Pumpkins On the Front Porch

Good morning! Another week has begun! Are you having fall weather yet! We actually are! We don’t usually cool off until Halloween, so we are definitely blessed this year.  It actually makes decorating for fall enjoyable!

I was able to get a few things out on my front porch for the fall. A few pumpkins, my chalkboard dressed up for fall and some new pillow covers helped to get it ready.

I love changing out my chalkboard for each season. I use chalk markers to give it such vibrant color. The FALL banner was a free printable I found over at The Cottage Market.

I ordered a couple of new pillow covers from Amazon. I listed the links at the bottom of the page. I love the blue color on the pumpkins!

Of course, I have to have pumpkins! I have mostly orange, but I did manage find a beautiful blue/green heirloom pumpkin.

A cozy blanket keeps me warm on chilly mornings.

Our trees aren’t changing color just yet, so I threw in some faux leaves too.

I hope you have a great week!

Fall Decor Tips in the Family Room

Good morning! It’s October! Can you believe it? We have been having some beautiful weather this past week. I’ve been able to have the windows open and feel the breeze come through the house. It’s wonderful! My school visits the pumpkin patch this week and I hope to be able to pick up a few nice colored pumpkins while I am there.

I’ve continued my fall decorating through the house. You can see the the dining room here and the living room here. As you can see I changed from my green, black and white color scheme. I went a little more traditional in here. This room is separated from the living room, so I can change it up a little bit. I still used a lot of neutrals, but I added little touches of orange too. I have a few tips or ideas that I use when decorating for fall.

fall family room basket of pumpkins

  1. My first tip: Use what you have! Many of the pieces you already own can be used in your fall decor. Lanterns, baskets, burlap, cozy blankets. These items all add great texture and coziness to your rooms.

2. Texture: I mentioned this above. Woven baskets are a great way to add texture and to store some other fall decor in. Baskets can be found everywhere from Craft and Art stores, to Walmart, to thrift stores. Baskets can be painted or left natural to fit your decor. There are woven ones or metal ones and many others in between. Burlap and nubby blankets also add texture.

3. Natural Accents: Remember those baskets? Use them to store pinecones, pumpkins, acorns, ect. Fall is the perfect time to find things outdoors to use indoors. Even a tall basket full of sticks would be perfect. Of course, fall colored leaves add just the right touch to any room.

4. Pumpkins, of course! Pumpkins in all different sizes, colors, fabrics and materials. I have pumpkins made of fabric, styrofoam and rulers, and of course, real ones too. I found these little burlap ones at the Dollar Tree.  Real ones come in all sorts of colors now too. Pick from orange, white, blues and greens.

5.  I didn’t use any in my family room but free printables are a great way to add small touches of fall to any room. Many bloggers offer some great designs. They can be placed in frames or on clipboards and changed out for the seasons or just your mood!fall family room lantern with acornsfall family room pumpkins with lights

6. Lights and candles: extra lamps add soft lighting, especially with the days getting shorter. I placed a lighted fall leaf garland in the wire basket on the hearth with some burlap and pumpkins. Scented candles are wonderful and really add to the fall mood.

What else do you add to your rooms? I’m sure I missed some things. Let me know what you do for the fall season! I hope you all have a great week!

Fall Front Porch with Pumpkins

Good morning! I think fall has really arrived here in Central California! At least today!! Our weather will go up and down at least until Halloween. But for today, it is nice.

I was able to pull out some things to decorate my front porch. I decided to decorate with all things pumpkin! I got out all the different pumpkins I have-fabric, plastic, ceramic, wooden, big and little.

I made this pumpkin window box last year at a Home Depot event. I filled it with a turquoise painted pumpkin, a few small faux pumpkins and some fall leaves.

The big twig pumpkin is my favorite! The orange pumpkin is just fleece covering a roll of toilet paper. One of my girls made this years ago. I made the sweater acorns last year and the ‘Gather’ sign.

A few more pumpkins with a bright striped pillow (I used the same one last year! :))

I draped a cozy blanket over the chair for those chilly mornings or evenings. Another painted pumpkin, a glittery one and some leaves look festive.

We have a huge oak tree in our backyard and it drops lots of acorns in the fall. I glued them onto a piece of twine and draped them across this old door and window.

Henrietta , my hedgehog, made an appearance too!

I hope you all have a wonderful fall day!!

Super Cute No Carve Pumpkins

Hello everyone and welcome to another fabulous blog post.  I loved working on this post and I hope that you enjoy it as much as I do!

So I was toodaling around the intranet (also known as the internet for those who don’t understand young adult lingo lol) and came across this wonderful blog post on Simple as That.  Okay, so my mom found it for me, but it is still adorable!  Rebecca made these cute no carve pumpkins, so I wanted to make my own!  Check out her blog post by clicking on the picture below!

So here on Home on the Corner, I decided to try to make the fox and the owl.  Neither my mom or I are real big into raccoons, but he is still cute none the less.

Here are the supplies I used for these pumpkins.

pumpkin-supplies

2 Fake Pumpkins-I bought both of mine from Michaels.  Also, the turquoise one came that way.

1 Hot Glue Gun

1 Sharpie

1 Pair of Scissors

Lots of Felt!

Also, I have a pencil in the picture, but didn’t end up using it.

So I started with the owl.  I started with measuring my pink felt to see how big of a wing I wanted.  I folded the felt in half and drew what I wanted my wing to look like and cut it out.

Next I took the beige color and drew what I wanted for a belly.  I drew a half circle since the bottom of that piece wouldn’t be seen.

tummy-shape

I then went for the nose.  I just cut a small triangle out of orange felt to make a nice small beak.

beak-shape

The final part was the eyes.  Unfortunately, I was so excited to get them done that I didn’t take a picture…sorry.  But, I took white felt and used the bottom of a candle to make big bug eyes.  I then used my sharpie to draw little pupils in the eyes.

Then I moved onto the fox.  I used the white felt to draw the face.  I wanted her to have a bit of a mask, so I made a slit down the middle to symbolize the snout.  From there, I went to draw on two little eyes and a nose.

I then took the beige fabric to make another tummy.  I did the same half circle shape for her little tummy.

Finally, I took some orange felt and leftover white to make the ears.  I wanted them to be a bit big, so I over drew them and trimmed them where I needed.

The final step for both of these pumpkins was to hot glue everything on!  This was by far the most exciting  because I wanted to see the finished product!

And here you go!  The final look of my owl and my fox!

finished-fox-and-owl

I think that they are absolutely adorable!  I love how they turned out and can’t wait to find where I want to use them as decoration.  I know I didn’t put a tail on the fox, but I ran out of orange and white felt and didn’t have any orange paper to make a tail.  I’m sorry…I failed at making a fox!

But in all seriousness.  They are super cute and super easy to make.  I love how they turned out and I hope you found this tutorial easy to follow!

Living Room and Dining Room Fall Tour

Hooray! Today is my first Fall Home Tour! I’m really excited to be able to show you around. My house is very small, but I took a ton of pictures, so grab something yummy and have fun!

The first stop is right inside the front door. I don’t have an entry way, so just come on in! 2015 Home Tour Fall Living Room

I did set out a couple mugs and a pitcher, just in case you decide to stay awhile.

I finally painted the walls this summer! It’s always feel so fresh and clean afterwards. But I didn’t have anything hanging on the walls, until now. I put this up for the pictures, but I will be painting the frame with some chalk paint very soon.

This is my chair. I love this chair! It is called a chair and a half and it was the perfect size for my girls and I to sit and read books together when they were little. Now it’s the perfect size for my dogs and I to snuggle together!

I added some fall touches to the corner table. I still have some of my beachy decor, but a pumpkin and acorn bring a little more autumn feel.

I really would like to replace this table. I sort of have something in the works, but it just isn’t coming together the way I want, so this is it for now.

This little table is on the wall that leads into the dining room. The living room and dining room are basically one room. I have another plan for this wall that I am working on. It will be here soon. I am soooo excited! It is something I have wanted for a very long time!

I really love the built-in hutch, but it is really dark. All the trim in my house used to be this color. A couple of years ago, Haley helped me paint all the trim in the living room and dining room, but we ran out of energy to paint the hutch. Maybe some day!

This corner is one of my favorite little places. I love the old ladder the blankets are on, the wagon, which was mine growing up, the lanterns, the baby scale, everything!

I really like how my tablescape turned out this year. Each year is a little different. I will be posting more about the table in the next post.

Here is where I do my blogging. Boy, is this spot hard to keep clean! I always have so many papers around and notes and such. I added a few things to help keep it organized.

I painted these shelves this summer too. I first painted them a darker grey and then dry brushed lighter grey over the top. New brackets were added too. I really like the neutral look of these and how it looks in the room. I added many of my favorite things to these shelves.
