Corner News-December 18, 2015

Yay! My last Friday for a couple of weeks! Of course, I already have too much planned for my vacation and probably most of it won’t get done. Oh well! I will just enjoy the time I have.

In other Corner News, Haley and I moved the Christmas Tree to a new corner this week! Ha! Have you ever done this? Since we put up the fireplace, I rearranged the room and then there didn’t seem to be a good place for the tree. I had it one place and it finally drove me so crazy I had to move it. It’s much better now! 🙂 (and so am I!)

Here are a couple of my thrift store finds this week. I also found a Nate Berkus tray for $5.00, and a new lampshade. This metal basket with a liner is filled with silvery leaves. Can’t wait to see what else will work in here!

I had my husband cut these wood slices last year and have used them so many different way. I hot glued tacks to the back so they can be rearranged easily. Here are a couple more ideas. I filled a glass candle holder with some ornaments and added a couple of Turkmenistan Camels to the display.

I hope your holiday is filled with joy and time spent with family and friends!

Gold, Silver & White Rustic Glam Table

Hello! Are you ready for Thanksgiving Day? What do you usually do to celebrate? We will be going to my sister’s this year and eating lots of good food! I’m sure there will be some football watching, maybe some board games, and good naps. Sounds about right!

I’ve been slowly doing some decorating, but I did manage to get my table ready to go. I decided to go with a gold, silver and white theme this year. Kind of Rustic Glam. I picked up a few things that worked perfectly and put it all together.

The day I took the pictures was a beautiful sunshiny day. It didn’t quite give the cozy and warm feeling of the holidays, but it gave great light for the pictures! I used a white tablecloth and a white scarf with silver sparkles for a runner.

I started out with silver chargers at the ends of the table and then layered on white plates. I found some lovely grey napkins at Home Goods. I wrote names on a piece of wood and attached it to a wooden napkin ring. I used the flatware from Oneida that I received as wedding gifts many years ago.

The other place setting have a gold charger, but the rest is the same.

I layered items on top of a wooden tray I picked up at Goodwill. I love using trays for centerpieces. It contains everything, plus you can just pick up the whole thing to move it out of the way. I found the sparkly burlap tree at Target and the sequined starfish was from Kohl’s several years ago.

This serene deer came from Goodwill too. I thought he was so pretty and he works perfectly on the table.

The tiered dish is from my MIL and this is the first time I have used it on my table. I added some ornaments that came from Target and some sweets for after dinner.

I fell in love with this bird when I saw it! I knew it must come home with me! I bought it a friend too. It sits at the other end of the table. The arrow and feather garland was a must-have too. It just called out my name!

The mercury glass jar was from Haley’s graduation and I picked up some sticks from my yard and spray painted them white. Then just plopped them in! I also added a little green with some cut evergreen from my yard.

I really like how this turned out this year. I usually use a lot more color, so this was a bit of a challenge. It really looks beautiful at night with the candles and tree lights glowing.

I hope you all have a Blessed Thanksgiving! Enjoy a day of family and friends and food!

Corner News-November 20, 2015

Happy Friday! This week is a bit better than last. Last week Friday, I didn’t feel so well :(. It wasn’t terrible, just blah and yukky. Glad that’s over with! Next week at school we have our Thanksgiving Feast and the kids are very excited! We have been practicing a couple of verses and the Gobble, gobble song to perform for their parents. Then it’s time to eat!

Rozy has already been eating her share of pumpkin! She created this nice hole and then kept making it bigger until she could get her whole head inside! She would eat some pumpkin and spit out the seeds.

While Rozy is still celebrating fall, I started wrapping presents. My closet was overflowing and I wasn’t even sure what all I had anymore! In fact, I found some things for the girls I had completely forgotten about!! But I have my list now, and it’s all organized. I bought some wrapping paper last year, but I tried using up the old stuff I had.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! If you are preparing to travel for the holiday, be safe. Enjoy your time with your families!

A Mini Vacation to Lodi

So, I am a very busy person.  I go to school 2 days a week and work the other 5.  URGH!  I have no time to myself!

But, before life took over, I was able to take a mini vacation to see a friend of mine.

This summer, my friend Sara had invited me to Lodi to take a mini vacation.  So, we picked a weekend that I would drive to Lodi and visit her and her family.  So on September 11th, after work and school, I drove 2 1/2 hours to Sara’s house.  When I arrived, all we did was relaxed the night away.  I was tired, so it was awesome for me.

But the next day was full of activity.  We woke up early and drove from Lodi to Sacramento  to go shopping!  We visited Arden Fair mall and spent about 2 hours there.  And yes, I did buy some things: Tsum Tsums for my nieces, Disney bows for myself, and two pairs of shorts from Torrid that were on sale.  Hooray!

The next thing that we did was go to lunch at a place called The Squeeze.  It was a lot of food, but it definitely was delicious.

Next, Sara and I went to the Stockton Fairgrounds where her mom and dad were serving beer at the horse races.  Now, we were more interested in watching the races and wondering if the pretty one was going to win, but we still had a lot of fun out there.  Also, beer is disgusting…

Finally, we went to a local winery and went wine tasting.  The place was very nice and the people there were very sweet.  And, the wine was good.  Maybe a bit too bitter for me, but I will admit that I am a bit of a lightweight when it comes to alcohol.

The next day we went to the local zoo.  To be honest, the zoo wasn’t that great.  A lot of birds and lemurs and monkeys, and a snow leopard.  A snow leopard without snow…

And the last thing that we did was do some more shopping in Stockton.  We didn’t buy anything, but it was still fun.

And this was the end of the vacation.  It was sad to leave, but at the same time I was ready to go home.  I wanted to sleep in my own bed and relax, but I didn’t want to get back to the normality of life.

So thanks to Sara and her family for letting me stay with them.  Thanks for giving me a great weekend off from life.  But now, back to the hustle and bustle of school and work.  Yeah….
