Live in the Sunshine Boogie-board Makeover

Good morning! Sorry about not posting yesterday. We spent the weekend with my daughter and enjoyed a beautiful Southern California weekend! We were able to watch the play she was Stage Manager for and spend some time at the beach. It was great! We head back in a few weeks for our trip to Disneyland. Can’t wait!

First off, I want to apologize for the quality of the pictures. I am not sure what happened here, but I didn’t realize how blurry they were until after I had finished the project. So just bear with me until the end!

My husband picked up this boogie board at a yard sale and sanded it completely down.

It took me awhile to come up with my idea, but I knew I wanted to leave the edges the natural wood. I taped all around the edges with painters tape and then painted the rest of the board a turquoise blue.

While the paint was drying, I printed out the words I wanted to paint on. I used all different fonts for the letters and different sizes. It took some playing around with it, but I finally got it all to fit on the board.

I placed a piece of transfer paper under the words and outlined all of my letters with pencil. I have another post that shows how this is done just with pencil and no transfer paper.  You can see it here.

Once all my letters were transferred onto the board, I was able to fill them in with paint. I used acrylic paint and a stiff brush. After everything was dry, I went over it all with some sandpaper so it looked weathered.

So, what do you think?

Of course, it’s perfect with all my other beach decor!

I plan on using it on my front porch once the weather warms up.

Starbucks Blended Strawberry Lemonade

Hey guys!  I was going through old blog posts and found this one!  It is such a great drink for the hot summer and I want to save some lives!  Hope you enjoy!  By the way, I still love ordering this drink.

strawberry-lemonade

Let me start off by saying that this is a very popular drink.  So much so, that this is the drink I normally order when it is 150+° in California.

I don’t think the Central Valley has ever reached 150+°, but you get the point.

This is a no coffee drink which is perfect for those who despise the taste of coffee.  It is smooth and icy, which helps to cool you off in the summer.  You can order just a plain Strawberry Lemonade, but where would be the fun in that?  The Strawberry Lemonade, un-blended, is a nice drink if you want it to accompany your lunch or dinner.

But we are talking about the Blended Strawberry Lemonade, so let’s go and review that.

This drink is absolutely delicious.  It is cool and icy, so it has a slushie taste to it.  The drink will stay cool, unless you leave it for a very long time to warm up.  It is also a drink that kids could have since there is no coffee  This drink is also a fairly priced, less than $4 for a Venti.  And finally, you can add other flavors to this drink, like mocha and white chocolate.  My personal favorite is mocha because you then get a chocolate covered strawberry drink.

So when you go to Starbucks, you can go ahead and say you want this drink.  No need to bring your own recipe.  The baristas know the drink, so go ahead and order away.

I hope that you guys go out and try this drink!  If you decide to order this drink, please let me know what you think.  I am very curious!

Patriotic Front Porch Makeover

Have you ever had time when you had so many ideas in your mind, but can’t find the energy to actually implement those ideas? That’s where I have been for several months now. But, I am done with school for the summer now, and I am hoping some of the inspiration will come back. I was able to change out the front porch and get it ready for summer!

I love changing out this chalkboard for the different seasons. I wanted things to be a little bit summer and a little bit 4th of July.

I also had to add in a little bit of the nautical look I love so much. This pillow was actually made from a child’s t-shirt.

Lauren made this wreath for me for Mother’s day, just like she made my mom one. Here is the post where she explains how it was done using a pool noodle and flowers from the Dollar Store.

My pillow is missing a button! I wonder which state it is?!

I love these bottles! They look so summery. I used some foam to keep the flags upright.

I at least look like I am ready for the season! Do you decorate your front porch too? I would love to know what you add to look festive! Hope you have a great week!

Pink Flamingos = Summertime

Hello! Happy Memorial Day here in the States! I bet you all thought we fell off the face of the earth! Ha! Lauren is busy getting ready for her trip to Washington and I have been trying to get the end of the year stuff done at school. I haven’t felt very motivated either. I think I just have too much going on and the creativity just isn’t there. But I only have 4 days left (not that I am counting) and then I have my list of projects I hope to get done.

I did manage to change up my entryway a bit. I don’t know why, but I am crushing on  flamingo’s! I just love them right now! So I decided to add some pink and a few of my flamingo things. Then the girls gave me more flamingos for my birthday and Mother’s Day, so I changed it a little again!

Here is the first version. I draped some pink pom-poms across the top and hung the flamingo plaque I found at the 99 Cent store.

Pink Flamingo Entryway

I have had this pink bag forever and I added a white sparkly scarf inside. The Sunshine and Summertime printable I found at the Turquoise Home.

Lauren found the flamingo gift bag for me. I added some pink polka dot and some black tissue paper to it. A flowy, grassy plant and an oar finish it off.

I snagged the sand dollar candle holder off a Ross clearance rack. Love it!

A few rattan balls and starfish were added to a cloche.

Now on to the second version! I can’t believe Lauren found a turquoise tray with flamingos on it! Very unusual, but perfect for me!

I kept the rest of the vignette the same, just replaced the printable with the tray.

And Haley found the perfect throw! Blue with pink flamingos! This will go perfect in the guest room after it’s done here!

Just making these few changes has made me more than ready for summer! Are you ready too? Do you make changes around the house to reflect the summertime? I would love to hear from you! Hope you have a wonderful week!

Rattan Plate Holders plus a Nautical Tablescape

Do you ever have an item you know you want to do something with, but it takes forever to figure out what? That’s me. All the time. I have had these paper plate holders for years. I saw, in a magazine, how they painted them pretty colors. Ok, I can do that. But should I make them all the same, or different colors, and what colors? Oh decisions, decisions!

I finally decided on grey, because…I had the paint already. 🙂 Then Haley came up with the pattern idea.

The first step was to paint them all grey and let them dry. I always use the Rustoleum Ultra Cover. Love this stuff!

Then I wanted to put a  white stripe across the middle with a number in it. I measured out how large the stripe would have to be so the number would fit and then used the piece of cardboard to tape off the rest of the plate.

I taped scrap paper onto the plate with painters tape. This way I won’t get white paint on the grey.

They came out pretty well!

Now came the number. I took an old magazine cover and cut out a square that matched the size of the stencil.

It’s kind of hard to tell, but here is the square. I taped the stencil to the paper and then pressed it flat against the plate holder. I used turquoise for the numbers.

Once they were all dry, I was ready to set the table for a night of Al Fresco dining!

When I told Haley I was doing a nautical theme, she asked if it was different then beach theme. I had to think a bit, but yes, in my mind it is a bit different.

rattan chargers on a Nautical table

Nautical is more boats, ropes, and glass floats. Beach would be more sand and shells. At least that is how my mind categorizes it!! 🙂

I did add a few shells and my favorite whale to the table along with glass floats and some rope.

I love how the striped runners look under the plates. I got them from Target last fall.

It was starting to get a bit dark on these last pictures, so they are a little grainy.

I love how this turned out and really glad I finally did something with these plate holders. Now if I can only come up with ideas for the dozens of other items I have!!
