Valley Animal Haven Animal Shelter Volunteer Appreciation

Ahhh! A day off from school here is in the U.S.! Teachers always treasure these days! So do the kids!

My preschoolers still talk about the day ‘the other Miss Pam’, from Valley Animal Haven Shelter came to school and brought a dog and cat to visit. They loved being able to donate food and other items to the shelter. A couple of weeks ago, Pam, the director and our friend, had a Volunteer Appreciation Open House, so of course, our whole family was there!

I took care of the decorating, since that’s what I love to do! I drew the design on the chalkboard above and made the banner below from dog scrapbook paper. Lauren and I had gone to the 99 cent store for tablecloths and found these awesome pawprint balloons!

Remember the burlap pieces we stamped with pawprints? Here they are decorating the food tables. This is the ‘sweets’ table.

Yummy! The cookies on the bottom are some of my favorite!

There were also chips and dips, and fruit and veggie trays.

The sign-in table was full of paw-prints!

Aren’t these beautiful! Love all these bright colors on a dreary day! These were given to some of the volunteers who had donated more than 300 hours of time in the past year!

Each volunteer also received one of these special pins with a wonderful thank you!

There was also a drawing for door prizes. Haley won the sign ‘You Had Me At Woof” and Steve won the ornament.

Here is one cutie, Hannah, to say hello and thank you! She even dressed up for the occasion!

Here is the whole group. There are many more volunteers out there too, but these are the ones who came for this special occasion. Pam is the 6th one from the left in the royal blue shirt.

This was an incredible year for Valley Animal Haven. There were so many special people and businesses who gave time and donations to give the shelter a great first year. There were portable buildings, kennels, food, pet supplies, a trailer and many more items donated. There were several grants awarded to the shelter and even a money award for a contest that was entered. The most important part was the adoptions and saving the animals. There were 385 cats and dogs (and 2 rabbits) placed in ‘fur’ever homes in 2015! It is so amazing and such a wonderful thing Pam and all the volunteers are doing for animals! We are so blessed as a family to be part of such a great and amazing organization.

Vintage Armoire

Vintage Armoire

Hey everyone! I am so excited about this post today! A few weeks ago, we were invited by the online company Chairish and asked to pick one of the armoires and create a style board making it into a storage piece for whatever we wanted-toys, crafts, ect. Chairish is an exclusive curator approved, online marketplace for vintage furniture. If you have time, please go and take a look at some of their pieces. They are gorgeous!”

Lauren and I had fun looking at all the different designs they had. What a selection! But we finally narrowed it down to this American Drew White Wood Ornate Armoire.  We thought this could be used in any room. We decided to use it as a vanity and storage for make-up, jewelry, scarves and other accessories.

Wouldn’t this look amazing!

Since we are using this for a makeup vanity, we wanted to put a mirror in the back to cover up the hole. I gave Lauren a few choices from Joss and Main, and this is the one she picked. Isn’t it a beauty?

We also added a chair because you have to sit down when you are doing your make up right?  We found this really pretty white and cherry chair from Joss and Main.  Isn’t it cute!

Now on to the jewelry. We wanted to be able to see what we had, but be able to have it organized and pretty. We choose a few different things. We picked an over the door organizer for the longer items and a drawer organizer for earrings.
We loved this metal tiered organizer for all the nail polish and lipsticks. It even holds emery boards.

We also spotted these baskets at Bed, Bath and Beyond and thought they could be used for all sorts of organizing, plus they look pretty.

This organizer from Joss and Main would be perfect for storing all those pretty scarves you have in your collection.  It could also be used for socks, belts or other small items.

We also found some different beauty items to round out the collection. These all come from Ulta.
Only at ULTA! Lorac Nude Necessities Eye Shadow Palette is a limited edition sleek & sexy, metallized eye shadow palette that contains 12 silky, nude-toned eye shadows.  So what do you think? What would you use an armoire for? I would love to have one someday, but I am not sure I could decide how to use it!

FABULOUS FINDS & FASHIONS

Hi! I’m here today with some of my thrifty Goodwill finds. Sometimes, I actually find a bargain or two. Our Goodwill has some pretty wonky prices out there- sometimes, good, sometimes bad. Here is a good example. I had seen 2 of these Nate Berkus gold and white bowls, but they were priced individually at $3.99. I really didn’t want to pay that much, plus there were only 2.

I went back a couple of weeks later and there was a stack of 4 all being sold together. The price? $6.99 for 4. Um…something isn’t quite right there. 2 for $7.98 or 4 for $6.99? Yeah, I find that a lot.

My next find was even better! My daughter Haley is a huge Pirates of the Caribbean fan. Well, I’m not sure if it’s the movie or Johnny Depp.:) This book was sitting way on the top of the shelf. It was put out by Disney as a hardcover coffee table book and is priced at $50.00. The Goodwill price? $2.99! I can handle that!

The pictures are amazing! It shows sketches done by Disney artists, that depict scenes from the movies. There are also lots of storyboards. It is so cool to looks through. Here is a sketch of one of the ships.

Here is the artist rendition of Captain Jack Sparrow. I thing Johnny Depp decided on his own rendition!!!

My last bargain is a succulent wreath. I had read another blog where someone made one and she stated that you need about 25 succulent plants for the wreath. Well, even if I bought the plastic ones from the 99 Cent Store, it would cost me $25 just for the plants. This wreath was marked at $13.99, and it still had the Target tags on it. I figured that was a pretty good deal. I took it to the register and the cashier took 70% off because he said it was a Christmas item! What…! I told Lauren to grab the other one too and I got them each for $4.19! Thank you cashier!

I’m excited to be able to put this up for summer! Thanks for coming by today!

TASSEL KEYCHAIN AND NECKLACES

tassel necklace title

Have you made tassels before? I remember making these as a kid, and they are still cool now! I wrapped embroidery thread around a piece of cardboard that was the length I wanted. Keeping the string together, but pulling it off the cardboard, I opened up the o-ring and wrapped it through the thread at the top. I closed the o-ring and then I tied another piece of thread around the top, just under the o-ring. Trim the bottom of the thread until it is even. I will get up pictures as soon as I can.  Now you get to add the fun stuff!

Here are some of the pieces I gathered from around the house plus I bought a few from Hobby Lobby. I have kept a pitcher, since the girls were small, with all little trinkets that were broken or came off of other jewelry or toys.

I took an o-ring and stretched it a little with the pliers so I could add some items to it. The first one I did for Lauren. I added a pink heart, a white piece from an earring, a key and her initial.

I love the kind of old-fashioned look of the ‘L.’ This one I added to a chain for a necklace.

The next one is also a necklace. I found this piece with the words ‘Be Strong and Courageous’ and knew I wanted to add it. I added another piece from an earring and some chain and beads from a broken necklace. (sorry for the blurry picture!)

Lastly I did a key-chain. I especially love the colors of this one. The thread has some shine to it and is so pretty. I had a little sparkly Scottie Dog from an old necklace and a charm with clocks on it. I added some turquoise pony beads too.

There are so many different ways to make these! I especially like that you can personalize them. Thanks for coming by today!
