Summer Coastal Dining Room

COASTAL DINING ROOM TITLE

Good morning! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and were able to celebrate Father’s Day with your families! We had Haley’s graduation party on Saturday and she also bought a car that morning! It was a crazy busy weekend, but filled with good times!

I thought today I would show you a few quick pictures of my coastal dining room. I didn’t buy anything new. I just used what I had. I benefit of having most of your house decorated with neutrals or the same colors, is that you can move things around from space to space and it looks new and refreshed again!

I used a lantern as my larger piece and stacked it on a few books.

I added my glass fishing floats and lots of seashells scattered on a blue and white runner.

Summer To Fall Back Porch

Good morning! I posted this a couple of years ago, but we are at that time of year again! This was at our old house, but there are still some great ideas here. Enjoy!

Summer to fall Back Porch Title

Well, I guess it is time to face the fact that Fall is just around the corner :(. I really do love summer! But I like to decorate for Fall too! I decided to do a little decorating on my back porch, not too much fall, but just enough for a transition.

I used more yellows, golds, and oranges to go along with my turquoise and blues.

These chairs came from a friend of mine and I just spray painted them blue. I used a variety of pillows in the yellow and orange colors.

Over near the door I placed two tall windows and a piece of picket fence behind a basket with chrysanthemums and sunflowers.

I also pinned sunflowers onto a string of twine across the window frame that hangs behind the chairs.

We received this half-barrel from a friend a few years ago. I kept thinking i would plant something in it, but with the drought this year, I finally decided to do something different. I had the round piece of wood sitting out in our shop, so I painted it black. My husband added some little boards inside the barrel so the round piece would have something to sit on and would stay balanced if we placed stuff on top. I added a handle on each side. I found an old hula-hoop and cut it open and then cut it to fit around the circle. Then I added rope all the way around until it fit nice and snug inside the barrel rim. I love the rustic look of it!

Transitional Back Patio Succulents 2015

I found the little succulents at the .99 Cent Store. Lauren thought her Starbucks cup added so much more to the ambiance! 🙂

I added just a few pumpkins to bring in a touch of fall.

I hope you enjoyed the little tour! I am slowly getting the rest of the house ready for Fall too. How about you? Are you ready for Fall?

Fun Summer Ideas To Do With Your Kids

summer fun ideas title

Good morning! Are you enjoying your summer so far? Are you keeping busy, or more importantly, keeping your kids busy? I don’t usually write too much about ideas or activities with kids, but I used this when my kids were young and it was fun and kept them busy.

I started out with some ideas I found from magazines. This was before Pinterest, so you will have a much easier time finding ideas now! I found all different types of kid-friendly ideas, from baking to crafting to playing! I printed out the ideas on individual note cards.

Summer Fun ideas for kids

Some ideas were really simple, like this one and others took a little more time or material. This one would be a great science lesson. The kids can compare the bugs by size, color or shape. If they are older, they can even look up information about the bug.

Summer Fun Ideas Index Cards

I included directions or pictures with the card when there were some. This baking idea actually starts with a pre-baked cake, but you could easily use the baking as part of the idea. I tried to use ideas that had most items I already had in my home. I didn’t want to have to go run out and purchases things just to make it work.

Summer Fun Ideas for kids bake a cake

This is always a fun activity. Any shoe box will do. Kids can take pages from magazines, or photographs, or even stickers to decorate a box. Then they can store all the special memorabilia or crafts they made over the summer.

All kids love to play in the sprinkler! I included some fun games they could play while getting wet!

summer fun ideas play games

You can see I had a whole stack of cards. Some days we didn’t need them, but they sure were nice on the days where “I’m bored” was heard. I’m not sure we ever made it through all the ideas, but it was a great way to make some new memories together.

I would love to hear from you if you use this idea or try something similar. How do you keep your kids entertained during the summer? Hope you have a great week!
