Old Cigar Box to Earring Storage

Good morning! I hope you are all doing well. It is 100+ and hot here right now! Woowee! August tends to  be the hottest time of year and this year did not disappoint! I haven’t been able to get much done outside, but I have done a few inside projects.

I have to tell you, this is not one of my favorite projects. I mean it looks okay, and I took pictures of cutting and gluing the paper, but now I can’t find them. Bum,bum, bum.  The box was an old cardboard cigar box I have had for years, and I finally decided to do something with it. I went through my scrapbook paper and found some pieces that went together. I cut pieces that fit each side and glued them on. It’s pretty easy and I’m sure most of you have done something like this before. The biggest problem, came with using the ribbon as a hinge. Actually with the Gorilla Glue.

The glue totally leaked through!! That might be okay on the inside of the box, but not on the outside. I ended up having to peel off the ribbon on the outside and and finding paper to use instead.

What a mess…

This whole project started because I needed some kind of storage for my hoop earrings. I have been buying more hoops lately, but didn’t have a good place to keep them where they would be separated and easy to find.

I found these little craft storage boxes at the Dollar Tree. They fit in the box, plus they were low enough that I could stack them on top of each other. I removed the lid and cut out a couple of the walls for the bigger earrings.

Here is a picture of the paper I used instead of the ribbon.

And the finished project!

So much better! I have a couple of really large hoops, so I can place those in the little side area next to the organizers.

Yay! Now my dresser looks so much better! Plus I can find the hoops I am looking for and they won’t be all tangled up with the others.

Well, I’m not sure I should say I hope you enjoyed this, :), but I’m glad you stopped by!

Happy New Year!

Happy-New-Year-2020-blue-HD-Wallpaper-for-laptop-and-tablet-Free-Download-1920x1200-915x515

Happy New Year everyone!  It’s 2020!!

I hope you had a great New Year’s Eve, whether you partied or stayed home for a nice quiet evening. When the kids were younger, we would always have other families over and eat pizza and play games. We always had a great time with lots of good memories! But now, it’s just us. So a quiet evening is perfect for us now.

The day before Thanksgiving, I had an accident at work and shattered my index finger on my right hand. So now I am waiting to have surgery. That means I won’t be able to blog for a little while. Lauren will still be here and maybe I can convince her to post a bit for me too. 🙂 Anyways, I just wanted you all to know where I will be! I can’t wait until I get the surgery over with and be back here with you all! I will try to keep you updated!

Since it’s the new year, I know a lot of us are looking for ways to get organized. I know I am! So I found a few ideas around the internet!

How I Organized My Tool Cabinet

Good morning! I hope you all had a fun and family filled Easter! It was such a beautiful day here. Perfect for hunting eggs! I was able to accomplish a few projects while I was off for spring break.

This locker cabinet was one of my projects. What a mess! I was constantly having to dig through all this to find the one tool or item I needed. There are small tools that I use in the house, a few painting supplies, batteries, and other miscellaneous items. I finally decided it was time to do something about it.

I found this divided box and knew it would work perfectly for all the small pieces I had in the locker. I started out putting the smaller items in the small squares. Items such as nails, screws, hooks and eyes fit perfectly in these compartments.

Once I finished with the smaller pieces, I had several larger items. I was able to take some of the dividers out to make larger spaces. I placed razor blades, zip ties and larger hooks in these compartments.

I also had a small clear plastic box that I filled with the larger tools like the hammer, screwdrivers, levels, wire cutters and sandpaper.

I also had a divided box for batteries. I have had this organizer for awhile and I don’t know why I didn’t think of it for the other items.

What a difference! It’s amazing how two little organizers could make this much of a difference! It’s so much easier to find what I need now. I have the batteries on the top shelf and hung up a few extra packs on the hook. I also have a few painting supplies and the staple gun in here.

I placed the divided box and the tool box on the bottom shelf.

Such a simple solution to a big messy problem! I’m so glad to have this one project done.

Cable Management for the Win!

Hello!  Can you believe today is February 1st?  Where has this year gone so far?  I swear yesterday it was New Years…but I guess not.

Speaking of New Years, how are everyone’s resolutions going?  Good…bad…have you given up already?  I hope not!  Keep going!  You can do it!

One of my New Years resolutions is to manage things better.  You know, things like time, schedule, money, and cables.  Ugh!  My cable management is terrible.  I just hang my phone charger and Fitbit charger from my lamp (which looks like an Eiffel Tower mind you), but my cats really like playing with them.  And, it probably isn’t good for the cables either.

But thanks to Blue Key World, this problem has been solved!

*This blog post has been sponsored by Blue Key World*

Blue Key World is a company that specializes in home and kitchen wear.  How cool is that?  They created these nifty little doo-dads that help you with keeping your cables organized.  But not only that, but they create some pretty sweet knifes for your cooking supplies.  Not impressed yet, just wait and see.

cables

They were kind enough to send both mom and I a pack of 6 cable organizers.  These organizers are tiny!  They aren’t very big so it’s perfect to hide behind a shelf or on the leg of a table to keep your cords in order.  What’s even better is they come with a sticky pad on the back.  Just peel off the sticker and BAM!  Stick it to whatever surface you need to!

sticker

Now I only used two, one for my phone charger and one for my Fitbit charger.  Just so that way they weren’t hanging on my Eiffel Tower lamp and falling willy nilly.  The hole that holds the cord is big enough for the cord, but small enough that your charger port won’t fall through.  And the matte texture of the organizer helps to hold the cords in place.  How cool is that!

bluekeyworld

Mom and I both tried them for a week to make sure that they worked.  We also gave my dad one for his phone charger, just to have an extra person try it.  Mom always complained about her phone charger falling out of her phone during the night and waking up to an almost dead phone.  But with Blue Key World’s cable organizer, she hasn’t had to worry about that at all.  Her phone has stayed plugged in all night long.  And my dad?  Not the same issue, but really enjoyed not having to try to find his fallen phone charger at night when he was ready to go to bed.

organizer

For me, I have one tiny complaint.  And honestly, it’s not even that big of a deal and it’s not entirely the fault of the cable organizer.  My phone charger has a matte finish on it, just like the organizer.  So my phone charger had a bit of a hard time sliding up and down through the small hole in the organizer.  But if the hole was any larger, my charger port would fall through meaning the organizer wasn’t doing it’s job.  But other than that, it’s great!  My cats aren’t always trying to play with my cables, they are more organized, and they aren’t just hanging around on my lamp all the time.

Overall, if you need a cable organizer, this is the way to go.  If you click here, this will take you to Blue Key World’s Amazon page where you can purchase one of your own.  I promise you won’t be disappointed if you purchase one!  Thanks for stopping by!
