Corner News-July 30, 2016

Hello everyone!  And welcome to another edition of the corner news.  I hope that you are getting ready to enjoy your weekend and that you have fun things planned for your Saturday and Sunday.

First things first: I found this picture when going through my phone.  Last weekend mom, Haley, and I went to look at model homes for fun.  And in one of the homes, there was this really cool old fashion camera.  It took everything in me to not take it from the house and add it to my decoration collection…but I used self control and left it there like I was supposed to.

Next thing.  When mom came over for shopping, she hung up these fabric banners that she had made for me a few weeks ago.  They are pink based fabrics and and there are really cute.  I just…never hung them up.  So, she did and hung them above my closet doors and one of my windows.

They are super cute and add a lot of style to my room!  Thanks mom for hanging them up for me even though I could’ve done it myself………

Thanks for stopping by!

Corner News-I AM ADDICTED!

So, unless you have to be living under a rock for the past week, many of you have heard of the new app called Pokemon Go.

IMG_2127

Now, I will start off by saying that I didn’t understand why people liked the app so much.  I was never one who got into Pokemon when I was younger, so I didn’t really feel the need to download the app.

And honestly, I was making  a little bit of fun of my friends who had downloaded the app.  I thought it was a silly concept for people to have to leave their houses to go and collect Pokemon.  Wouldn’t it be easier to find Pokemon on a virtual map and not leave my house?

Unfortunately, my coworker and really good friend Elise told me to download the game and try it because a bunch of coworkers were going to a local park to hunt for Pokemon.  And since I love my coworkers I decided to try it out.

And now I regret it because I AM ADDICTED.

Yes, that’s right.  I went through 6 levels in 3 hours with my coworkers.  And, because you have to walk certain distances to hatch the eggs, I took a 30 minute walk to try to hatch 2 eggs.  Yeah…

Now, my two highest Pokemon are my Arbok and my Growlithe.  And my coworkers and I have planned to go Pokemon hunting once a week.  Addicted?  Probably.  How long will it last?  I don’t know.  But I know that for now, everyone loves it and I might as well join the trend.

Side Note: I originally typed up this blog on Wednesday the 13th.  Since then, I went on another Pokemon hunt with my coworkers and found just a few more Pokemon.

These are my current highest Pokemon.

And…I hatched two Magikarps in my eggs.  They are some of the hardest Pokemon to find and you need a lot of them to level up one.  And I hatched two.  My coworker Dean was not happy.

Corner News-Yard Sale Tips and Tricks-July 9, 2016

Happy Saturday! I can’t believe another week of summer has passed! It is going by too fast!! We haven’t even had a chance to go anywhere yet! Hopefully we will get up to the lake and to the beach very soon!

This past week my mom and I held our annual yard sale. How do we get so much stuff in a year?! It’s so crazy! Of course, we do get some things from other people too, but I know most if it was from my house. I have going through stuff like crazy and just getting rid of it. Anyways, we spent Tuesday and Wednesday unpacking and setting everything up. Thursday I had an appt. and we opened up on Friday at 7:00 am. Bright and early with customers waiting! These pictures just show a little bit. We had 8 tables (!) plus stuff out on the lawn.

Here are a few tips for holding a yard sale.

  • It gets very hot here, so we start early. People like to come early and then get on with the rest of their day.
  • Try to price as much as you can. We use masking tape because we never find that the stickers stick very well in our hot weather.
  • Price to sell! I know things cost a lot in the store, but this is a yard sale.  Many things can also be purchased at the dollar stores. We just want to sell it and get a little bit of cash.  If I go to yard sales and I hear high prices, I usually walk away.

  • Use tape, rubber-bands, boxes or safety pins to keep groups together.
  • We hold our sale for two days, so the first day we are usually a little higher. The second day, anything goes! Make us a deal!
  • We advertise on Craigslist and put out signs on the corners. We aren’t allowed to attach signs to the telephone poles, so we take an empty box, attach signs and put a brick in the box so it doesn’t blow out into the road.

  • Try to have as much up on tables or hanging as possible. I don’t like it when I have to bend or squat down to go through clothes, so we use lots of table and a hanging rack. We do have larger items on the lawn, but not stuff you have to spend a lot of time looking through.
  • We use fanny packs and purses to keep our money in. This way we can wander around helping customers or cleaning up tables and take money at the same time.

Even though setting up for the yard sale is a lot of work, I enjoy the time I get to spend with my mom and dad and my girls. We have lots of good memories from these days. I hope these tips help you out at your next yard sale!! It can be a great way to clean out your home and make a little extra money!!

Corner News-Apartment Moving Part 1

Well world, it is coming to that time where I have to move…unfortunately.  I have thoroughly enjoyed living in the apartment that I will be leaving, but it is time for a new chapter and new things will be happening.  I am excited, and nervous, but it will all be good!

So, I had started packing last week when I got my first set of boxes.  But, I got really tired of packing and stopped for a while.  And then I signed my lease and realized that I need to finish packing everything.

My friend Bekah helped me by coming over for a while and helping me pack.  It was so nice to get a lot of stuff done while she was helping me.  I got almost everything out of my closet and it is all ready to go into the new place.  Yeah!

And this is what my closet currently looks like.

Moving 2

Yeah…I have this problem with not putting hangers back on the hanger holder thingies that I have.  So, they just lay on the floor and make it harder for me to walk through to get clothes.  Don’t ask…

And now with everything out of my closet, this is what my hallway looks like.

Moving 3

Yep…it’s almost impossible to walk through my hallway.  And I have more stuff around the corner.

Moving 4

Thankfully, I will be moving some of my stuff in today since I finally got my key!  Hooray!  So, I still have a lot of stuff to go, but I am slowly making progress.  And I will get through it all, sooner or later.  But for the most part, I am getting through everything that I need to get through to move into my new place.  Hooray!

Corner News- June 25, 2016

How is your summer so far? Are you crazy busy or crazy lazy? It’s so nice to have some time to just work on projects at a more leisurely pace and still have time to just relax.

I worked on sprucing up a couple of spaces this week, my mantel and my front porch. I added a fabric banner, which I will show you how I made next week, a summer sign and seashells. Love the bright blue and green! Oh, and my flag, of course!

I added more fabric triangles to the front porch and put a new quote on the chalkboard. I also added a few more summery items, like the birdhouse and lantern.
