Happy New Year everyone!  It’s 2020!!

I hope you had a great New Year’s Eve, whether you partied or stayed home for a nice quiet evening. When the kids were younger, we would always have other families over and eat pizza and play games. We always had a great time with lots of good memories! But now, it’s just us. So a quiet evening is perfect for us now.

The day before Thanksgiving, I had an accident at work and shattered my index finger on my right hand. So now I am waiting to have surgery. That means I won’t be able to blog for a little while. Lauren will still be here and maybe I can convince her to post a bit for me too. 🙂 Anyways, I just wanted you all to know where I will be! I can’t wait until I get the surgery over with and be back here with you all! I will try to keep you updated!

Since it’s the new year, I know a lot of us are looking for ways to get organized. I know I am! So I found a few ideas around the internet!

It’s A Valentine’s Tablescape

Hello!  I hope you are all ready because this blog post is going to be a fun one!  So hold onto your hats and hold on until the end!  I promise you won’t be disappointed.

*This blog post contains sponsored content from Oriental Trading Company*

So it’s becoming that time again for all of the love.  You know what I’m talking about.  Hearts in red and pink all over the stores shelves.  And not only in the stores, but also online as well.  And Oriental Trading is all about the holidays.

And after much deliberation on what to pick from their website, I finally decided on doing a tablescape.  So after doing a lot of shopping around and putting things in my cart and taking them out, I finally ordered my things and started my tablescape.

Valentine's Day Tablescape Full

And here it is!  I love how it turned out and love each piece that I picked out.  So lets see what I picked.

Valentine's Day Tablescape Center

The first thing is this cute candy jar.  It has a small chalkboard on the front so you can write what kind of candy is in it.  Or, you can draw a heart on it like I did.  But it fits quite a bit of candy in it, so go bananas!

Valentine's Day Tablescape Across

The next thing is the heart tree, if that’s what you want to call it.  It’s a tree in a small pot that you can bend and shape however you want to.  It’s only about 18 inches tall, so it won’t block your view of your loved one.

There’s also the rose garland in the middle of the table.  I added the pink puffball garland and the white puffball garland as well, just to add some stuff to the middle.

Valentine's Day Tablescape Diamonds

And these jewels?  Yep, bought them from Oriental.  I bought a pink, black, and clear pack so I had a variety to spread around the table.  Each color came in a pack of 25 diamonds, so you get a lot of bang for your buck.

Valentine's Day Tablescape Plates

The plates were also purchased from Oriental.  And the silver place mats!  Okay, the place mats were from mom from the last time we worked with Oriental, but they looked great with the rest of the tablescape.  I bought the small candy baking cups from the 99 Cent Store, but they looked so good with the plates.

Valentine's Day Tablescape Overtop

So this is what the table looks like from above!  It’s so cute!

Valentine's Day Tablescape Love

The last thing I got from Oriental was this pretty gold LOVE sign.  It sat so nicely on the cake plate in the background of the photos.  And I must say that I am very excited to put this on my gallery wall in my apartment.

Side note: out cat Kiara is extremely nosy and wants to be in the middle of EVERYTHING.

Valentine's Day Tablescape Kiara

And finally, we found some cute pet clothes for Valentine’s Day at the 99 Cent Store which we had to buy.  Repeat HAD TO.  So we had a little doggy (and kitty) photoshoot for the holiday!

Obviously, Kiara looks annoyed that I took her photo, but I love her all the better!  And Ezzy is on a different couch because she is our senior citizen and I didn’t want to move her.

So that was my fun with Oriental.  I love how the table turned out, but I love the animals as well.  Have a good Wednesday!

Christmas Gift Ideas for All Ages

We’re in November! Have you started Christmas shopping yet? There are only ? many more days of shopping! I’m not sure how many days, but I know I already have a few people shopped for. My family draws names for Christmas and this year we used a new online service called Drawnames.com. It’s been great! No more drawing out of a hat and getting your own name! You can even set it up to block certain people from getting another family member, like spouses getting spouses. Plus your lists go right on the site with links included. We will definitely be using this again.

After seeing what people are asking for and what seems to be popular, I decided to make a family gift guide.

*This is a sponsored posts. Any purchases made by you, send a little it back to us at no extra expense to you. Thank you!*

Little Girls

We have a couple of little girls, ages 3 and 5, in our family. So fun to shop for!  Here are some of the items on their wish list.

Fingerlings

My niece received this for her birthday. She wasn’t too sure about it, but all of us adult girls loved it! It’s so cute!

Baby monkeys love to grab on to things…. especially fingers!

Finger monkey responds to sound, motion & touch and will let you know when they like what you are doing!

Put them to sleep or make a loud noise and watch them get excited! hang them upside-down by the tail and watch them monkey-around

Swing them around for even more fun. Blow them kisses and they will kiss you back! collect them all!

Hatchables

My niece’s have these by the dozens! They love them! And they come in all different sizes.

Hatchimals Glittering Garden is the newest hatch batch straight out of Hatchtopia! Who’s inside? It’s a surprise! Each sparkling egg contains one of two interactive Hatchimals with twinkling wings and soft, shimmering fur. Love and care for yours inside the egg and its eyes will light up as it makes cute sounds, telling you how it’s feeling! Once you’ve played with the egg enough, you’ll see rainbow eyes – that means it’s time to hatch! Hatchimals can’t hatch on their own. Your touch encourages them to peck their way out of the egg! It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience! Now you get to raise your glittering Hatchimal through 3 stages, from baby to toddler, to kid. Your Hatchimal sings “Hatchy Birthday” each time it enters a new stage! Teach yours to walk, dance, play games and more! It will even repeat what you say in its own voice! Peppa Pig

Peppa is big in the preschool, grade school age kids! They love Peppa!

“Peppa Pig” follows the adventures of the titular, anthropomorphic animal along with her family and friends. Each of her friends is a different kind of animal — with a last name matching the type of animal each is. Although they are humanlike in many ways, the characters still display characteristics of their species — such as the Rabbit family being fixated with carrots.

DIY Dog Cross-Body Carrier

Hello! Welcome back to Home on the Corner! I missed Finds and Fashions yesterday, so today I am showing you a simple project for your special pet. I put dog in the title, but it could be for something else small like a cat or guinea pig or whatever other critter you might have!

Our dog Chica is 16, but she still likes to go places with us. The problem is she can’t walk very far. Lauren and I found this idea somewhere on the internet, but I don’t know where as it was several years ago. We were going on a long walk at the coast and knew Chica wouldn’t make it the whole way, but I also couldn’t carry her the whole time without some support. So we thought we would give this project a try and it was really easy.

We took a piece of fabric 26″ wide and 58 inches long. If you have a really small pet, you would want to go with a skinnier piece, but probably the same length.

dog-sling-carrier-fabric

I don’t know why these pictures are so blurry, but I am sure you will get the idea. Hem each side of your fabric. This will keep it from fraying when you wash it. After it is hemmed, fold it in half so it is a long skinny piece. I guess you would fold the width in half.

dog-sling-carrier-fabric-length

Then fold it again so the open ends are together. Fold the length in half. (This took a lot of thinking on my part to figure out how to explain it!! :))

dog-sling-carrier-fabric-folded

Now you are going to sew the open ends on the short end of the fabric together. When you are finished, you will have a long tube that is open along one long side.

dog-sling-carrier-sewing-seam

That’s it for the sewing! Now it is time to test it out. The carrier will go over one shoulder and under the other arm. The pouch opening should be on the top. Open it up and place the animal inside. This usually takes 2 people-1 to hold the carrier open and the other to place the pet inside. Munch had never been in one before, but she didn’t seem to mind at all! Her bottom fits right down into the pouch and she is able to sit comfortably. If your pet is in far enough, you don’t have to support them at all.

dog-sling-carrier-with-dog

This carrier really helps to keep the weight off your back and shoulders and also helps the animal feel secure. Munch never fidgeted or tried to get out. Chica was the same way, even the first time we used it.

dog-sling-carrier-back-view

We have used this many times over the last couple of years and it has definitely come in handy, especially with an older dog.

I would love to know if you have ever tried a carrier like this and what your experience was! Let me know in the comments!

UPCYCLE RETRO PET BED

I hope you all had a good week and weekend! My preschool had their graduation this past week which is always a lot of work but so exciting for the kids! Each class is unique (this one was very talkative!), but also special. They will be missed!

I had hoped to reveal our ‘Dressing up a Dresser’ post, but things didn’t quite go as planned. It still needs a little more work, plus we tried fitting in shopping for a car, changing around my bedroom (which I will post in a couple of weeks) and Lauren ending up being called into work. So today I am sharing a pet bed I made for my Chica before I was blogging. I don’t have too many pictures and they aren’t that great, but I love this little bed, so I wanted to share!

I started out with an old discarded tv stand. It was black and at one time it had doors. I picked out some retro fabric from Lauren’s stash and found some pink pom pom ball trim too. Chica is definately a girly girl, so we needed the pink and some pom poms!

The supplies

The supplies

I painted the tv stand white and added the little pom poms around the front opening. I sewed up the fabric as a pillow cover so I could take it off and wash it. I used an old pillow to stuff it with. I even sewed a long one to line the back with.

Cozy and comfy!

Cozy and comfy!

She does use it, usually when the weather is cold, but it is a nice special spot just for her (sometimes she has to share it with the cat!).

Night night!

Night night!

I love it when I can take something someone else is throwing away and make something new and useful out of it. Have you tried anything like this? I would love to have you share! Have a great week!

Sunshine and Blessings
