Creating a Cozy Guest Room

Good morning! Are you getting your home ready for the holidays? I know it’s pretty early to start decorating, but you can start to get your rooms cleaned up and ready for guests. I came up with a few ideas to help your guests feel at home.

Start with soft sheets and fluffy pillows.

Be sure you have nice, clean sheets for your guests and enough pillows for them to use. After a day of travel or sight-seeing, your guests will appreciate cool, crisp sheets to crawl into at night.

Be Sure to Have a Place to Store Their Belongings

I don’t have a dresser in this room, but I have extra hangers in the closet and a hanging shelf in there too, so there is plenty of place for their clothing and anything else they don’t want to keep in the suitcase. I also have a bench in the room where they can set their suitcase or bag without having to use the bed.

Plug for Phone and Wifi Password

Have a plug or extension cord near the bed so guests have a place to charge their phone without having to search for a plug. If you have extra chargers, it would be nice to leave those out too. I have a small frame where I placed our Wifi password too.

A Chair or Other Place to Sit

It’s always nice to have a chair or bench to sit on when putting on shoes or playing on your phone. I know our bed is quite high off the ground and it would be difficult for some to put their shoes on while sitting on it.

Bedside Light

Remember to have a nice bedside lamp for your guests. They may want to read in bed at night and when they are finished, they won’t have to get up to go turn out the light.

Extra Blanket or Fan

This time of year, it’s nice to have a couple of extra blankets for your guests in case they get a little chilled. In the warmer months, I keep an extra fan in the room they can use.

Extra Essentials

It’s easy to forget a few things when we are packing for a trip. I placed, in a basket, a small bottle of shampoo and body wash, a couple of toothbrushes and toothpaste, along with a couple of towels and washcloths.

Tray of Goodies

As a special treat, you could leave a tray of goodies for your guests. It doesn’t have to be anything big, just a few things to make them feel at home. I included a couple bottles of water and a couple of granola bars, some Christmas magazines, and a couple of small boxes of chocolates.

I added a few Christmas touches for the season. Just a simple wreath, a stocking and a Christmas pillow add just enough festiveness without overdoing it.

Mini-Makeover in the Guest Room with Canvas on the Cheap

Good morning! I’m a day late, but I have a great post for you today! Our family visited Disneyland back in May and Haley took this great photo of Walt Disney, Mickey and the Sleeping Beauty Castle. I worked with Canvas on the Cheap and they created this amazing canvas for me. I used it in my newly decorated guest room/Haley’s room. When Haley saw the canvas and the room, who had two comments, “I want the canvas” and ‘My room looks so grown up!”

Haley had made this bench years ago from an old desk and a headboard. Since she moved into her own apartment, I could finally move the bench out from the garage, where it has been sitting since we moved a year and a half ago. My husband revised it a bit and I touched up the a paint a bit. It fits perfect in here!

Here is the rest of the room. The one wall is painted charcoal and I decided to stay with this color. I added some turquoise and yellow accents.

I left several of Haley’s things in here, so she didn’t feel pushed out. Of course, I want her to come home any time she can! She loves peacocks, but couldn’t take this lamp with her, so I kept it in here.

You can see her treasured Pirates of the Caribbean book, along with the beads she purchased while in Hawaii.

The skull pillow was hers too (obviously, if you know Haley). I added a couple of others to bring in more color.

I needed something small in the space between the bed and the wall and the stool was the perfect fit. I added a couple of books and a pitcher with some leaves.

My father-in-law made this bookshelf for my husband and me when we first got married, over 30 years ago. It has also been stored in the garage and I am very happy I finally have a good place for it.

See the cute floral basket in the bottom corner? I found it in the clearance aisle at Walmart. I snagged it up quickly! It is the perfect colors for this room!

Of course, Kiara had to get in on this picture business. Cutie!

Christmas in the Guest Room

Good morning! Welcome to another room on the Christmas tour! It’s been so fun to decorate this year, since I didn’t get to last year. I may have gone just a bit crazy! But I love how it has all turned out!

My guest room is decorated in bright pink, blue, green and some turquoise (of course). No matter how hard I try, the turquoise just seems to creep in! I kept all my usual pieces in the room and added some pink Christmas touches.

I love the little reindeer pillow! I found him on clearance a few years ago and he had to come home with me. The pink polka-dot pillow actually has a flamingo on the other side, but this side worked perfect for Christmas.

I added a small white tree to the dresser and then hung my glass dogs and cats. I don’t have one for all my pets yet, but the ones I do have each look similar to one of my own. Well, not the balloon dog, but you get what I mean. 🙂

Here we have Munchie on top (I haven’t been able to find a glass one for her yet), Maggie is the tan and white one, Scamp is the fluffy little guy on the left, Kitty Kiara, and Ezzy is the black on around the side. I need to find a Rozy, even though it will be nearly impossible, but I will keep on searching!

I added my tree garland on top of the glass cabinet and some more pink touches inside.

These pink ornaments are part of the ones I received from my dad’s mom.

I love this little vignette in the corner! It just seems happy to me! I found this flamingo paper last year and just had to have it!

Good morning! Hope you all had a good weekend! We had lots and lots of rain, which we do need so badly. Thankfully, it stops for awhile in between storms so the water has time to drain. And guess what!? It’s our 2 Year Blogiversary!!! I can hardly believe it! Thank you to all our wonderful followers and supporters! Obviously we couldn’t keep going if it wasn’t for all of you! Since I couldn’t get out much, I was able to get a little more done in my house. I mostly worked on the guest room/craft room/Lauren’s room. It’s basically the same as it was at the other house, but this room is much larger. So nice! I actually have room to stretch out a bit!

It took me awhile to go through the different prints they offered, but I finally decided on an old-fashioned bicycle. Even then, I had to choose between what color bicycle and what style. I finally chose black and white.

The quality of this canvas is so great! The background is very white, so the black bicycle really stands out. There is even a bit of a sparkle to it!

Even the back is finished nicely. There is black velvet all around the back edge to protect your walls and a sturdy hanger too.

Okay, on to the guest room! Obviously, I hung this CanvasFactory.com print in the guest room, so now I will show you the rest of it. It started out as quite a mess! I really hadn’t done anything to it since we had the painting (Benjamin Moore, Simply White)done. So I unloaded everything from the desk and put it onto the bed.

Then I started with my ribbon basket. I took everything out and gave it a good dusting. I did get rid of a few rolls and then secured all my other rolls with straight pins so I wouldn’t have pieces of ribbon hanging all over.

Much better!

What a difference a good cleaning can make!

I used the same bedding and curtains I had before.

I did change up the dresser a bit though. I used a lot of the same things, just rearranged them a bit.

I really like how fresh and clean the room is now. It feels ready to take on a new craft project! Slowly, but surely, the house is coming together. We have several big projects to tackle, and several little ones, but it’s nice to see some progress.
