures are hung up and there is tons of pink sparkly items.  Huzzah!

4. I blame all random noises on my cats.

Yep…I mean…I think everyone does this at least once.  But I hear something fall over or something that I can’t see be moved…it’s definitely Target or Amelia, not the ghost.  Am I the only one who does this?

5. I have used all of my possible weapons as decoration.

Okay so maybe I like decorating a little too much, but I realized I have nothing to protect myself in an easy spot.  My frying pans are all hidden away in cupboards and my knitting needles are hid away in the corner.  My trusty heavy candlesticks…covered with mason jars and flowers.  Yep…maybe I need to redecorate.

6.  I absolutely love being by myself.

I was very skeptical about living alone, but I have realized that it is perfect for me.  I don’t have to worry about being considerate to anyone else in the house and I could walk around naked if I wanted.

No…I don’t do that.  Never have, never will.

But in all seriousness, I love being by myself.  It is scary at night sometimes knowing that I will be alone and my cats probably won’t protect me.  But I still like it.

Rustic Crate with Starfish

Good morning! Are you ready for another week? Are your kids in school yet or do they still have a couple of weeks off? I don’t start until August 28, so I still have a little bit of time to get some projects done. I have a pretty easy one today.

I have had this wallpaper border for longer than I can remember. I keep coming across it in my stash and think I should do something with it. Well, I finally came up with an easy project. I didn’t use too much of it, but at least it’s a start. A few weeks ago, I bid on a couple of crates from an online auction nearby and ended up winning these 2 crates, plus a few other things. I painted both of them white, giving one to Lauren, which is the one I forgot to take after pictures of. I did better this time. 🙂

I left it rough so it would still have a rustic look to it.

I cut a piece of the wallpaper to fit across the center of the bottom of the crate. I cut it a little longer and then I will trim it after it’s applied. Because this is old wallpaper, I had to get it wet first, so I dipped it into a sink full of water.

I had a spatula handy, so I used it to smooth down the paper and make sure all the bubbles were out and the edges were down. Once the paper had dried, I used a blade to cut off the excess.

I’m thinking of using this in my bathroom, if I ever get it done, but for now, I placed it on my bar cart with a few other summer items.

Robin Egg Blue Beachy File Cabinet

Good morning! Ready for another hot summer week? That’s all we have been having for several weeks now. Over 100 degrees every day. I think there are a few 90 degree days thrown in, just so we survive. 🙂 But I have been able to get a few projects done!

My first project was this file cabinet. Steve got this from his work place. They were getting new office furniture, so 2 of these were up for grabs. Haley took one for her room and I decided to make over the other one. First order of business was wiping it all down. It was pretty dirty!

File Cabinet Makeover

After a good cleaning, I spray painted Rust-oleum primer all over the whole thing, including the handles, locks and other pieces. I decided later to switch out the handles, but it made painting a whole lot easier.

I tried out this Rust-oleum paint this time. I had never used it before, but I love this color! My only complaint, was that the spray was kind of wide and seemed to take more to cover the cabinet. I was really glad I had used Rust-oleum primer first, because I’m sure I would have had to use more. The color is amazing though!

Here are the handles I decided to use. Here are some that are similar. I bought these from HomeGoods quite awhile ago thinking I would use them in the bathroom. Unfortunately, they didn’t fit and I didn’t feel like changing the holes on the cabinets. But they worked perfect for the file cabinet! I love the look!

I already had the pretty file folders and they go perfect with the color. Here are some other pretty ones.

I Moved………………..Again

I know what you are thinking.  I have moved, yet again.  There was a lot of things that caused me having to move.

But I digress.  I have moved and I am now living on my own!  Hooray!  Well…not completely alone; I still have my cats.  But they don’t really count.

Yep, so I am now by myself in my own apartment.  And I have air conditioning!  It’s soooooo amazing!  So here is what it looks like!

Living Room

The whole place is tile which is super convenient for cleaning.  I have the couch and love seat that my roommate was getting rid of, the cat tree in the corner, and of course a TV.

Maps

I also started to decorate around the TV to make a map gallery wall.  And so far, it looks fantastic!  I need more frames and maps, but so far it looks so good!

Kitchen

The kitchen has so much storage!  And I don’t have that much to put in the cupboards but I will definitely try to fill them up with food.  Or dishes…or random stuff.  And I was able to fit my table and chairs (only 3 of them) which is awesome because I wasn’t sure if it was going to fit or not.

Bedroom 1BookshelfParis Setup

The bedroom is huge!  I had such a small room in my last apartment and now this one is like, double the size!  I can still fit so much.  I love how we made the Paris wall, even though it has a British flag, and how Haley decorated my bookshelf.  It’s so perfect!

And the closet is even better!  I have never had this big of a closet and it is of course full.  I still need more closet space…

Hallway

I have a tiny hallway that I was able to add my last bit of artwork to.  I can now see myself even more times as I walk!

And finally the bathroom.  It’s just a standard bathroom, but it is mine and mine alone.  Huzzah!  And it has a huge storage closet so I can put all of my extra blankets and decor things in it!

So that’s my new place!  It’s not very big, but it’s the perfect size for me!  I think if it was any bigger, I would be overwhelmed.  Now, if only I could keep it clean…
