Pink, Yellow and Orange Spring Porch

Good morning! I’m a day late, but I made it today! Did you do anything exciting this past weekend? I helped out my animal shelter at the adoption event at PetSmart on Saturday. We had two different adoption events happening and ended up with 18 dog adoptions! So happy for these furry friends!

I was finally able to get my Christmas stuff (!) off my front porch and make it a little more spring like. It’s been hard to get out to fix it up between rainy days and really cold days, but we finally had a nice weekend, so I got busy!

I always change up my chalkboard for the season.

Aren’t these the boots the cutest? These were my daughters when she was three. She wore them EVERYWHERE!! Even to church! Only when you are 3, right?

This is my favorite bunny friend. She is definitely ready for spring and for some fresh carrots.

I used to sing this song to my girls when they were small. Some of my preschoolers sing it too and it brings back such sweet memories.

I used a Dollar Store scarf and tied it around a small pillow form. This is a great simple way to bring some color to any room.

I try to fill this wicker box with flowers for each season. I usually use Dollar Store flowers out here because they tend to get faded and dirty. This way I can replace them easily and not be out too much money.

It is supposed to rain again this week, so these boots would come in handy. If I was 3. And had little feet. ūüôā

Thanks for stopping by today! I hope you all have a great week!

Halloween Wooden Cat Box

Hey everyone!  Fall is in full swing and Halloween is almost here.

And what is something that goes with Halloween besides witches hats, pumpkins, and ghosts? ¬†Well…black cats of course!

Do you remember when mom and I went to Home Depot a few weeks ago and made wooden boxes?  She shaped hers like a pumpkin and I shaped mine like a cat.  Guess what?  I finished mine!  Here it is!

So I painted the cat black and painted the front of the box in chalkboard.  I added the word BOO for the season of Halloween.

I also added flowers and a red bow to make the cat more festive and more like a cat.  cat box

I love how this turned out! ¬†It turned out cute and I am able to change it for the different seasons. ¬†I can’t wait to see what I make the next time I do a Home Depot project…which is tonight!

Pumpkins, and Leaves and Acorns, Oh My!

Happy Fall! Only two more days and we are officially in Autumn! Of course, it is still 90 degrees here! We really don’t get much of a fall and it usually doesn’t start getting cooler until Halloween. The leaves are changing color and falling at Christmas. Go figure! But my front porch is ready! No matter the weather!

I don’t think I have ever shown my front porch on the blog before, so let me introduce you! It’s very small and compact, but perfect for decorating.

Fall Porch 2015

I first added my wicker chair and covered the chair cushion with a piece of muslin. Then I found a brightly colored striped pillow in my ‘collection’ with the perfect fall colors.

I placed the matching wicker table next to it and then added lots of fall decorations! I filled the white wooden basket with burlap, pumpkins, and filler flowers. I also added a clipboard with a fall printable. I have a toilet paper pumpkin that one of the girls made many years ago, a white pumpkin Lauren carved with 4-H on it from her time in 4-H, a solar light, some driftwood, and a ruler pumpkin.

I brought out one of my crates and placed a wooden tool box, also made by Lauren in 4-H, and filled it with more burlap, candle holders, and sweater acorns.

Aren’t these acorns adorable? I found the instructions¬†here.

Leaning against the crate is my oval chalkboard with the word ‘Thankful.’

I have another tall chalkboard, from this project, leaning in the corner with the word ‘Fall’ printed on it. This is my last piece of board from that puppet theater.

I have a faux chrysanthemum near the door. Faux because of our high temps and high drought. This is just going to have to do for now!

My last item is the wreath on the door. Lots of fall leaves and a big turquoise ‘S’ in the middle. Got to have my turquoise!

Did you spot the little guy nestled in the bottom? He’s a cutie!

Friday’s Corner News-August 14, 2015

Happy Friday everyone! Hope everyone had a great week ! We are getting away this weekend for one last camping trip before all the school activities take over.

I have been busy with painting projects around the house. This summer I have painted the hallway, Haley’s room, and the living/dining room. I still have a couple of larger projects to do in these rooms, but then hopefully I can reveal them. Here is the color of the shelves for the living room.

Remember I had these pieces of chalkboard from my preschool?  I used one in my bathroom, and now I painted the other to use in my classroom. I made it a Quote Board. Have you heard the funny things 4 year old say?!

I did a little redecorating on my back patio. I added a few late summer flowers and decorations.

I also have these wonderful paw-prints that I did with my pets. They actually did pretty well with having their paw put in ink and on the paper. Well I have been wanting to frame them with a picture of each dog. I finally found 4 frames that were all the same at the thrift store, and they were half off! Perfect! I will show you the finished product when I am done with all of them.pawprint collage

Have a wonderful weekend and see you next week!

A New Dresser…Finally!

So…do you remember a few weeks ago that I posted about a dresser that I was going to be posting soon? ¬†Yeah…life got in the way and it didn’t exactly happen soon.

But I finally got it finished!

If you haven’t read the before post, please click here.

Before and After

before and after

I love the new look on this dresser. ¬†Before it was a weird eggshell whitish yellow, a drawer was broken, and there was peeling paint all over. ¬†Now, it looks like it could fit anywhere in someone’s house.

But it wasn’t all easy.

The first problem I ran into was the broken drawer. ¬†With the help of my dad, we were able to get that fixed. ¬†He also helped me fix the bottoms of the drawers so they wouldn’t fall apart.

When I was painting the dresser, I also ran into the problem that the paint didn’t cover the peeling paint on the top of the dresser. ¬†When I was using the spray paint, it was two different tones because the wood would just soak up the paint. ¬†So, I had to use a can of black paint instead of spray paint. ¬†Thankfully, that worked and made the top of the dresser look nice.

My final problem came when I tried to put the new knobs on.  The space between the screws was wider than the original knobs, so I had to remeasure to make new holes.  After filling in the original holes and drilling in new holes, I was finally able to put the new knobs on.  Yeah!

The Drawers

The Drawers

The featured part of this dresser is the drawers. ¬†They are all chalkboard, so you can write what you have in each drawer (examples: socks, pants, checkbook, undisclosed amounts of money…too much?), or write numbers like I did. ¬†Numbers are really in right now, so that is why I picked them.

Another feature this that every pull for the drawers is different. ¬†I bought all five of them at Junk Days and they all worked perfectly. ¬†It’s a great way to make the drawers unique.

I love how this dresser turned out.  It has a very modern feel and is something that I can see myself putting in my house when I have my own one day.  Now, if only I can figure out what to do with it in the meantime.:)
