Easy St. Patrick’s Day Art

Good morning! I was hoping to have this out earlier today, but that just didn’t happen! But this is such an easy project, you can definitely finish it in time for St. Patrick’s Day! Also, it could easily be changed for other holidays, like Easter, which is just around the corner!

I started out with an old canvas I had. This actually had a picture on it and I painted it, but picking one up from the store is super easy. I also had some burlap squares on hand.

I cut the burlap a little larger than the canvas so that I had enough burlap to wrap around the sides. I did iron my piece too. 🙂

I used Elmer’s Craft Bond, which is a spray to attach my burlap. I sprayed it on the front and sides of the canvas and then laid the burlap on top and smoothed it out.

I folded in the corners as tight as I could and used hot glue to secure them.

Now I have nice smooth surface!

I dug through my fabric and found two green ones I thought would work. You could also use scrapbook paper or a thick wrapping paper.

I printed out two different sizes of shamrocks I found on a Google search. Then I cut them out and laid them on the burlap until I found the way the right layout.

I used chalk to trace around the shamrock onto the fabric and then cut it out with fabric scissors.

I used the spray glue to attach the shamrocks and then pulled out my buttons to add some accents to my shamrocks. I played around with them a bit, starting with green and gold, then some yellow and finally decided it needed a little bit of black to really stand out. If the button is the type with a shank on the back, I cut it off with wire cutters.

I used tacky glue to attach the buttons, layering some on top of each other and setting others into little groups.

I placed it on my mantle with a few other spring items.

What do you think? Pretty easy, right? I might even make a few more for other holidays, I hope you have a great week!

Vintage Coastal Farmhouse Advent Calendar

Good morning! I’ve lost track of what day we are on, but I do know I am sharing my advent calendar with you and I love how it turned out! But first, go here to go back to the 50 Christmas Ideas and see what the other hosts are sharing. Also, don’t forget the Inlinkz and the giveaway at the bottom of the post!

First, a little history about advent. I got my information from a wonderful blogger, Yvonne over at Stonegable. She is an excellent writer and designer! Please head over to see her site. She explains advent wonderfully. Anyways, the meaning of advent is ‘the coming.’ For Christians, ‘the coming’ is the coming of Christ. His first coming was over 2000 years ago as a baby in a manger. When he was a man, he died on the cross to save us from our sins. His second coming will be when he takes all those who believe and ask forgiveness, to heaven with him to live forever.

Most symbols of advent are a wreath with 4 candles and each candle is a symbol-for hope, peace, love and joy. Advent is a time to reflect on all of our blessings and to remind ourselves about the true meaning of Christmas.

Learning all this information about advent, I decided my calendar would have just 4 bags, one to represent each symbol-hope, peace, love and joy. The wonderful little bags I used were graciously given to me by BurlapFabric. The linen material is so beautiful!  But I am getting ahead of myself!

I started out with this cupboard door. I don’t even remember where it came from! But I knew how I wanted to transform it. I started by removing the hinges and then spray-painted the whole door with Rustoleum 2X Satin Heirloom White. I didn’t worry about the patched holes in the middle because I knew I was going to be covering them.

Once the door was dry, I cut out a piece of pretty fabric scrap I had to fit in the middle. I love the crocheted lace going through the fabric.

I pinned it to the right size and then ironed the edges.

I hot-glued the fabric onto the middle section of the door.

Next I cut a small piece of burlap that I wanted to center on top of the crocheted fabric.

I frayed a little bit of the edges of the burlap, then I stitched around the edge to make sure it didn’t keep fraying any further. I pulled out a few extras that were beyond the stitching after finishing the edge.

I ironed the burlap onto the shiny side of freezer paper.

I created the quote in the font I wanted on PicMonkey. I saved it onto my computer. I loaded the freezer paper into the printer and then printed out my quote. I couldn’t believe how well it worked!

I used spray adhesive to attach the burlap to the crocheted fabric.

I found this cute white pom-pom trim at Walmart and knew it would look great on here. It reminds me of little snowballs! I hot glued it around the inner edge of the cupboard door.

I found these knobs at Hobby Lobby on clearance. Look at the price! I knew as soon as I saw them they would be perfect for this.

I measured out the bottom edge of the door and penciled in even marks to drill holes for the knobs. I drilled the holes and then placed the knobs in.

On these cute little muslin bags I received from Burlap Fabric, I decided to stencil numbers 1 through 4 on them. I used black fabric paint.

I hardly put any paint on my brush and dabbed it over the fabric.

I love the vintage look of the bags!

I filled the bags with little special items and hung them from the knobs.  I don’t have any little children at home or I would have filled them with little toys or candy.

I hung my calendar right by my table, so if I was reading an advent story on one of the 4 Sundays, the bags would be right there. They make such a great reminder of the real reason for the season.

I’m excited to have this calendar to put up each year!

This project took me a little bit to get done, but I’m so happy with the results! Do you celebrate Advent? I would love to hear how you and your family celebrate!

Beachy Christmas in the Living Room

Good morning! Did you have a nice Thanksgiving? We had a relaxing day with my parents and niece and her family. Haley was home from school too. We took time to decorate our family Christmas tree too. It was a great way to spend some time together!

We can really start Christmas now, even though I have had my tree up for a couple of weeks already! I really love how my entryway, living room and dining room turned out! I love having a room that I can decorate and it pretty much stays that way. Today I am going to show you the entryway and living room. If I showed you the dining room too, it would definitely be picture overload!

I decorated my entryway with mostly neutrals. I received the ‘Have Yourself a Merry Christmas’ from Oriental Trading and it’s the perfect touch for this space. It even has little gold sparkles on it! I hung a couple of my sweater stockings, that I made a couple of years ago, underneath to hold little special trinkets in.

I used lots of gold and silver with one little touch of turquoise. I picked up the my different decor pieces from various pieces. I love the gold on the arrow and feather garland, along with the golden deer and the gold and silver Christmas Tree. Lauren bought me the tree last year right after we moved because we weren’t sure we would have time to put up our own tree. It seems I have been collecting bottle-brush trees these past 2 years, so I added a few of those to the table too.

I have been picking up these cute little birds from Target the past couple of years and he is perfect under the little dome of glass.

I had to add in my one little bit of turquoise!

On to the living room! I am so excited to finally get to decorate a room in coastal style! I even bought a new flocked tree to hang my beach ornaments on!

My mom found this sled at a Salvation Army years ago. I gave it a white paint job. I’ts the perfect place to keep a few special presents in.

I finally get to use all the beach and coastal ornaments I have been collecting for years. I added some starfish ornaments I found at Hobby Lobby, a lot of Shiny Brite ornaments I have picked up at thrift stores, and a few special pieces I have made or received.

See the fur blanket in the corner? It originally came from Target for $34.99, but I snagged it up at Goodwill for $13.99! I definitely wasn’t passing that up! You can find it on sale here.

I added a few things to a tray on the coffee table too. A golden deer, a small tree and a present make a nice little arrangement.

On my mantle, I kept my chalkboard and added words from a Christmas hymn. I added a couple of burlap trees, a lantern filled with turquoise and silver balls, more bottle brush trees and a cute little hedgehog. Isn’t he adorable! He came in a pack of 3, so there are a few more scattered around.

I made the tassel garland with some really fat white yarn. It adds so much coziness to the room.

My sisters and I each had a mirror ornament when we were kids. Each of them was a different shape. Mine is the diamond you see here at the top of the tree.

I hope you have enjoyed the Christmas tour! I am absolutely loving how this room turned out! I will be back this week with the dining room!

Gold, White and Fall Leaves Tablescape

Good morning everyone! Is your weather cool now or maybe cold? Brrr! We have had some beautiful days and even some much needed rain! It’s been so nice. One of the downfalls in our area, is that we don’t really have a very long fall. Our trees are just starting to change color now and then suddenly it will be cold. That’s it…all done. I just try to enjoy these days while they are here.

“The contents of this blog are sponsored by Oriental Trading.”

Even though the outside trees aren’t in full color yet, I can bring some of it inside to enjoy. I decided to put a tablescape together for a soup party since the weather has been cooler. My only issue was that many of my dishes were already packed away for the move. So here I was, digging through boxes I just had packed looking for various pieces! Thankfully, I had labeled the boxes fairly well and was able to find things without to much digging.

I love the Autumn Leaves String Light! This is perfect for transitioning into Christmas lights. It looks so pretty along the center of the table. I used another one along the back of the buffet too.

I used lots of gold and white and then added in several natural elements, such as the leaves, Burlap Mini Drawstring Bags and burlap ribbon and a Pinecone Votive holder.

I love these Gold Birch Napkins! They are nice and thick, but soft too, so they aren’t rough on your fingers.

I used Premium White Dessert Plates with Gold Edging and Premium Gold Trim White Bowls to serve Taco Soup and chips. Delicious on a cool night!

I love these Burlap Mini Drawstring Bags! I added a few caramels inside for sweet treat dessert.

I think this Pinecone Votive Holder adds just the right touch to a fall table. Actually, it could be used at Christmas time too, along with the gold and white theme. Perfect transition!

Corner News-April 16, 2016

Welcome back to Corner News! This is the time we share some random pictures and news that has taken place over the last couple of weeks!

I created this a couple of days ago. You can see everything looks pretty bare around it. We have had a lot of wind lately and I hate to put too much out because it will get blown away or full of leaves and sticks! My neighbor gave me the ladder and I already had all the buckets, so I just tied them on with strips of burlap. I hope to fill them with something pretty very soon!

Haley and I took Rozy to the vet this past week and we passed these sheep. There was actually a whole herd of them, but these were closest to the road. Rozy wasn’t too sure about these things. Her eyes were huge, she was shaking and the fur on her back was standing up! It was pretty funny! I’m not sure what she thought the sheep were going to do? We see small herds of sheep around our parts when they are brought out to do some grazing.

I also attended a workshop for a group of preschool teachers in our area. It is called C.A.R.E.S.-Comprehensive Approaches to Raising Educational Standards. Whew! That’s quite a title! I have been part of this for quite a few years. This workshop focused on math and I was able to get all of this stuff for free! It’s a great way to add to the classroom!

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
