Soup Party Table Setting

As the weather is changing and getting colder, there is nothing better than having a nice bowl of warm soup.  And sometimes, people have a soup party where they invite others over to bring a type of soup to share with everyone.  And even though I will not be hosting a soup party this year, I wanted to show what my table setting would be if I hosting a soup party.DSCF5201

It is very simple, I know.  But it looks elegant.

DSCF5206

I have grey place mats at each place setting.  I have added a bowl, a small plate for bread, a small mug, and a soup spoon.  It looks so nice!DSCF5207

I added a nice bowl that has woodsy stuff in it.  My roommate Hannah put this together, so I don’t know where she bought everything from, but it looks really pretty!

DSCF5208

The next thing I added was a glass cylinder full of colorful disco balls.  I bought the disco ball ornaments from Grocery Outlet for $1 a package.  I added a book underneath the cylinder to add height.  Plus all of the colors look cool when I take the picture with flash.

The last thing I added was this decoupaged  candlestick that I’ve shown you before.  It goes great with just about anything that I decorate with.  It adds a lot of variety in the heights of the centerpieces.

So that is it.  That is my table setting.  Nothing super fancy, but it does look very nice and inviting.

Gold, Silver & White Rustic Glam Table

Hello! Are you ready for Thanksgiving Day? What do you usually do to celebrate? We will be going to my sister’s this year and eating lots of good food! I’m sure there will be some football watching, maybe some board games, and good naps. Sounds about right!

I’ve been slowly doing some decorating, but I did manage to get my table ready to go. I decided to go with a gold, silver and white theme this year. Kind of Rustic Glam. I picked up a few things that worked perfectly and put it all together.

The day I took the pictures was a beautiful sunshiny day. It didn’t quite give the cozy and warm feeling of the holidays, but it gave great light for the pictures! I used a white tablecloth and a white scarf with silver sparkles for a runner.

I started out with silver chargers at the ends of the table and then layered on white plates. I found some lovely grey napkins at Home Goods. I wrote names on a piece of wood and attached it to a wooden napkin ring. I used the flatware from Oneida that I received as wedding gifts many years ago.

The other place setting have a gold charger, but the rest is the same.

I layered items on top of a wooden tray I picked up at Goodwill. I love using trays for centerpieces. It contains everything, plus you can just pick up the whole thing to move it out of the way. I found the sparkly burlap tree at Target and the sequined starfish was from Kohl’s several years ago.

This serene deer came from Goodwill too. I thought he was so pretty and he works perfectly on the table.

Dining Room Christmas 2015 White Deer

The tiered dish is from my MIL and this is the first time I have used it on my table. I added some ornaments that came from Target and some sweets for after dinner.

I fell in love with this bird when I saw it! I knew it must come home with me! I bought it a friend too. It sits at the other end of the table. The arrow and feather garland was a must-have too. It just called out my name!

The mercury glass jar was from Haley’s graduation and I picked up some sticks from my yard and spray painted them white. Then just plopped them in! I also added a little green with some cut evergreen from my yard.

Dining Room Christmas Centerpiece

I really like how this turned out this year. I usually use a lot more color, so this was a bit of a challenge. It really looks beautiful at night with the candles and tree lights glowing.

I hope you all have a Blessed Thanksgiving! Enjoy a day of family and friends and food!

Fun Fall Fashion

It’s almost the end of fall.  There aren’t as many colors in the world, it is getting much colder, and it is getting darker earlier (making us think that it is midnight when it’s actually 6 pm).  And in some places in the world, this wonderful white thing called snow is falling from the sky.  If you are from California, the only thing that could possibly be falling from the sky is rain.

But, one of my favorite things about fall/winter is the fashions.  I am a jackets and boots kind a girl.  I have a whole slew of coats and jackets and winter boots that I want to wear all the time.  So, because of my love for fashion, I decided to post a few pictures for you of some of my favorite fall outfits.

DISCLAIMER! My roommate Hannah took these pictures for me and so the complete look may not be seen because of the fact that the pictures didn’t turn out that great.  It wasn’t because I didn’t want to show off the beautiful double-breasted coat, it just because they didn’t turn out.  Apologies in advance.

Number 1: City Girl Country Wear

City Girl in Country Wear

This is the most comfortable outfit ever!

I absolutely love this outfit!  I will wear this every day if I possibly could (unfortunately, people might get a bit worried about me if I did).  But it is super cute and I love the look.

The flannel shirt is a mens shirt that I purchased from Wal-Mart 2 years ago.  I always roll up the sleeves to give it bit of a more feminine look.  But if it is cold enough, I will keep the sleeves down to keep my arms warm.  I paired this flannel with a white tank top and skinny jeans.  And finally the boots!  I love the girlishness of the boots.  There are sparkles, but it still looks like a classy boot.  I received these as a Christmas gift last year and I wish that I could get the other colors.

Here are some pieces of clothing that look like mine that you can add to your wardrobe!

Do I look like a royal yet?

I love how classy this outfit looks.  I could go out on the town in it or I could go shopping.  Okay, maybe without the heels, but you get the idea.

I bought the coat from Target 2 years ago on Sale for $60!  It was a steal!  Okay, maybe not so much, but you get the point.  It is a beautiful double-breasted coat that nice and warm.  I have paired it with skinny jeans (again) and some white and black lace heels.  These shoes were purchased from a thrift stores years and years ago, but they are comfortable and cute!

Number 3: Riding into the Fashion

DSCF5036

If this doesn’t make you want to go out and ride a horse, I don’t know what will.  It feels really country western, yet feels kind of like a dressage outfit.  I think it’s the jacket and boot combination is what makes it look that way.

My grandma gave me this jacket on a whim.  I remember Haley going into my grandma’s house to drop something off and comes outside holding the coat.  I rolled down my window, saying “if you’re asking me if I want that, the answer is yes”.  It has a little bit of an old fashion look with the addition of elbow patches.  I styled this with skinny jeans and multi-colored boots that I bought from GoodWill for $12!  What a steal!

Elbow Patches are Fun!

Number 4: New Age Nancy Drew

DSCF5048

Now, if you are like me and grew up reading Nancy Drew, there were times you wanted to dress like her.  The really posh, fashionable, yet still functioning teenage girl who was a detective.

So I bought this jacket from a thrift store (shocker of the year!) and it’s Macy’s brand jacket.  It isn’t that warm, but boy is it cute!  I paired this with a white lace shirt and nude sparkly flats from Target.  Do I look like I could go out and fight crime in this?

Pink JacketNude Flats

Number 5: Rock Star Ready

DSCF5059

This outfit is my favorite outfit to wear out.  I’ve worn it to company parties, fundraisers, and school.  I love the versatility of how it could be formal but still casual.

Let’s start with the jacket.  I received this leather jacket as a Christmas present.  It is Apartment 9 and it came from Kohls.  (PS: it is still available).  The shirt is a high low short sleeve with sheer on the bottom.  I bought it from Family Dollar for something like $10.  The jeans are actually juniors that I bought from JCPenny’s a few years ago.  They are Arizona and boy are they comfortable.  I have them in blue and red, but now they are available in pink…I might have to buy them.  And finally, the boots.  I bought them from a flea market for $12.  They are extremely comfortable and look good with anything I put them with.

So here are some of my favorite fall/winter outfits.  I hope that you enjoyed seeing some of my favorite outfits and some of my favorite pieces of clothing from my closet.  Do you have a favorite outfit that you just have to wear every fall/winter?

Before I leave you, the raffle for the Mediterranean lamp has closed.  I would like to congratulate Manda on winning this beautiful lamp!  Congratulations!

DIY Headboard to Faux Fireplace Reveal

I’ve always loved the look of a fireplace. Unfortunately, I have never lived in any house, even growing up, that had one! I am so deprived :)! So after scouring Pinterest and all the blogs I follow, I decided I should try and make my own sometime. This past summer, Lauren and were at Goodwill and came across this headboard for only $3.99! Sold! There were two, and I probably should have bought both of them, but I was so excited to just find one! Then it sat for quite awhile. It always takes me time to think about how this is going to work and exactly how I want it to look.

Faux Fireplace Headboard

We took off one of the pieces that was under the shelf. I found some more pieces of wood at another Goodwill that had scallop across one side and decided that would work too. Yes, they are bright turquoise, but everything will get a few coats of paint.

Faux Fireplace Makeover Before Paint

I added a little extra to the bottom too. I had these ornaments from last year that I never did anything with, so I glued them up near the top to add some interest to the piece.

Faux Fireplace Medallion

After patching all the holes, I gave it a couple coats of paint.

Faux Fireplace Patched up

We added a thin piece of plywood to the back which I painted black. We also added a board along each edge in the back so it would sit flush on the wall since we have 6 inch baseboards. So here it is!

Faux Fireplace Full View

I am so pleased with how this turned out!

Faux Fireplace Reveal

It was different to decorate a mantle, but I am looking forward to all the different ways to style it.

Faux Fireplace Top view

Here are the Christmas ornaments I never used last year. I’m so glad I could find a good use for them! I made the acorn garland by hot gluing acorns from my yard onto a piece of twine.

Faux Fireplace with Acorns

My mom and dad found this box in a dumpster. Um, yes please! It’s perfect here for now.

Faux Fireplace Wood Box

It won’t be long until this is all decorated for Christmas. I am also wanting some kind of heater for inside so my doggies and I can cuddle up in front of it when it gets cold. It will be the perfect spot!

Faux Fireplace Fall Decor

I hope you enjoyed the reveal! I’m so glad it is done and ready to go! Now on to the next projects!
