Living Room Idea Board

Good morning! Can you believe it will be February this week? Crazy! Even though time is going quickly, I am so ready for warmer weather. I am definitely a summer kind of girl!

Since I am stuck inside most of the time, I have thinking all the projects I want to get done in our house. We have lived in this home for two years now. We did quite a few projects at the very beginning. My husband scraped all the popcorn ceilings. It was a huge job, but I’m so glad we got it done before we moved in! Then we had all the ceilings textured and had the whole inside of the house painted. This gave me a nice clean slate to start with! But now, I have been thinking more about what I want each room to look and feel like.

We are starting with the living room this year.We will be putting in new floors. I’m pretty sure the carpet has been here since the house was built in 1968. Yuck! Here is a picture of what it looks like now.

Fall 2017 green, black living room

I have picked out a lighter color floor since the room isn’t used on a daily basis. It also has to blend with the existing floor in the dining room. Here is the one we are looking at.

We want to add 2 faux beams, new base boards and other trim around the room. Once the floor is done, this idea board shows what I would like to have in the living room area.

Right before Christmas, I found an Ikea Ektorp Loveseat on OfferUp. I couldn’t believe the deal I got! I had been searching for awhile and was so excited to find this. It is in perfect shape! Now I can plan the rest of the room.

(I have links at the bottom of the post for all the items on my idea board)

I would like to have 2 side chairs and I love the look of these Bashir Armchairs by Birch Lane Heritage. The stripe is subtle enough that I can still add other pattern and color to the room. I love the classic look of these chairs.

I desperately need a coffee table in this room. Right now I am using a small oval wicker table we have had for over 30 years. I love this Stoneford Coffee Table! It has just the coastal look I am looking for in this room! I especially like the “X” design on the sides.

The Beachcrest Sade Tree Floor Lamp is so cool! I really like the shades on this one. I like how it would arch over the loveseat a bit to add more light. The color of the Mercury Row Miltiades Table Lamp is perfect too! It adds just a bit of the turquoise that I love so much.

Of course, I have to have pillows! I already have a closet full, but the texture and colors on this Sacks Indoor Lumbar Pillow are so perfect! It has a little bit of a boho feel to it too.

I always have a hard time with artwork, but I really like the look of this Marine Sunset on Canvas. It’s not so overly coastal, but still has all the soft colors and look that I like.

Well, that’s it for now! That’s my goal for this year! I can’t wait to see how it is all going to turn out! I will be sure to keep you all posted!

Welcome Fall!

Good morning! It’s September! Fall time, right?! Well, not really. But in the blogging world, we have to get our ideas out to inspire everyone. I didn’t want to pull out all the red, golds and oranges, so when I visited Michaels, I noticed all the pretty soft neutrals, like sage green, cream and blush. I decided I would focus mostly on those colors with a few spots of orange thrown in.

Come on in!

Since I tried to keep a more neutral color scheme, I added lots of texture. I added a woven basket, a burlap pumpkin, book page paper leaves, and a brass candlestick.

I did pick up this Thankful and Grateful framed print from Hobby Lobby. I figured it was perfect for fall!

Let’s head into the living room! I’m still loving having my faux fireplace in here and I love decorating it too!

I used lots of neutrals on the mantle, using books, chalkboard, cotton and even a spool of ribbon for texture.

Here’s a peek into the dining area! On my coffee table I created a simple vignette. I did add one turquoise pumpkin here along with some gourds. I just received this little ‘Grateful’ wooden block from a friend and knew it would be perfect.

I finished painting this little side table this summer and it was nice to be able to finally add it to my room and place some special pieces on top. I tied a few stems of flowers together, added a burlap pumpkin and a lantern.

I hope you enjoyed this little tour. I will be back next week with my early fall dining room. Thanks for stopping by today!

Something Sweet Valentine Tablescape

something-sweet-valentines-tablescape-and-hutch-title

Hello! Can you believe there are only 2 more days until February?! Valentines is just around the corner, so I thought I would share a Valentines tablescape and my ‘formal’ living room and dining room. I am making the most progress on this room so far.

*The contents of this blog are sponsored by Oriental Trading.*

I was contacted by Oriental Trading to put together something Valentine related and since I love dressing up my table, that’s what I went with. I’m so excited how this turned out! I can’t wait to show you, so here we go! Warning-there are a lot of pictures!

I started out with a layered place setting for each person. The little clear favor box holds some treats and is layered on top of a pink confetti plate. Next comes a silver chevron printed  scalloped edge plate and then a silver charger. I added a birch design gold and white napkin and a silvertone feather place card holder. I love these feathers! They look so elegant! For the place cards, I printed out the names on the computer and then layered them over some pink scrapbook paper.

I also received these silver metal lanterns from Oriental Trading. I love lanterns, so these were an obvious choice. I added warm white fairy lights inside to add a little romance.

I absolutely love how the centerpiece/runner came together! I was inspired by a couple of other blogs I looked at and couldn’t wait to try it myself. I started out with orange branches from in my yard. I layered in some eucalyptus from Michaels and then added the beautiful pink silk peonies. I love how full it looks and the greenery is the perfect touch.

Here is the table looking back to my hutch. I had a built-in hutch at my last house that was probably 3 times this size. I was able to go through all my dishes and get rid of a lot, but I also added shelves in here to display the rest of the dishes.

I added these fun garlands to the shelves too. I had the pink pom-pom garland and then added the silver flutterball garland too. The pink tulle pom-poms add just the little touch of pink to the decor.

I added some yummy sweets to my beverage cart. You can see its makeover here. I added some different layers with the cake plates and some cute little straws in the mason jar.

I found these cute little bottles of Martinellis and covered the label with a Valentine one I found over at How to Nest for Less. The pink and turquoise were the perfect colors!

I made some sweets too. They don’t look the prettiest, but they sure taste good!

I love having this capiz shell chandelier over the table! It adds the best beach look to the room. The metallic lily hanging paper lanterns make it look like a party! The gold and silver were the perfect accents to the rest of the decor.

Here is a wider view so you can see a little bit how the room is laid out. This would be the back part of the room. To the left is an entrance into the kitchen and table area. The wicker chairs at the bottom of the picture face the front window where the daybed is.

I have my faux fireplace in here since the family room already has a fireplace. I made this mantle from an old headboard and I love how it turned out!

The daybed used to be Haley’s and worked perfect here in the living room. Do you see who is hiding among the pillows? She loves it here because she can see what is going on in the neighborhood.

Mom, do you remember this little heart pillow? You made it for me way back when I was in grade school! It must be an antique!

New Apartment, New Stuff

Hello everyone!  Welcome to another blog to show you where I live and what I have done with decorating.

So, I wanted to show off the living room and kitchen in my new apartment.  It is a lot smaller than the apartment before, but it is still very nice and cozy.

Living Room Full View

Okay, let me start off by saying that the chair is probably not staying there.  My roommate Mariah’s brothers brought the couch and chair and we aren’t sure what we are doing with the chair.  But, besides that, this is the living room.  This is the view from the kitchen with the front door in the background.  We have a sliding glass door that is behind the chair that looks out onto our porch.  We have the couch, the loveseat, the possible chair, a bookshelf and a TV stand.

Living Room TV

Here’s the bookshelf and the TV stand.  The TV stand was here when I moved in, but I brought the bookshelf and my roommate Bailey helped to decorate it.

Living Room Bookshelf

The bookshelf is super cute!  I covered the back with wrapping paper to add more design to the shelf.  Some of the stuff is mine, where some was the other stuff was the other girls’.

Kitchen

And here is the kitchen.  It’s so much smaller than the last kitchen, but it’s not bad because there’s less to clean.  It’s just a skinny kitchen.  Nothing too special.  But one of my favorite things about it is the oven.

Oven View

I love the sign and the pot on the oven.  Even though it is a misleading jar, it still looks cool on the oven.  It also complements the small sugar jar on the counter next to the oven.  And the sign…I don’t drink that much alcohol, but it is a cute sign.

So that’s the new living space in the apartment.  It’s super cute and cozy!  Even though it isn’t close to being completed, it is still really nice to have a living space.  Oh, and if you’re wondering if I’m changing the cushions on the loveseat, I have fabric to make a cover for it.

Living Room Corner and Down the Hallway

My time off this summer is going by way too fast! I feel like I still have too much to get done! Remember the scrapbooking I was going to work on. Not happening! But I did manage to work on a couple of places in my house.

Back in February, I participated in a Finish-It-Up Challenge. One of the projects I worked on was to paint the trim in my hallway. I painted all the trim, plus 6 doors! Whew! That was a big job! I had hoped to get the walls done soon after, but it just didn’t happen. I finally found some light grey paint on the clearance spot at Walmart. I figured I would make it work. It still took a couple more months before I got the painting done, but it is finished!

hallway update 4

I also got a new rug! I had been thinking about a sisal rug, but then decided I wanted more color since it is pretty dark in the hallway. My mom and I went shopping and found this one. I knew right away this was the one I wanted! Thanks Mom!

hallway update 2

There was a part of the wall that was peeling off. Well, it was scraped and sanded and then sprayed with texture. Then I was finally able to paint over it. It is not anywhere near perfect, but it sure is better!!

I really like how this space looks!

hallway update 3

While I was busy painting the hallway, I was chatting with Haley and asked what she thought of taking the dresser we just took out of her room and using it as a tv stand. She said, definately, yes! So in the middle of painting, I took a break and we moved furniture!

Here is the piece we took out! Haley started moving stuff before I could even stop painting and get the camara out! Yeah, this was from back in the day of very big tv’s!

living room 1

After getting everything disconnected and moved out of the way, we took the old piece out. Boy, was it heavy! We could barely get it out the door! We managed to just get it out of the way and I said, good enough! Leave it there! It was much easier to move the dresser in!

living room 2

We got this piece from our neighbors (thanks P & G) quite a few years ago. It has lived in both of the girls’ bedrooms and been painted several times too. We had just moved it out of Haley’s room about a month ago, but I really like it in here! We put movies and Wii games in the drawers. I added a bit of my beach decor too!

living room 4

My last piece is this wonderful metal doggy I bought from Hobby Lobby! I have to have my little dog touches in each room!

living room 3

I hope you enjoyed this little update and tour! Next week we will venture a little bit further down the hallway to my bedroom. I think it’s finally done (for now!)!
