Yard Sale Round-Up

Hello!  How is everyone doing today?  Did everyone have a good 4th of July?  I know I spent some good time with family and ate too much food.

But besides the 4th, my family is having a yard sale this weekend.  We normally have a large yard sale every summer which normally consists of stuff from multiple families.  Like, 3 or 4 families.  But we have been having yard sales ever since I can remember.  So, I wanted to share some helpful tips and tricks I found that may help you out with a yard sale if you ever want to have one.  Trust me, it’s a nice way to get rid of stuff and still make some money.  Enjoy!

P.S. There are only 6 posts because most of the stuff I found just repeats itself over again.  So these are the main things I found that I thought were the most helpful.

Headboard to Project Helper-Part 1

Hello everyone!  I am going to apologize in advance for how short this blog post is.  It isn’t super amazing, but I am going to show you the beginning.

So I bought this headboard from a yard sale a few months ago.  I thought it looked absolutely adorable!  I loved the look of it and I can’t wait to do something with it.

I love the details on the posts of the headboard.  It has so many corners on it, but the ball on top of it adds to it.

And finally, the slats on the headboard are so cute!  And I have a great idea for them!  I want to buy some hooks to hang screw into the slats to hang buckets off of.  In the buckets, I want to hold things like paint brushes and small tools.  This would be so handy for when mom and I are working on bigger project and need all of our tools in the same spot.

Again, apologies for such a short blog post.  I wanted to show this off before I paint it and finish the look.  It will look so much better when it’s done!

Corner News-Yard Sale Tips and Tricks-July 9, 2016

Happy Saturday! I can’t believe another week of summer has passed! It is going by too fast!! We haven’t even had a chance to go anywhere yet! Hopefully we will get up to the lake and to the beach very soon!

This past week my mom and I held our annual yard sale. How do we get so much stuff in a year?! It’s so crazy! Of course, we do get some things from other people too, but I know most if it was from my house. I have going through stuff like crazy and just getting rid of it. Anyways, we spent Tuesday and Wednesday unpacking and setting everything up. Thursday I had an appt. and we opened up on Friday at 7:00 am. Bright and early with customers waiting! These pictures just show a little bit. We had 8 tables (!) plus stuff out on the lawn.

Here are a few tips for holding a yard sale.

  • It gets very hot here, so we start early. People like to come early and then get on with the rest of their day.
  • Try to price as much as you can. We use masking tape because we never find that the stickers stick very well in our hot weather.
  • Price to sell! I know things cost a lot in the store, but this is a yard sale.  Many things can also be purchased at the dollar stores. We just want to sell it and get a little bit of cash.  If I go to yard sales and I hear high prices, I usually walk away.

  • Use tape, rubber-bands, boxes or safety pins to keep groups together.
  • We hold our sale for two days, so the first day we are usually a little higher. The second day, anything goes! Make us a deal!
  • We advertise on Craigslist and put out signs on the corners. We aren’t allowed to attach signs to the telephone poles, so we take an empty box, attach signs and put a brick in the box so it doesn’t blow out into the road.

  • Try to have as much up on tables or hanging as possible. I don’t like it when I have to bend or squat down to go through clothes, so we use lots of table and a hanging rack. We do have larger items on the lawn, but not stuff you have to spend a lot of time looking through.
  • We use fanny packs and purses to keep our money in. This way we can wander around helping customers or cleaning up tables and take money at the same time.

Even though setting up for the yard sale is a lot of work, I enjoy the time I get to spend with my mom and dad and my girls. We have lots of good memories from these days. I hope these tips help you out at your next yard sale!! It can be a great way to clean out your home and make a little extra money!!

Cleaning Out for a New Apartment

opening

Hello everyone!  I am excited to announce that I will be moving in July!  Okay, maybe not super excited because that means that I have to move all of my stuff.  But, I will be moving to a new apartment when my lease is up and I am excited.

So, of course, I have to go through all of my stuff to see what I need and what I don’t need.

I started small with these bags that were under my bed.

Edit Under The Bed

They had a bunch of fabric and shoes that I used for a small project that I don’t do anymore in them.  So, of course, I don’t need those anymore and pulled them out to sell at our family’s yard sale this summer.  I now have my yarn under the bed instead of at the foot of the bed like I had been doing.

Next, I went through my shoes.

Edit Shoes

Here’s the deal.  I have a lot of shoes.  So to get rid of 7 pairs is a miracle.  I had two boxes full of shoes in my closet along with random shoes in my closet and a rack hanging on my closet door.  So, I went through all of my shoes and got rid of some of them.  Some will be sold on Poshmark and others will be sold at the yard sale.

Then I went through purses.  Here’s the before.

And here’s the after!

Edit Purses After

I got rid of 3 purses.  This is like shoes, I love purses.  So getting rid of purses is hard to do.  So getting rid of 3 is a big deal.

And then I went through my hall closet again and found some things to get rid of like a mesh hamper and some hats that I don’t wear anymore.  I also got rid of all of my CD’s because they are all on my iTunes account.  And of course some more clothes.

And here’s the end result!

Yeah…so I got rid of a lot of stuff.  And of course I need to get rid of more stuff before I move.  But, I think that it’s a good start and of course I will show you my new apartment when I move!
