Old Cigar Box to Earring Storage

Good morning! I hope you are all doing well. It is 100+ and hot here right now! Woowee! August tends to be the hottest time of year and this year did not disappoint! I haven’t been able to get much done outside, but I have done a few inside projects.

I have to tell you, this is not one of my favorite projects. I mean it looks okay, and I took pictures of cutting and gluing the paper, but now I can’t find them. Bum,bum,bum. The box was an old cardboard cigar box I have had for years, and I finally decided to do something with it. I went through my scrapbook paper and found some pieces that went together. I cut pieces that fit each side and glued them on. It’s pretty easy and I’m sure most of you have done something like this before. The biggest problem, came with using the ribbon as a hinge. Actually with the Gorilla Glue.

The glue totally leaked through!! That might be okay on the inside of the box, but not on the outside. I ended up having to peel off the ribbon on the outside and and finding paper to use instead.

This whole project started because I needed some kind of storage for my hoop earrings. I have been buying more hoops lately, but didn’t have a good place to keep them where they would be separated and easy to find.

I found these little craft storage boxes at the Dollar Tree. They fit in the box, plus they were low enough that I could stack them on top of each other. I removed the lid and cut out a couple of the walls for the bigger earrings.

So much better! I have a couple of really large hoops, so I can place those in the little side area next to the organizers.

Yay! Now my dresser looks so much better! Plus I can find the hoops I am looking for and they won’t be all tangled up with the others.

Happy New Year everyone! It’s 2020!!

I hope you had a great New Year’s Eve, whether you partied or stayed home for a nice quiet evening. When the kids were younger, we would always have other families over and eat pizza and play games. We always had a great time with lots of good memories! But now, it’s just us. So a quiet evening is perfect for us now.

The day before Thanksgiving, I had an accident at work and shattered my index finger on my right hand. So now I am waiting to have surgery. That means I won’t be able to blog for a little while. Lauren will still be here and maybe I can convince her to post a bit for me too. 🙂 Anyways, I just wanted you all to know where I will be! I can’t wait until I get the surgery over with and be back here with you all! I will try to keep you updated!

Since it’s the new year, I know a lot of us are looking for ways to get organized. I know I am! So I found a few ideas around the internet!

I think this idea is brilliant for an attic! We have a small attic and I would love to get all the boxes set up like this! There are even printable storage labels.

2. I wish my garage looked like this! I do have most of my stuff on shelves and in totes, but I really like the idea of clear totes so you can see what’s inside. Also the large labels are great! Head over to Instagram to see how she did it!

3. My cabinet under the sink isn’t this full, but we are thinking of putting in an under the sink pull-out trash can, so I may need to do some reorganizing. Head over to by lauren m to see what she used to get organized.

5. This is a great way to store wrapping paper! Just hang it behind a door or in a closet! You could use the extra slots for storing tissue paper, bows, scissors, tape and other supplies. I’m not sure of the original source for this one, but there are other great ideas on Buzzfeed.

7. This is brilliant! Why didn’t I think of this! It’s so much easier to get games or other boxed items out of this than when they are in a big and tall pile! Visit here for more ideas.

9. How are your craft supplies looking? Sometimes, mine are in pretty good shape. Sometimes…not so much. Again, clear containers help to see what you already have and what you need to stock up on.

Fun Ideas To Do With Seashells

Good morning! Do you collect seashells like I do? Last week I showed you my new storage box I made for my collection.

I also made a seashell mobile to hang in my yard.

I’ve used them quite a bit in my decorating too!

I even made a seashell garland!

So what else can you make? I found some more ideas around the internet.

Shells can help keep your houseplants happy. By placing seashells on top of the soil, they helps to keep the moisture in the flower pot.

Of course, you can also decorate your flower pot.

Deep shells are perfect for planting succulents in. These are the cutest!

How about using a large open shell to hold your little items next to your bed? I love the gold on these!

This is so simple, I don’t know why I haven’t thought of it! A nightlight!

I made a garland, but not a wind-chime. this is so pretty!
