More Bedazzling Shoes!

Hello everyone!  So, I want to inform you that last week’s blog post was a lead up to this weeks post!  Hooray!  So, if you don’t remember last weeks blog post, click here and read it first!

So, my niece’s birthday is coming up at the end of the month, and being the awesome aunt that I am (cough cough  plugging myself for being the best aunt ever lol), I love making her gifts.  So, my niece is turning 4 and love Minnie Mouse.

But then again, I love Minnie Mouse as well, so we have the same taste in Disney stuff.

I decided that I wanted to make her a pair of shoes with Minnie Mouse on them.  Now, I had an idea where I put Minnie Mouse on the side of a pair of Toms knockoffs like my shoes that I did last week.  Unfortunately, Walmart does not carry Toms style shoes like I wanted.

So these were my two choices.

Now why these two pairs of shoes?  First of all, the brown and pink ones are just absolutely adorable!  And the white one were just simple.  I thought about the white shoes because then I could do the classic Minnie Mouse.  But then…my niece will be four and the shoes will not be white for long.  So….I went with the brown and pink.

I then went to Michaels and bought black, white, and pink gems to put on the shoes.  Here was my biggest issue…finding the same pink as the shoe laces!  Michaels had one package that had pink gems and it only had 13 gems in it.  But, with the help from mom I was able to gain more pink gems.

So I found an outline of Minnie Mouse online and printed it out to measure for the front of the shoe.  It took two or three tries, but I got the perfect size.  I then took a pencil and sketched around the Minnie Mouse outline.  I had to cut the inside of the outline to get the bottom of the bow.

And after a lot of sticky fingers and incorrectly placed gems (oops) I finally got the shoes done!

I think they are absolutely adorable!  I added some gems to the sides of the shoes next to the laces and a small line on the back of the shoes to add a little bit of extra bling.

They are so cute!  I hope my niece is as excited to open them as I am to give them to her.  They were so easy to make and I hope that she gets a lot of use out of them!

Fabulous Finds and Fashions

Hello! I have a few things to share with you today. I little bit of finds and a little bit of fashion!

I am not sure where this deer came from, but he is so cute! I knew I wanted to use it for a jewelry dish. I was at a thrift store last week and didn’t see any plates I thought would work, but then I saw one of the employees start to empty a cart full of dishes. I wandered around the store a little more and then came back and there was the perfect plate! White with little gold dots. I brought it home and then spray painted the deer gold and glued it on.

These next two outfits were designed around the shoes. My daughter bought these for me a couple of years ago for my birthday. Of course, I had told her to go get them!! Anyways, they are a little more difficult to wear because of the stripes, but I think I found a couple of cute ways to wear them.

First I went a little more nautical or patriotic. A white t-shirt, red pants, denim jacket and a white and red anchor scarf. I even have a red and white striped purse a picked up from a yard sale several years ago.

The other outfit is a little more neutral and traditional. Khaki slacks, navy blue lace top and a navy and pink scarf. I picked up this scarf at Disneyland this past summer and haven’t had a chance to wear it yet. I love it! I love this outfit with the little bit of bright pink.

There we go! Two new outfits for me to wear! I love putting different things together with the items I already own. I will see if I can come up with more for the next time!

Fabulous Finds and Fashions

Good morning everyone! Welcome to the first edition of Fabulous Finds and Fashions. We are very excited to be starting this and can’t wait to see what the future holds!

So we are going to be starting off with some fabulous fashions. I went ahead and took some pictures of some of the outfits I have worn to school so you can get a sense of my fashion style.

1. Comfy Plaid

Plaid

Now I know I wore a very similar outfit in the fabulous fall fashion post, but it is too good to not show again. This outfit is a Faded Glory men’s shirt that I purchased from Walmart for $10. The jeans are Forever 21 that I purchased for $20 (wouldn’t it have been funny if I bought them for $21?!).  The white tank top is Route 66 that I purchased from Sears for $5.  And I purchased the Qupid boots from a local discount store for $15.  This outfit is very comfortable and is something that I would wear everyday if I could.  But, that’s not exactly sanitary.

2. Sailing Out to Sea

Sailor

I love how this outfit looks!  It looks cute and it may be perfect for going out on a yachting trip.  The American Eagle jacket was purchased from a yard sale a few years ago for something around the price of $5.  The pink Danskin shirt came from Walmart for $10.  These are the same Forever 21 jeans (I like to reuse the same jeans for most of my outfits).  I finished the outfit with a pair of Maurices boots that I got for Christmas for $40.  Of course the sparkly boots, which I would consider the centerpiece of the outfit, are the most expensive.  Perfection? Probably.

So these are two of my fabulous fashions that I have worn to school.  They are cute, fabulous, and perfect for everyday wear.  I hope that you enjoyed this edition of the Fabulous Finds and Fashions and hope to see you here next time.

My Closet Makeover

I’m finally back!  Nothing against the blog, but work has gotten me extremely busy and it has been hard to find time to write something for the blog.  But, I got a day off from work and finally found time to get something together…

My closet.

Closet Makeover

My closet is atrocious.  For more than one reason.

1. I have too many clothes and shoes. I need to go through them and get rid of some of my things.

2. I don’t have that much floor space because of all the shoes on my floor.

3. Even though I have the most clothes out of all of my roommates, I have the smallest closet.  That would be thanks to having the wonderful water heater in my closet.  Yeah…

Closet Makeover

So I took time go through my clothes.  I organize my shirts by color, so I took out the shirts by color and went through a process of getting rid of them.  My criteria to keep a shirt was: do I like it, is it long enough (I’m tall), does it still fit, and is it still fashionable.  I tried each shirt on unless I knew for a fact that it still fit.  I also went through dresses, skirts, and tank tops the same way.

I then went through the tee shirts that I own.  Now, I am proud to say that I have a very large black tee shirt collection, but I got rid of a few that I know don’t fit or that I don’t wear.  I also had some smocks that I had for work before we got new shirts that I was able to get rid of.

Now, the prized possession of my clothing, shoes.

A Mess in my Room

A Mess in my Room

Before I started, I took all the shoes out of my closet and off of my shoe hanger.  When I brought them out into my hallway to put on my staircase, I made quite a mess…thankfully I don’t have a downstairs roommate as of the moment, so it’s okay to make a mess.

But here are all my shoes.  All 60 pairs of them.

So I went through them and was able to take my shoes collection down from 60 pairs to 43.  Honestly, I am pretty proud of myself.  It is hard for me to get rid of shoes.

I still have a lot of shoes

I still have a lot of shoes

So, here is everything that I am getting rid of.

And here is what my closet looks like now!

There is actually space that I can walk on the floor and put new clothes in the closet.  I have my work shirts separated from my tee shirts so they don’t get lost, and I am able to add new things if needed. What a difference!

Have you gone through your closet and what kind of stuff you have gotten rid of?!

My Skechers Makeover

Lauren’s work schedule has been crazy, so I am here again today. I have just 2 more days of work and then I have some time to relax and get some projects done, before heading back to school. I have quite a list, so let’s see what I get done!

Today’s makeover is an easy one. I did a quick makeover on a pair of Skechers that I have. I bought these awhile ago from Ross, because they were so comfortable! I have had other styles of this same shoe. The problem was, I just never wore this color! I thought about getting rid of them, but they are so perfect for school and so comfortable for being on my feet all day. I finally came up with the brilliant idea of painting them! I figured, what do I have to lose? I don’t wear them anyways!

So comfortable, just not the color for me!

So comfortable, just not the color for me!

I found some Tulip Soft Matte Fabric Paint in Marine Blue. I actually thought this would be more of a navy color and I would paint the stripes, white. Well, the color was a little more royal than I expected.

Hope this works!

Hope this works!

I painted 3 coats of paint on each shoe. They actually turned out pretty well! And the color looks kind of like denim.

Like this color much better!

I certainly didn’t do a very professional job, but the other teachers at work thought I had bought a new pair of shoes! Several of us have these Skechers, so we notice when someone is wearing a pair!

Cute!

Cute!

They are perfect for work and for running around town. I can wear this color so much more! Fabric painting will definitely become an option for me if I have other items I don’t wear because of the color or if they are just faded.

I will definitely wear these!

I will definitely wear these!

So, this experiment turned out well! I’m so glad I took the chance and gave this a try! Have you tried painting anything with fabric paint? How did it turn out? Hope you all have a great weekend!
